Much appreciated. I stopped playing terraria after completing it in 2 weeks and getting bored of senseless moonlord farming and suddenly I missed out on this major 1.4 update. I really wanted to take a look at the added content and this event was actually hard to find. Lots of hours-long guide and spawn tutorial videos when I just want to see what happens. Thanks. :)

It was actually added in 1.3.5 i think? And you can always try Expert and Master mode and every other classes if you're bored. Wait, don't tell me you're completed all 4 classes in Master mode in two weeks? (Thats just a guess, people can be crazy)

Maybe making the ground asphalt would help collecting the mana and placing the towers.

It does, but you have 30 seconds between each round anyways to do it. Unless you are killing stragglers for a significant amount of time you should be fine without it, I used asphalt but haven't seen too much help from it. Sunflowers would be nice for both speed and lowering spawnrates though.

It's ridiculously hard on Master Mode and pre Lunar gear, tried to do this with full beetle armor and Influx Waver and a shit load of fire sentries but it's impossible, Betsy just kills me with 5 dashes and her fire breath

Same, I got Betsy's HP around 1/3 using full bettle, fullwarding equip, full shield build, with brain cutuhlu, star necklace terra blade and in full buff(all potion buff available) and it's always this little goblins that destroy shard before i even beat Betsy so frustrating.

I can't even beat wave 3 (I'm on classic mode with terra blade that has a legendary modifier and beetle armor) because the stupid purple lizards keep attacking the crystal

as it turns out, it's possible to kill betsy with this setup with on a tanky build (as tanky as you can be with shinobi armor) and an influx waver, it just takes a LOT longer and you need to get your aggro on her a LOT so anyway i'm gonna do frost moon anyway because I WANT THAT FLYING DRAGON

This doesn’t work for me for some reason. The enemies keep getting through the blocks protecting the crystal and breaking it on wave 7. Betsy also kills me in around 5 hits and my weapons don’t do enough damage. Even endgame gear isn’t enough. I’ve done this more than 6 times now and still can’t defeat Betsy. I just want her weapons so I have more weapons to use or choose from. I might have to try it on normal mode.

I can answer one of these questions. The thing they summon is a frost hydra summon/turret.ypu get it by farming for a frost key in the snow biome and opening the frost chest in the dungeon. You have to kill plantera before getting it or else it won't work

The blocks are gemspark blocks, they don't do anything special, they're just high contrast. If you pause the video at 0:15 you can see their loadout. Weapons: Influx Waver, North Pole, Lightning Aura Staff, Staff of the Frost Hydra. (Shoutouts to the Rod of Discord, not a weapon just amazing utility) Armor: Shinobi Infiltrator set. Accessories: Celestial Shell, Destroyer Emblem, Eye of the Golem, Mechanical Glove (On the Desktop version the Fire Gauntlet is strictly better, but on every other platform the Mechanical Glove is better in stats, it just doesn't set things on fire which is not a big deal), Terraspark Boots, Fairy Wings (There are plenty of better ones at this stage but it doesn't really matter that much), Tabi (Master Ninja Gear is also just better and will make this easier to replicate with the 10% dodge chance). You can also see all the potions: Rage, Wrath, Swiftness, Summoning, Ale, Flask of Ichor, Major Well Fed. On top of those, Bewitched and Sharpened from the Bewitching Table and Sharpening Station.

@@renuverma4312 doesn’t look like Beetle Armor for me. That I have… and would recognize from the tiny little pixel pictures in the inventory that I’m sure all of you can just recognize instantly without a trip to the wiki and trying to guess wether that thing that looks like a blue Ax in his fourth slot was a mace/flail/summon weapon or indeed just an ax. Also without mouseover item descriptions I don’t think you can tell from a glance if he’s using +4 melee, +4 defense, +4 movement… The answers aren’t all there in the video. And there’s 556 weapons in Terraria without factoring in tools… accessories… armor… I’m not gonna sift through the wiki trying to match pixels. I don’t think it’s a Newb thing to not have every page of the wiki memorized and know every item and stats at a glance.

I finally killed betsy as a melee on post-golem master mode and I used terrablade and ballista staff for crowd control and starlight for betsy. My armor was beetle helmet, valhalla knight's breastplate and beetle leggings. Also I got flying dragon first try lol the only reason I did this event

had my problems to defeat old man`s army but then the merchant sold me a bow with bouncing projectiles. so i just placed a 5 block tall wall behind my portals and just slaughered every wave no matter what :D Placing the sentrys near the portals instead of placing them around my crystal helped too.

Did this with a Journey Mode character in Expert Mode. My gear and accessories - Legendary Influx Waver, Ruthless Xeno Staff, Godly Possessed Hatchet (didn't really come into play until Betsy spawned), Ruthless Ballista Staff, Mythical Flameburst Staff, Ruthless Staff of the Frost Hydra, Valhalla Knight Armor (full set), Steampunk Wings, Ankh Shield, Terraspark Boots, Celestial Shell, Hero Shield and Warrior Emblem (all reforged to Warding), along with the usual potions I carry for events, plus Obsidian Skin. The enemies were kept mostly off screen by the sentries and minions, and it wasn't until Betsy spawned right at the start of Wave 7 that it became more challenging. Having Feather Fall as an active buff really helps with aerial manueverability, which you need when fighting her. I won, but need to do it twice more to unlock the duplication for the Treasure Bag. I'm going to do it at night, when the Celestial Shell has a greater buff.

The blocks around the crystal cause the enemies to become "ethereal" and not attack you like they would normally. they will phase through the blocks no matter what, but this way you take less damage. it is impossible to prevent the enemies from reaching the crystal, even if you use hoiks to move it far away.

Actuators (Mechanic npc sells them). Just place them in the blocks you want to turn "off" and "on" and connect everything to a button or lever and voila

I personally prefer "lucky" modifier for lots of crit hits, since you can deal tremendous damage if lucky enough (even kill small enemies in one hit) or warding, since whole +20 additional protection is always good (6 accessory slots in expert/master mode 4+ defence each)

Actuated blocks: Set up your blocks around the crystal, put wire+actuators on all the blocks, use wire to hook it up to a nearby switch/lever. Switch them 'off' before placing the crystal (so that they are actuated and become background blocks), place the crystal, and then hit the switch to turn them back 'on', creating a solid wall around your crystal. It'll prevent any potential ranged shots (I believe), but enemies will go right through the wall and attack the crystal once they're in melee range. It's just a way to prevent any ranged attacks, and I believe it's also what's making the enemies ethereal like that (that's what they do when they can't get to the crystal so that they can move through blocks). Forcing them into that ethereal state keeps them in a passive state until either you attack them, they get close enough to the crystal, or I believe if you get close enough to them they'll turn solid again and start attacking. It's a way to cut down on the constant barrage of attacks and give yourself a little breathing room from the horde. Like I said though, neither the solid wall or the ethereal enemies will prevent them from destroying the crystal once they're close enough to attack it.
