I have the M1 MB Pro 14, which still works like new. I am still tempted by the M4 16-inch version, but maybe in 6-9 months, with some bigger discounts. The price is down £250 on Amazon, so at £2200 for the M4 Pro 512GB/24GB, it is comparable with similar Windows machines.I do not need the M4 Pro, but there is no 16-inch option for the M4 base SKU. I doubt anyone will be unhappy with these machines as they are proving reliable, with great battery and performance when you need it. Excellent speakers and a trackpad to boot.

For my job I use a 14’ M4 Pro 24gb 1tb. It does everything I need it to do. Coming from a 16’ M3 Max 48gbs 1tb, I feel no difference at the moment 🙌🏾

I went from the M1 MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM to the M4 MacBook Pro with 48 GB of RAM. I do like the upgrade but with more performance and GPU cores, I still see some memory pressure using Lightroom with my photos. I photograph roller derby and can have around 4,000 photos that are shot in RAW. There is still an improvement with this upgrade but probably could have benefited if I went to the Max chip but I wanted to stay with the Pro.

hey can you elaborate on memory pressure? i want to buy a M4 Pro i’m also working with photos 1-2k pictures in Raw format, which camera do you shot with?
@chiliverde66Күн бұрын
@@patrickbarac1797 In activity monitor you can see the memory pressure that will go from low to medium to high. It is rare that it gets into the high area and when it does, it is for a brief moment. And it is a good point on the camera because I was primarily using the Canon R6 Mark II (24MP) and upgraded to the Canon R5 Mark II (45MP). The file sizes can be about double when photographing in full RAW. I do use cRAW on the R5 Mark II but the files are still larger that the R6 Mark II's full RAW so this can account for me not necessarily seeing an improvement. I don't know how it would handle the same volume of photos from the 24MP sensor. I am still able to process the photos but at times, it is a little slower going in between photos as I go through them. It is only with the large volume that this happens. Any time that it is a smaller amount, I don't see any issues at all.

The way I see it: if the base model is perfectly fit for the work you are planning to do, buy the base model. All the excess money you would chip in for upgrades, is better spent on its successor in - say - five or six years time.

I upgraded from the 14" M1 Pro MBP with 32 GB of RAM to the new 14" M4 MBP with 24 GB of memory and though I don't really see a significant difference in everyday usage, I'm still very pleased to know that there has been a boost in performance in case I truly need it.

Another fine @TerrenRule video! The M4 chips are truly amazing. I went 16" so I was sucked into the M4 Pro chip. Regarding size, for a person trying to decide, if you are going to travel with it, go 14" you'll be happier. Conversely, If you're like me and it will never leave your home, the 16" is a better choice (IMHO) due to screen size, slightly better speakers, battery life, lower potential fan noise and better performance (which you may not need) at the expense of portability. End of the day though, no real wrong answer. Buy what fits your budget and I'll wager you'll love it.

nice job, well explained…i really, really wanted the 24 gig model, but the Black Friday deal for $1399 was really good for the 16 gig, so i went with that. So far there’s only 1 photo editing program that seems to put the memory pressure into the yellow. Otherwise it’s fast as hell, and good for most people, you’re right…. If you were the first to review this, you probably would have gotten a million hits, because you have the most practical and well explained delivery..

Do you like the nanotexture on the imac displays? The lighting in my home office is challenging and I now kinda of wish I had upgraded to that display.
@darylcheshire16184 күн бұрын
I considered the 16 inch model but I needed the numeric keypad which my Windows laptop has. I do use the M4 Mac mini Pro with the bluetooth keyboard with numeric keypad. My ancient iMac also has one. Currently considering the Macbook with the bluetooth numeric keypad which is smaller than using the extended keypad with the Macbook as a portable solution. The Macbook is much lighter than the Windows laptop.

I bought the base M4 MBP a couple of days ago and I can say it with total confidance: It's good. Too good. Don't even bother upgrading it. Becasue on the SSD side it's best to use an external ssd anyway since nand (ssd) chips have a lifetime and won't last forever. So by using the internal ssd often you bring your macbook closer and closer to its death everyday. And that extra 8gb of ram will not benefit you that much even after a few years(I don't mention the 32gb because the price is too close to the M4 Pro). By the time that extra bit of ram comes handy you are most likely upgrading anyway. I can say with confidance that this laptop will easily last 7 years. If you look at even some of windows based compatitors, a lot of them have 16gb and they don't even give you an option to upgrade it. Not to mention windows is a lot messier when it comes to resource management. Also the base M4 has the best battery compared to all small macbooks. However I discourage you to wait for a M4 MBA. The M4 chip NEEDS a fan. It has so much power to run without a ram. Of course if you know you need more power, then, you need more power. But in my experience editing videos, making music, playing games using somewhat heavy emulators and programming, the base is perfect. Also pro tip: if you need to run things on a windows PC and you're trying to upgrade your MacBook Pro just to run a virtual machine, get the base macbook AND a windows laptop on the side😂 you can get a decent window laptop just with the price of upgrading the MacBook Pro. I picked up a VivoBook 16 with a 13th gen i5, 8GB base ram and I upgraded it to 24 and it was still only $420 on sale (after upgrading the ram btw).

I dont know what I have to choose between m4 pro 24gb ram or m4 32gb ram. I will maybe use my mac for my computer science curse : programming and work in AI projects Sorry for my bad english iam French.
@itsbtunes4 күн бұрын
@reverse1646if that's your budget and you seriously need to work on AI projects, definitely the M4 Pro 24GB. You get much more power. AI stuff are GPU accelerated so having that better GPU is much more important.

@@MMantiMMantiI agree with you on that 100%. I use my MacBook for day to day stuff and making music mostly but heavy stuff go to my pc. But I guess some people wanna be fully on a macbook. The value you get out of an actual pc is unbeatable. But I gotta admit apple makes some damn good laptops too.

I have almost bought one about 4x now lol. Currently using a Surface Pro 7 (i7, 16GB, 256GB) and its great for school but want to build a desktop PC. For the $2,500+ I would spend on the M4 Pro MacBook Pro, I could build a very nice desktop PC to use to all of my ML work and research. Hoping to get an RTX 5080 when they become available here in a few weeks. Will for sure get a MacBook Pro down the road, but I think considering I do 95% of all of my work from my desk, a desktop PC build right now makes the most sense for me.
