Ancient Tomb still taps for 3 with Damping Sphere out since you (Ben) get to choose the order of the replacement effects! You can choose to have the Damping Sphere effect go first which makes it tap for one, followed by the tripling from the Nyxbloom Ancient, giving you 3 colorless! It’s kind of similar to the way damage doublers and Torbran interact!

I got curious on the Damping Sphere + Nyxbloom Ancient interaction. Lands that generate only one mana initially, would get trippled first and then changed to just a colorless, but if the land already generates more than one initial mana, then you can choose for Damping Sphere to apply first and then apply Nyxbloom Ancient, to get 3 colorless out of Ancient Tomb for example.

2:24:08 For the purposes of clarification, the interaction with Damp(en)ing Sphere and Nyxbloom Ancient (or any or mana multiplier) is a bit unique. For any of Ben's lands that tap for a single mana, Nyxbloom Ancient says that the mana produced is tripled. Damp(en)ing Sphere then responds by seeing lands tap for more than 1 mana and thus turns it into a single colorless mana. For any land that would produce more than 1 mana, Damp(en)ing Sphere would react, causing the land to only produce a single colorless mana, upon which Nyxbloom Ancient would react and cause it to generate 3 colorless. So at this point, Nyxbloom Ancient has turned Ben's normal lands into wastes and the Ancient Tomb now taps for 3 colorless for the price of 2 life. Yay? Also, because of Wild Growth, the Forest taps for a single colorless but also adds {G} from the Wild Growth which is then tripled for {G}{G}{G}. Are you following along? This will be on the test.
@edgarmarques97 Жыл бұрын
Does Wild Growth produce 3? Its a triggered mana ability that happens in reaction to the land being tapped but it is not being itself "being tapped for mana" so I think it only produces 1 mana

Ancient Tomb CAN tap for 3 colorless with Damping Sphere and Nyxbloom Ancient on the board. The controlling player can choose in which order they want to apply the effects. Since Ancient Tomb makes 2 mana, its controller can have it first be reduced by Damping Sphere and then tripled with Nyxbloom Ancient.

1:22:50 Fun play, Ben could've tapped the Omenreader to pay for Craterhoof, reducing it's cost by 2. This would let him have 3 mana after the cast, using his Staff of Domination to untap the Omenreader and let it join in the attack

So yes I could play canlander, BUT two issues: the first is that my primary cEDH is a budget Inalla list that uses her eminence ability to loops wizard effects and it simply does not function in canlander, the other is that getting a canlander community up and running is a hard thing to do that I quite simply lack the time for. That being said I would be more than happy to play a good enchantress deck in canlander if I could do so in person.

Intuition is likely not banned in commander because of the rules commitee's insistance on having the banlist be a suggestion on what types of cards shouldn't be played instead of an actual banlist. So there's a land destruction card in there (Balance) to imply you probably shouldn't be playing land destruction but they won't put cards like Armageddon on there because they feel like somehow putting just Balance on there is doing enough and the rule 0 conversation will pull the rest of the weight (it doesn't).

I'm curious about this and I couldn't find any rulings. The text of trinisphere indicates that it changes the mana cost of a spell. So if you have an ability that allows you to cast a spell without paying the cost, which is different than changing the cost, wouldn't that get around trinisphere?

I had Shaman tribal going for a while. Jund, with Sek'kuar as the commander. Essentially zero synergy, other than the cards that say "Shaman" on them, it was just a bunch of middling value activated abilities and punish mechanics. Playable, but not very powerful. Also, Patron of the Moon landfall is actually hilarious fun. Amulet makes almost everything go, but you can infinite without it. Crumbling Vestige is the key, as it's (I believe) the only land that makes mana as an ETB ability. Now, I will say that there is value in playing common tribes, but in non-standard colors. I had a mono-blue Wizard deck (Azami, to no one's surprise) and it was kinda boring because it just did the same thing every time. Draw a bunch of cards, bounce all your stuff, then swing out with a full board and deal 5 damage because wizards are tiny. So I expanded the color pie, switched to Damia (who is a wizard, but has no wizard synergy), and got access to all the good black and green wizard. (There are not a lot of good green wizards). But switching out excess counterspells for ramp and kill spells makes a better deck, and honestly, no one expects the green wizards.
