Its interesting how the shape of the counties change across the country. Toward the east they are small random shapes, in the middle the counties become more square and organised and then to the west they just get bigger and less organised xD

The evenness is due to ranching lands that were really large. Usually high pop areas result in crazy looking counties.

Don't forget about the gerrymandering. You can see (what I presume to be) it at 2:00 as the same counties in NE Colorado pulse year after year after year. People were messing with the boundaries to try and get favorable demographic splits, most likely.
@CooperCarr8 жыл бұрын
Jason Baker First this isn't me being an a hole on youtube, just speculating. I think gerrymandering is voting districts not county lines. Cause I think voting boundaries are within counties. Could be wrong as I haven't looked much up. senatedistrict10.com/images/TarrantPcts2012.jpg

+Will Law ha ha ha excellent !
@logancamp18 жыл бұрын
+Will Law To idiots like you the land was purchased from other nations......Started out with the land that makes up the United States today. The land was ENTIRELY under control some nation. Their was NOT one piece of land that was NOT under the authority of a country. It started out in the seven years war. France and britian dispute territory west of the colonies. Britian wins the war and gains the territory they disputed with france. Revolutionary War breaks out. United States wins and gains independence and signs the treaty of paris and britian forfeits the land they had gained from france during the seven years war. So more land is now under authority/control by the United States. France sells louisiana to the United States. More land is under control/authority of the United States. Spain sells Florida to the United States. Mexico and the United States start disputing land around 1836 which would lead to the statehood of Texas. Mexican-American war breaks out over the border of Texas. American troops occupy California and Mexico gives up California to the United States. Finally in 1848 all land that currently houses the main 48 states in the mainland is now under the authority of the United States. It is their land NOW. They can choose to do whatever they want with the land they received. Lets see the land they received was either forfeited to them, sold to them, or given to them because of their victory in a war. It is just NOT the U.S.'S fault as to what happened to the native americans. You can blame the spanish empire for having land here where native americans lived. You can blame France for having land here where native americans lived. You can blame the U.K. for having land here where native americans lived. You can blame the U.K. for wanting to put colonies here in the first place where native americans lived. You can blame the british parliament for not letting the colonies have representation in parliament. You can blame King George the third for his stupid ass taxes for a seven years war that he started with france. You can blame france for allying with us in the revolutionary war. You can blame the british army for not being good enough to hold us back and defeat us in the revolutionary war. NO MATTER how you look it. It's just NOT the U.S.'s fault

I'm curious, when you added the western part of the colony of Virginia, you had the borders follow the current borders of Kentucky and West Virginia. If I'm not mistaken, the border between Kentucky and Tennessee was in dispute for awhile as surveyors kept making mistakes. That's why the border doesn't accurately follow the parallel of latitude of 36 degrees and 30 minutes north, which was the border of Virginia and North Carolina colonies.

US population in 1760 is about 1,593,625 people. US population in 1870 is about 38,558,371 people. US population in 2020 is about 332,693,000 people. Those numbers just tells how fast the US is growing partly due to immigrations and abundance of agricultural lands. The United States from 1760 to 2020 is like a 20,776.5% increase overall. Compare it to UK from 1600 to 2020 is a 960.7% increase in population. Compare it to Russia from 1600 to 2020 is just a 942.4% increase in population. Compare it to China from 1600 to 2020 would be a 913.4% increase in population. It’s really nice to see the past data and how they stand out.

I have another request, which would be to show how Congressional Districts were created. For example, in about 1880, California had only four seats in the House of Representatives, one for only the County of San Francisco, one going from Oakland to Lake Tahoe, one north of that Oakland, and one district for all of California south of SFO airport!

what's going on with that SW chunk of current OK? It looks like it started out as part of OKlahom territory in 1830s, then part TX in 1836, then suddenly in 1890s it flips back and forth a bunch of times, every few months/years until it finally remains part of OK territory. Is this connected to rancher encroachment into native (american Indian) lands in 2nd half of 19th century? If so I thought that was all illegal, but this animation depicts that there were periods of legality (if that is indeed what is behind this).
