If you decide to do Hardmode, try defeating King Slime to get a Solidifier. You can craft Gel Blocks there, and combine them with ice to make a special block with infinitely low traction, meaning that if you start moving on a platform made of them, you can slide indefinitely in that direction until you hit a wall or hook onto something.

A tip with the door fling - it works any time the door opens. Pressure plates and player sensors can be used to make them automatically open

fun fact: the door/hook boost is infinitely better on any non-PC platform as auto open/close is a thing. hook the door, and as you get close, the door opens automatically (without any mechanical knowhow or sensors), then closes as you pass through, meaning no fear of manually resetting the contraption, either. (until an NPC gets involved and changes the default state of the door to open thanks to shenanigans.)

PC does have auto open, it's just that it requires holding into the direction of the door to do, hence why it wasn't happening. All currently updated versions of Terraria are practically the same now other than the controls.

I remember when I played on the old mobile version, hooking onto a door was really fun because they auto opened when you were near them. Not sure if that still holds true anymore, though.

Kinda. With smart cursor, doors open and close automatically when you move through while holding the appropriate direction. This does function along with sliding but I didn't bring it up cause; movement keys ya know
