Terraria's secret 4th World Size Option ─ Smaller than Small, The "Tiny" World size..?

Terraria world is pretty big: While it's not infinite like the Minecraft, but it still is huge, and gives a good amount of space for players to mess around. Especially the Large world, that'll take you a long time to explore all that! For a singleplayer game, small is enough, however. Small is the smallest size you can get in Terraria, or is it? There is 4th option for size: Tiny. It's only available in mobile port of the game, sadly. Good thing is, we can still get one in PC as well.

This is maybe the smallest world size officially, but I believe the Subworld library mod uses also the Tiny world size, or maybe even smaller for mods like The Stars Above... Making a world smaller than it was created using Tedit can really mess up the backgrounds, making biomes stop registering correctly, there it was just a strange black line, but it can extend all over the Cavern layer, the underground layer... All those infos are from Wand of Sparking's video where he shrunk the world every boss he killed.

At least in 3DS version (if you have a NN3DS model), you can then make small worlds instead of tiny ones. I’m glad I got my hands on a NN3DS, because them tiny worlds are painfully small

On mobile you had the option of “regular” or “expanded” worlds iirc. The regular was tiny and the expanded was small.

as a mobile 1.2 player, there were two world sizes. One was small (tiny), and the other was expanded, roughly the same size as a modern small world.

Hey, the map maker here. When watching this video I couldn't help but to recognize the map layout, I was damn sure I've seen this one. And when you opened the map, I was surprised that this is actually the map I generated! Thanks for showcasing such! Btw I generated the world with 'Advanced World Generation' mod (which does support 1.4.4 now) with no other mods on, but I think modded playthroughs can be made possible.

i remember i used to play on mobile back in the 1.2 days, when 1.4 was still nothing more than just a dream i made my world on the "expanded" setting, which on mobile 1.2 was like a larger version of the world you could get i played that world to death, i beat ocram in that world, and when 1.3 mobile came out i beat moon lord on it then when 1.4 came out i didn't do that much, but i still played it a lot i would really love to play the game again on the exact same world, but the seed is impossible to retrieve on the world so i can't just generate a new world with the same seed

I remember playing the old terraria mobile version on my iPad 4 with my brother. I remember accidentally discovering that you can duplicate items using the games “backup” feature. It was very helpful for the boss summons like the truffle worm because we were very bad at the game and it took like 3 hours to find a single truffle worm. I never ended up beating duke fishron though. I still have the old version installed on my old iPad. The world is 35% hallow and 15% corrupt because I never tried to control the evil. I copied my saves to my iPhone 6s when 1.3 came out and the ocram trophy I had turned into a lunatic cultist one.

I play on pc. I like large worlds. Lots more to explore and build around. Yeah it can be tough finding stuff because its so large but its been working for me. If you setup a good pylon network a large world is pretty good because you can teleport very easy

On mobile there was the 'normal' size (equivalent to tiny today) and the 'expanded' size (equivalent to small today.) If you made a normal world in pre-1.3 mobile like me, it would show as tiny in 1.3

Oh my We had 2 world sizes, normal and expanded in 1.2 expanded had everything but normal worlds are these tiny worlds you are talking about. They had a 33% chance not to spawn in a snow biome because it can’t cram everything in there. Also it only had one evil biome. Expanded was about double size and had 2 evil biomes. I kept my expanded world going into 1.3 and the pillars were squeezed tight, like the middle ones zone is not even 100 blocks away. My tiny worlds were lost in the update though :(

i play 3ds, and u have 2 options, tiny and giant, tiny is really annoying because you can have a 20 block distance between spawn and the jungle or corruption, and giant is way to big. it’s bigger than the standard large world

Download the consolaria mod and play in journey mode (for the lower difficulty) and I'd say you have a pretty accurate recreation of old mobile versions

I still have a tiny world from 8 years ago, and in 1.3 the world actually SHRANK from the original. My ocean was shrunk for unknown reasons, and cut out a small sea castle I had made. After moving the file to a world viewer, I could see the ocean was at different levels and the crimson didn't spread farther than the new world border. Kinda annoying to lose chests filled with loot, but it was interesting to discover. Other fun facts are that the map for some reason can not handle the tiny world size, so when you explore the corners of the world they extend past the map border (Only when moving the file to PC)

If it's a mobile-only thing but the worlds can be imported, is it possible to use a phone emulator and get mobile Terraria and generate some worlds, then transfer the files straight over? Or would there be another step to convert the worlds? Might be fun to try. I know I can use mods for a tiny sized world but I want to do it more 'authentically'
