RESIDENTS of Tswelopele Ext 8 in Thembisa, Ekurhuleni are raising concerns about poor service delivery.
This section, located next to Thembisa Mall, lies adjacent to a similar area called Duduza, separated only by a river.
Upon entering Tswelopele Ext 8, visitors are immediately greeted by an unpleasant smell.
The area is an informal settlement, with shacks primarily constructed from corrugated iron sheets and plastic.
The area is rough and has inadequate roads, with some streets filled with low-hanging izinyoka cables.
According to residents, these conditions have persisted for a long time.
They claimed that different councillors have come and gone, yet none have made improvements, and they argue that the current councillor has also not assisted.
Pheeha Mabitsela, a ward committee leader in the area, expressed his disappointment to Daily Sun regarding the poor living conditions in the community, particularly criticising the inadequately constructed bridge.
"I speak from a place of concern because this bridge is very small, and when it rains, it overflows to the point where we cannot even see it. We were led to believe the bridge would be larger than this, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
"When we questioned the size of the bridge, the councillor said funds were allocated to other projects since we will also need roads, water, and electricity. This councillor has not done anything for us. He will tell you that the matter has been elevated and leave it there," he claimed.
While inspecting the bridge location, we encountered Rasta Mbele, a local man using a wheelbarrow and tools to clear rocks from the path.
This effort assists others in crossing the river to Duduza.
