I love how you never seem to make lists of 'mistakes to avoid" and 'things you have seen that upset you.' Instead, you have a sense of wonder at what happens. This is the kind of attitude we want to carry in our first cruise. Start out with zero points on the scoreboard and add points for all the good stuff. So many people seem to like to start with some mythic vision of perfection and subtract points for everything that goes wrong. So they can have a negative reaction to a cruise with loads and loads of great stuff. Thanks for showing a more positive side while not covering up the negatives, just not dwelling on them.

Loving your videos! I travel solo and also with family when scheduling permits. Like you, I enjoy travelling solo and having the options for alone time or meeting new people at various events or simply chatting to neighbours at the bar or in the restaurant. Many people are surprised to hear I travel solo and say they couldn’t do it. Your videos show how great it can be to travel alone and that there’s nothing to be afraid or anxious about. The only downside to travelling solo can be the cost, but I look for deals or solo friendly cruise lines. Keep up the great work! 👍

I'm amazed that the Guinness people weren't smiling; in fact, I'm amazed that anyone who comes in contact with you isn't smiling. I've never joined a fan club in my life, but I would definitely join yours. I've had very good experiences with NCL, so I was so glad you defended them. Just as you said, they can't control the weather. Of course, things don't always go exactly according to plan, but one thing I've learned is to be flexible. I'm taking a transatlantic cruise next month on NCL Getaway and really looking forward to it.

It was extremely busy and loud in there so it’s a tough working environment but it definitely wasn’t a relaxing pub atmosphere 😂 I really wasn’t trying to defend NCL, I was just pointing out to not complain to people that have no control over what’s going on! Being flexible is definitely important, Linda! I did a transatlantic on the Getaway this time last year! I loved it a lot, the Getaway is a great ship. I like the entertainment a lot. Guinness experience for us, and then we also did Dublinia (an excellent museum of the history of London back to viking times and before - great for families) and the National Leprechaun Museum of ireland. Wow, I had a great time at the Guinness store, but there was only a handful of people (obviously not a cruise day) and the staff were wonderful. Probably 50 people up on top deck. But hey I was lucky to be able to spend 8 days exploring Dublin and several weeks exploring Ireland.

Just subscribed! I'm a big solo cruiser with NCL and with solo friends that I have met on NCL! I did the Dawn European Cruise... last October with Scotland, Ireland and getting on/off in London. Loved going to Stonehenge at the end that they added on before flying back to the US. The Highlands of Scotland was my absolute favorite and seeing the Highland Cows "Coos" 😂 and all the sheep with the black faces. Enjoyed this video and will continue to watch others! Love NCL! I loved my trip on the Dawn in 2023 we went to Scotland and Ireland leaving and returning to England! even when you book your excursions through NCL. You have to always wait for the smaller boats to take it to land no matter where you go. Like you said You just have to be patient and it will all work out. Yelling at people never gets you anywhere! Glad you had fun in Dublin and that you changed your mind on Guinness. If I ever ran into you anywhere, I would totally recognize you! Our next Norwegian cruise will be to Hawaii in 2025! Great video mate. I'm from Dublin and actually work on ships. Ironically my very first job as a Guest Entertainer was on the Dawn. Loved my time there. Unfortunately we do have an incredibly bad problem when it comes to homelessness. Our government have done nothing to help and its been local artists who have been trying to make a difference. That area of Dublin is called The Liberties, where you walked through to get to the Storehouse and its definitely one of the more working class areas in the city. But on a sunny day, Dublin can be an incredible place to watch the world go by.

I was in Dublin last year Ben. As I don't drink I didn't do the Guinness tour - but I did tour Dublin Castle - which was worth it - a real insight into the history of Ireland. I guess the ship is not that small if they still needed to use tenders. Did you deliberately choose to build loyalty with Norwegian and not say Princess? How much is this cruise Ben? You have a great appetite - I'm 61 and so have to watch what I'm eating - so I enjoy seeing you eating all this food with such gusto:)

Dublin Castle would have been great to explore but I already did a lot of walking so I skipped it! Next time 😊 the honest answer to why I’ve been with NCL is they offer the best prices for solo cruisers. All 3 cruises I’ve taken I’ve booked last minute to not paid a single supplement so saved a lot of money. I do think the ships, service, everything is great but the main reason is the solo price. I’d definitely love to try other cruise lines, I’m not limiting myself to NCL. There’s a video coming up soon when I mention the price. Cheers, Steve!

Just had to see it from the other side. We live just in from where you were on the hill. We se the cruise ships come in all summer. 3 or 4 every week. I have sailed out of that harbour all my life. It can get a lot rougher than the day you had. I think the reason the tenders are so slow is because one time the weather closed in and a tender went the wrong side of the harbour mouth and ended up on the rocks so they have to have a port rib escort each one so they cut down the number that can be on the go at any one time. Dublin port is deep enough but the fees are huge compared to Dunleary (DUN Laoghaire) If you went into the commercial port it would take you longer to get to the centre of the city without the Dart. (Dublin Area Rapid Transit). Some of the ships play a fanfare on their ships horns as they leave or shoot off fireworks. We deffo get the best deal on that. Open the shutters in the morning and wow, there is a giant ship in the bay. Always in a slightly different position always pointing in a new direction. Always sharing with commercial shipping and giant ferries. It's a busy spot but definitely not sheltered. Dun Laoghaire Harbour eas the largest man made harbour in the world for over 100 years as it is built out into the sea rather than a pier blocking off a natural inlet. The stone was quarried from the hill behind us. Likewise for the station you went into. Interestingly it was such good quality granite that they used it to build the embankment of the Thames all along g by the Houses of Parliament in London and Battersy Pumping station when they remodelled London to clean up the sewer system. So you have walked on that exact stone before for sure. Thanks for your report. Was fun to see.

The cruise I recently took to Greenland and Newfoundland had multiple tender ports and learned from the first tender port that the non cruise excursion guests could tender after 10am, so, either get up really early for the early bird, if you have that option at that port, or, enjoy a leisurely morning with a nice big breakfast until you can get on a tender after 10am...it was a great lesson learned and made the remaining tender ports quite easy to navigate...glad you enjoyed yourself and not fall into the complaining crowd 👍😁

Great video. We were on the same cruise and overall it was a great experience. Unfortunately the day before in Derry our tender crashed into the ship and there was multiple injuries. When I saw how windy it was in Dublin I decided to stay on the ship. Not a big fan of tenders.

Great review! After taking a tall sail ship I will NEVER take a large cruise liner again. Tenders were a breeze and we went to places the larger ships cant go. Also food quality by far was better and for most part customer setvice was good.

Hi Ben - I like watching your videos because you tend to show your emotions, both positive and negative, rather easily. Some youtubers are happy-happy all the time, but that seems a bit dishonest. I seriously recommend Dublin castle to visitors... not only the history of Dublin castle istelf but a little known fact - Dublin Castle is home to the Chester Beatty museum which is the richest, most wonderful collection of Asian art in Europe... and it has a very nice restaurant...

We spent our honeymoon in Edinburgh and Dublin. You weren't in a bad part of town. All of Dublin is like that 😅 We didn't make it to Dun Laoghaire. Next time you're in the area, I'd suggest going to Malahide & Howth. Someday, we want to see the Cliffs of Moher in Western Ireland, I was reading that seeing the cliffs from the ocean is a great experience. You're a great guy Ben! This channel will definitely continue to grow. I showed some of the Metallica crew your videos, and they loved it. I know a few of them are subscribers.

I’ve only been to Dublin by plane so thanks for showing us how to get there from the port. As regards waiting for the tender, that’s almost in your past - hit gold and you’re in the priority tender club, you don’t have to queue (‘line’ indeed!), you can just jump in there with the excursions folk. As regards Latitudes, here’s a tip - cheekily ask the Cruise Next people if they have any of the old badges secreted away, they’re shaped like a ship and so cute. I’ve been to the Heineken brewery in Antwerp, but as I don’t touch alcohol - super-allergic - I was so very, very bored… it was a press trip so I couldn’t get out of it! Anyway, glad you enjoyed the Guinness on second go, supposedly they put meat into the vat while brewing in Ireland, hence the different taste… this may be apocryphal. We always head straight to O’Sheehan’s after a port day, I love those comfy booths. I once congratulated a manager on the clever pun, but they said it was just an Irish name they picked. Oh well. I wonder if you ever met that nice lady again, Ben… meeting you probably made her day right back.

Actually, I met someone who was a gold member and they were not allowed to board the tenders with the excursion groups, they were told they had to wait too! Wow, I didn’t read anything about them adding meat to the mix in Ireland. O’Sheehan’s is a great option, after this day it was my first option when returning back to the ship late afternoon. I'm glad your enjoying the cruise. That Port must be a continuous problem for cruise ships. When I was there in May on the Getaway all kind of problems. Tenders couldn't leave because of high waves. We were stuck crowded in a lounge with mobs of people waiting to go ashore. Since we were late getting to the tour 1 hour was cut from the tour. We got to walk around the town which was nice. On the way back to the ship the Tenders could not get everyone back on time. So we left late which cut our time at the next port Belfast. I found the complaining passengers overwhelming. I have to admit I was glad when the cruise ended in Southampton. It was nice but far to many passengers on the Getaway. I really can't take being crowded in like that with complaining people. I didn't realize Dublin was so close to the Port. I would have liked to take that train into the city.

I agree, I’m sure this port constantly has problems with tender boats. But you just gotta deal with it and be patient. Things will go wrong but that’s okay. I have no time for the complainers! I enjoyed sailing on the Getaway, I did a transatlantic last year. Getting to Dublin by train was super easy! Thank you for watching 😊

Hi Sandria, I'm from Dublin. Definitely get the train, it is right beside the port and will be the quickest way of getting into the city centre. You will see a bit of the coast on the way in too. Get off at Pearse St. for the main tourist places such as Grafton St. (shopping), Dublin Castle, Trinity, etc. Enjoy Dublin, Aisling

That was a nice day.. with the exception of the long wait for the tender, but as you said, it’s a holiday so people can try not to be too stressed out. I do understand the worry about missing their excursions, but if there’s nothing you can do about it, then there’s no point getting all worked up. Hey was that a cycling fish? Ben if I ran into you on one of my cruises I would have thought I died and gone to heaven! As far as complaining goes, the only gripe I had about NCL this past summer was I heard “no mam” over and over, whereas on Princess a month later it was “yes mam right away” or “I will certainly try to do everything I can to fulfill your request”. That has really stuck with me and now that I have reached almost the highest level on Princess I’m inclined to stick with them.

Unfortunately Ben this isn't new on any cruise ship that has a tender we always wait until after 10am then the main rush is usually over we just go and have a leisurely breakfast and anyway the shops and attractions very rarely open until after 9am. It's just a nightmare if it's only a short visit and you have to be onboard by mid afternoon.
