@@hippiehippiehippiehippie he's wrong, it doesn't imply garbage, it just means dumping zone, so the whole name would just literally translate to munitions dump. "Stort(en)" means to dump/to pour. And plaats = place. The name is fine. Another use of "stort(en)" would be like pouring cement, where stort(en) is also used. Actually, as another user said, Munitiedepot would probably be better anyway. But also Nederlands is geen mooie taal sorry not sorry

While "Stortplaats" is a synonym for "Vuilnisbelt", it's not the term most people would use these days. That said, I just googled it and apparantly the largest "Munitiestortplaat" (yes one word, no we won't explain) is found somewhere in Zeeland (yes Old New Zealand) where ammo gets discarded... so yeah, it really does actually mean what you think it means. Modern name for this thing is "Munitiedepot" btw, which shows exactly how unnecesary our language is as we borrow from french, german & english EN GODNONDEJUH NIEMAND HOUDT ONS TEGEN!
