The overwhelming human compassion for those people involved in a wreck is astounding. What genuine humanity they show DRIVING BY WITHOUT CHECKING TO SEE IF THE DRIVER NEEDS ASSISTANCE.

It's worth pointing out that a LOT of these places don't have laws to help "good Samaritans" the way we see in the States... Some have programs for similar things, but you absolutely MUST be certified in such a degree of first aid for the law to help you. Otherwise, you get sued or even found criminally liable if you "interfere"... I've even seen in the States such an outpouring of "well meaning people" that they snarled traffic so far back it actually cost lives because the first responders couldn't get to the accident and the injured. As much as I'd like the help if I was ever in such trouble, I can appreciate some of the sentiment of people just getting the hell out of the way if they don't know what they're doing. ;o)
@gnarthdarkanen74644 жыл бұрын
@ Yeah, the point still being IF you can manage to do so safely. There's no good to come of hitting the shoulder only to tumble off the mountain, or to end up injuring someone worse than if they'd just stayed still inside the car. I've stopped to help, too. I've never been a cop, but I was trained up to "battlefield medic" in the US Navy. AND I've seen more than a few single-car accidents turned into total clusterf***s from as many hopeful rescuers as rubber-neckers and looky-lou's... I'm only speaking to a matter of prudence. AND especially if there's already a crowd gathering, it may well be best to just quietly motor on. After so many people any more is just adding to the chaos. Good intentions don't mitigate adding a chain-reaction or pile-up to a one or two car incident. ;o)

I've driven trucks for 31 years... so I'll be among the first to agree that car drivers will often put themselves in the WORST possible position in relation to trucks (particularly when turning at intersections)... but this video shows a lot of truck drivers who seem completely unaware of their surroundings. Also... It seems that A LOT of the drivers hauling shipping containers, don't even come close to properly securing the containers to their trucks.
@tenspeed19603 жыл бұрын
I'm a few years behind you. But I've learned Being around a truck during a clear day is bad. Being around a truck at night is worse. Being around a truck when the pavement is wet is deadly. Most times you don't realize how much traction you've lost till you have to hit the brake.

BTW for you non commercial drivers, it's always better to merge behind a commercial truck as opposed to in front of it. And, my fellow truckers, never swerve to avoid a collision unless you can put your rig in the ditch.

Alot of these truckers are falling asleep at the wheel in these countries that don't have much regulation. @@upperleftcoastchelseafan7718 You must drive a Subaru or a Prius. You have no clue why these incident happen. You just heard it on the local King-5 evening "news." Which it isn't. The heavy regulations has done nothing in terms of regulating sleep for drivers. NOTHING. They are there because insurance companies are now in charge of the trucking companies. And, they don't like truckers or trucks because the effects of accidents cost them big bucks - not like a fender bender on your Beemer. Those accidents in the video are likely the result of drunk truckers going too fast - that's it. Those guys will pull over and sleep whenever they want to over there, and they will drink. Drunk truckers are not a huge problem here in the US. They speed here for other reasons, which I have characterized elswhere in this thread. The DOT regulations have made little difference in over-all accidents, because most of them are caused by cars. By far, most truck-involved accidents are fender benders, or are the result of being violently cut off by a car, the the car speeds away, never to face consequences. But the KIRO 7 News Team reports a semi blocking I-5, State Patrol on the scene. Such idiots. no mention of a witness seeing a Prius driving away , totally oblivious.

In real life I used to get a ride to work from my boss. He used to jam his brakes on and jerk the wheel to avoid hitting a squirrel. I told him that they are nimble and can run between the tires even if you tried to hit them. By doing his move he was confusing them. He ran over the critter in the next few days. These accidents are occuring in nations where the laws and legal systems are unreliable. This is WHY these accidents occur: imbeciles are permitted to get behind the wheel. This is also why witnesses rarely seem to stop. Don't get involved. You never know if the next imbecilic menace is driving for the ganglords.

When I took driver's ed. in 1970, they could tell us that professional truck drivers were the safest drivers on the road, and it remained true for a long time. They were Unionized employees who could lose their jobs if they got too many tickets, and the Union made sure they didn't need to speed or drive without sleep. Today's drivers are "independent contractors" driving and driving without limits or rules and with minimal qualifications. They are true "Road Hogs", aggressive, speeding and dangerous.
@jwall60063 жыл бұрын
If you look most of this isn’t in the US. A lot of it is stupid drivers who think can squeeze right in between without realizing that it can take a football field or 2 in length to stop a truck. There are situations you see here, like loads not packed or tied down correctly, ice, rain, snow, and wind. I’m not saying the drivers are always right, but there are extenuating circumstances. I’ve never seen a rude truck driver. In fact there have been a couple of times that they’ve stopped to help me on a highway or freeway. Just stay out of their way. Like the sign says, if you can’t look up and see the driver in his mirror he can’t see you.
@garylefevers3 жыл бұрын
I do not know about the union drivers, however when I was a kid in the 70's, the few over the road truckers I knew pretty much stayed coked up in order to get in as much driving time as humanly as well as inhumanily possible. No doubt these were the exception. Edit: However come to think about it, a couple of trucking songs even reference drug use. Like the original "Six Days on the Road."
@StoneInMySandal3 жыл бұрын
We even had a truck driver come to our school and tell us how safe they had to be. He showed us his 1,000,000 mile certificate for zero incidents and was really proud of it. He was a classic, super serious, hard working guy. Now, after decades of sales calls all over the US I feel certain that guy was either a rarity or an actor the Teamsters paid to to recruit new drivers. Because they sure don’t drive safely now. Big trucks hit peak benefit in the late 1970s and since then their value has declined precipitously while the taxpayer burden they create has skyrocketed. About 9% of US car insurance premiums go directly to offset the financial losses incurred by over the road truck accidents. It’ll be good when trucks are automated.
@dinahnicest65253 жыл бұрын
@@StoneInMySandal They once could be trusted to drive with superlative safety. When storms made the roads hazardous to drive, the tail lights of convoys of slow moving trucks helped us to see the road and move with confidence either in line behind them or as we passed them. They always yielded to passenger cars, and you never had to suddenly brake to avoid a truck. Those days are gone.
@GhostTrucking5453 жыл бұрын
I am an independent contractor. I own my truck. You are misinformed. We are still held to dot standards. We must comply with federal regulations and too many points on our license we do get our cdl revoked. If you see a trucker behaving unsafe stop in any weigh station that are located on every interstate and talk to the dot officer in charge and give as much information you can we are all on a federal database and our information is easily accessible by the dot. If they do not catch up to us local police will. It's always handy to know where to find a dot officer. Regardless of company or independent contractor the dot can revoke our license right there on the spot the days of super truckers has ended with the birth of gps that tracks our every location at all times we log out hours of service on what is called a eld and it's our onboard computer. It's illegal to disable these or doctor our logs it's a federal crime and is punishable by a very lengthy prison sentence.
@michellegray78923 жыл бұрын
This is what happens when you drive too fast for the road conditions/around curves and do not have the weight evenly distributed. The only sympathy I have for any of these is the few who were trying to avoid an accident because some idiot in a car decided to cut right in front of them, and those who got caught in it that had absolutely nothing to do with the cause of the accident and couldn't get out of the way in time.

I will say this in defense of the guys I've met who are Russian or Ukrainian drivers. They do get it. Of all the foreign drivers in the US, they are the best. It's the guys from east Africa that worry me the most. They are aggressive while driving and aggressive if you are involved in an accident with them. At the ports, they will jump out of their trucks and surround you if there is a minor fender bender. Accusing you of causing the damage, when clearly you didn't. They just suck.
