I believe worldgen is untouchable in terms of world size, although in 64 bit tmod there's an option to create XL worlds but that's about it. The only possible way to "expand" the world is by using the Subworld Library, like in Polarities Mod

@@Nx042 hm, I doubt it's completely untouchable. If it were, then mods like thorium and calamity shouldn't work properly (they change worldgen, adding stuff). And the fact that someone made an "XL Size map" means that if someone is determined enough, should be able to merge "adding stuff to worldgen" and "expanding the world limit", like, an XXL map or something, adding another island and stuff like that. Would be cool, but probably would take a lot of time and effort.

I remember ages ago, before I beat the wall of flesh, I was digging close to the edge of the world, and I suddenly got a cobalt chestplate. Picked it up from the very side. Dunno why it was there, and I’m pretty sure you can’t get cobalt before beating the WoF.

@variablestar that was actually how you got the jungle armour in older versions of terraria. They changed it to "Ancient Cobalt" in later versions of the game. It's similar to how the shadow armor at one point could only be obtained as a rare drop from eater of souls enemies. The terraria developers decided to add ancient armour variants as a nod to how the armor could be obtained in older versions of the game.

What I think is happening is that after the game tells itself to stop making the ocean, it goes back to generating normal biome stuff, but since there’s only one or two columns left, it doesn’t generate much. Like those gaps, aren’t really gaps, they’re an attempt at a cave

Plot twist: The Devs added this feature into the game as a reference to what happens in Minecraft. This is due to how both games treat each other with respect. This can be seen in the references both game have of each other (Terraria has creeper costume, Minecraft has a yellow text on the loading screen that says: "also try Terraria")

I remember having a dream where I was able to go way more than the limit of space from terraria, when I was above the border it could only pass I saw platforms with at least 8 blocks gap between them and each platform has its own level and the higher the platform the stronger the enemy gets, each platform had more than 3 new mobs that I couldn't describe because they were entirely new ones, after a few months or years I forgot about that dream, but then around last week that dream came back to me and I remembered every single bit of that past dream after that, To describe the dream it was like this ____________ Lvl 20 ____________ Lvl 15 ____________ Lvl 10 ____________ I can't get pass through levels easily and I don't know how to, I remember fighting a boss on a certain level where it had its mechanics like golem, but with a weirder figure and was like blue and yellow something. I still remember what other creatures came each levels, they couldn't be described easily because it's something that I haven't seen and was completely new to it, it had looks like that blue/summoner pillar monsters, and the background wasn't even space for some reason, it had a view of a majestic beautiful clouds as a background, it was so beautiful I wanted it to be in game, And btw, try using a portal gun.

Fun fact: if you have a second monitor and drag your mouse onto it while holding an auto swing item, (a good example is an auto swing boomerang) the boomerang will keep going off screen where your mouse would’ve been if you had a bigger monitor, if this works for the laser drill, and offscreen then you could try to break the wall

in older versions (up to 1.2 i think) terreria didnt have an underworld border for anything apart for the player. liquids and enemies could go there. with my testing it didnt go far tho, only a couple of tiles down

I found that impurity (corruption/crimson/hallow) can also spread through the border. I had made a large world and separated the right hand side from the rest with a wide hellevator, then set up different farms (corruption, crimson, hallow, plus a HUGE gem tree farm containing all types of gem trees) at different depths. Just to be sure I had made sure on the edge there are some incorruptible blocks (smooth granite, IIRC). However, I also set up a crystal farm in the hallow area by placing several rows of platforms of actuated pearlstone connected to switch and even though these platforms were well separated from other area they extended all the way to the right of playable area. Later when I went to that area I noticed that hallow had spread pretty far and the only explanation I could think of was that these crystal farm platforms somehow spread it through the non-visible edge :/

So what you're saying then is that Minecraft and Terraria are canonically connected realms, and the far lands connect them. That's why the far lands are perceived so differently between the two games. In Terraria, it's just a few blocks on the world border, but shifted to a 3D perspective it looks like a massive wall.

The reason for the gaps between the liquid and very edge of the world is crash prevention: if there’s a waterfall out of bounds, Terraria can’t cope with it

The rockets were actually making the same noise that the shotgun did, which means that these are different blocks than what they look like, which in turn explains the line dividing what isn't actually the same kind of block as anything else in the game. Even your sticky bombs were probably just blowing up the dirt from the previous test.

I was playing modded Terraria recently. Fargo's mod adds the thing called "Instatrack". This item allows you to place a rails all over the world in one click. Its also clears up area 4 blocks above. I had a cringe seed, when the ocean is way upper than my house. I didn't know that before i placed instatrack. When i decided to ride to the ocean, there was no water. I was like "ayo wth happened here?" I saw a small hole, got rid of it, took bottomless bucket of water from cheat panel (i was too lazy to build that old thing), and water still flowed somewhere. I tried building a wall at the corner of the map, and it worked! Now we can assume, that these walls at least hold water in the ocean. And also we can say, that only modded items can break them

Myself and a friend actually noticed this VERY early when playing Terraria, as sometimes when we searched through the oceans on smaller worlds there would come enemies from 'outside' the world. In addition to this, you would occasionally get 0 Water Chests in the ocean which led us to further believe the world had more outside the screen than we could see where the chest had spawned.

the world extends past the border you just cant see it or go there, on ps4 earlier versoins you can see it. thats why at the bottom it hits (there is land) and at the middle it doesnt (empty sky) and in space it sometimes does (sky island)

my guess is the blocks on the outside of the world are for evil blocks that start in hardmode, they spread to the ocean infecting it and inwards. i found these in TEdit and they was ebonstone and dirt.

It probably has something to do with how Terraria generates the world. The far left and absolute bottom would have a coordinate of 0 in at least one direction, so that might screw up whatever algorithm decides where to place blocks.

My theory is that the world gen algorithm checks a certain distance, and they added this border so that blocks at the edge of the usable world can do the check validly. Wand of Sparking has done a lot of testing in the buffer.

The sounds play when the projectiles stop. The “barrier” is just notion in the game’s code to stop anything that tries to reach a location past what the game allows you to play within.

@@randomnerd4600 that’s because some objects are allowed to pass. I said it stops anything, not everything. The game allows some objects to pass to make the illusion that there is something past it. Typically barriers only block players and other some other entities the developers don’t want passing it to prevent their game from crashing or bugging out. Try to use a brain before making some half-assed argument against a game developer. :)

For anyone with further questions about my explanation: The bottom barrier blocks lava so the game doesn’t literally drain the whole area. The top barrier blocks everything because there’s no point in traveling any further above (also limits potential crashes due to getting further away from the origin point. The side barriers are the same except that area past them are just not meant to be explored and MAY introduce environment glitches like Minecraft’s “far lands” are.
