It definitely seems to have evolved into a romantic relationship, something we can chalk up to earth's customs and culture rubbing off on them. Even though their culture most likely doesn't have a concept of romantic partners, they've become them! Definitely not monogamous, though.

Although one thing that I think might be interesting is that they did have something approaching relationships of romantic nature on their planet. Terri being Terry’s partner. However it may be a biological thing with them as humans biologically find life mates while their species might just not have that. After all they don’t seem to mate and probably reproduce by budding. However now that they’ve been introduced to Earths customs they may have just been influenced and gone beyond their base instincts and adapted to something new
