Now, as I am sure you know, terraria has an actual story around the moonlord. But for anyone else, here’s what I know of it. Moonlord is the brother of cuthulu. After the dryads ripped cuthulu apart, he went to hide on the moon to recover. Given the fact that he is the *moon*lord, cuthulu could have been in his care. The bones of cuthulu went on to posses the old man, who threw the mechanic into the dungeon to make the mechs. Now, for the moonlord himself, logically he would want to conquer the world by him. So locks were placed on the world. The hint of the pillars being locks were given by one of the devs. And of course the celestial creatures are to protect these. In the same hint of the pillars, the dev also said something along the lines of “why do you think these locks would appear after interrupting a ritual?” This implies the cultists are keeping the moonlord at bay.

Corites can move through blocks, because blocks are apparently a suggestion to Re-logic, crawltipedes punish you for using your wings or flying mounts effectively pushing you back to the very start of the game to when the only mobility option you had was jumping, and Sylenians deflect your projectiles back at you, effectively punishing you for pressing M1.
