You're attempting a semantics gotcha and you are failing because gotchas are inherently faulty reasoning since they don't change how something actually works and only serve to deceive and confuse people. 1 + (-1) = 0; 1 - 1 = 0. Those equations are identical. The same goes for adding 0, you are adding nothing therefore 1 + 0 = 1 is the same as saying 1 = 1. Just because you can express something with an addition sign doesn't mean you are actually adding anything.

Terrence sounds very deep, but he doesn't understand the actual process of what's being done through multiplication. 1 times 1 equals 1.The word 'Times' rearranged is 'emits'. So 1 times 1 also means 1 'emits' 1, or one thing 'emits' another 1 thing. As 12 times 8 equals 96, meaning 12 things emit 8 things a piece, or 8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8+8 = 96. This would be like 12 cells 'emitting' or making 8 copies of themselves apiece. The new cells produced would be the 'product' or what they produced. And what they all produced would equal 96 new cells in the case of 12 times 8 which is also 12 'emits' 8 apiece. According to Terrence Howard's logic, 2 times 2 would equal 6 and 3 times 3 would equal 12 and so on and so forth. Because he is also counting the thing that 'emits' (the producer) along with that which was 'emitted' (the product). Multiplication is a function of production. In other words, in 1 times 1 he's counting the first one thing that emitted the one other thing(producer) along with the 1 that was emitted(product or that which was produced). So using his logic, 2 times 2 would equal 6.

Imagine having the privilege of getting a detailed and honest evaluation of a work by someone as busy and prominent as deGrasse Tyson and then turning a total blind eye to the opportunity to learn from his informed response.
