This is a nice short film. I love what Terry says about considering the beauty of the form and art of his conTRAPtion, the melody of the drums, and the reason for his enormous drumkit. I hear melodies with my drums, and I appreciate Terry Bozzio's combination of skill and creativity.
@lucster615 жыл бұрын
The fact that ppl think it's a waste is because when ur a drummer, u tend to ignore the concept of melodies and concentrate on beat. For that fact, lot's of ppl think this set it overkill for no reason, but for his purposes Bozzio uses this kit in the way it is meant to be. So don't get annoyed by the reaction of most, it's simply as Bozzio said: "it's hard to get passed the overwhelming impression of this drum".

I would love to hear him improvise on that set live breaking the limits with a whole scale available. Bozzio was also really funny when on stage with FZ, sad theres no more of that now.

Last April I've has the chance to see this kit in the flesh (wood, mylar, bronze, whatever...) and even before Mr Boozio lays a stick on it you're wiping drool off your shirt! Chad Wackerman's kit next to it, which is by no means small, looked like a toy kit from Sears. Thank you Sirs Bozzio, Wackerman and Minnemann for one of the coolest evenings of my life !!!

Very frustrating to see all the 'experts' talking down on a guy who works on moving drums forward as an art form. They just don't understand they're holding themselves back. Who are you to judge? The guy watching the video on youtube. Not the guy making the video happen.
@drumavidcheckupz479210 жыл бұрын
Dfd Dfd Well, As far as I know this guy had something to do with the reintroduction and design of the double bass pedal. Is that not a contribution? Besides that, every single generation of drummer that came after him that likes doing orchestrations owes something to this guy and his studies on Ostinato. He didn't invented it but sure helped popularize it. That includes, Mangini, Lang, Minneman and so on. What do you selectively choose to ignore the obvious facts then? Also, is his CHOICE to use physical sounds and not electronic and who is anyone to judge him and why? Is what he's doing really affecting you that much? I don't think so. Also, I've seen his work on Drum Channel. Is worth listening to what he has to say and share. Nevertheless I prefer Jojo Mayer so I guess I also agree with what your point is but I don't have to criticize either of them.

If I didn't know how accomplished a percussionist TB is, I'd just suspect that he suffers from "drum envy"! But he's been amazing since he was a kid, playing with Zappa. And I'm one of the folks that appreciate his work with UK as much as Bruford's work. He really is an amazing player.

I had a chance to see Bozzio perform solo in '97, and it was among the most astounding performances I've seen. I don't know what qualifications dragflamdrummer has in this field, but the very suggestion that Bozzio "can't play" is simply an opinion an not a fact. It's an exercise in ignorance. If your opinion is based on the fact that Bozzio DOESN'T play in this particular video, further searches for Bozzio's work on KZbin will reveal his abilities in spades.

Really, it's for soloing. Terry makes melodies from the toms and cymbals. He uses most of the components, if not all. If you ever see him play on it, you see how he makes "songs".
@lileulileu17 жыл бұрын
It's not the bigger number of toms that gives you melody in your playing. It's melodical thinking what you need.

Hey, if you guys don't like him, it's no big deal. Of course his drum melodies wouldn't make sense if you transcribed them and played them on the piano. Somehow, you're missing the whole point of this. He's drumming in a melodic fashion that we've not really heard from other drummers. We think it's cool and talented.

I think the Bozzio thing has to be seen to be understood. If you've never seen him LIVE it's worth holding your opinion until you have. I was moved by his playing, as much by the feeling as the sound and afterwards spoke to him for over an hour, not just about music but some really deep stuff. He's a fantastic player and an incredible person. As for comments about him being an average player, he was the only one that could nail Frank Zappas "Black Page" when it came out....

@BeezleBoy "kc5tng's" point comes off quite clear: those who worry about the price aren't going to afford it, not all of the viewers of this video. I don't understand your position on the flawed assumption. It seems as though he simply made a relatively true, though probably stereotypical, statement that I'm sure most of the viewers of this video can relate to. (Notice how I used the word most? That means I am not generalizing the viewing audience, something you seem quite uptight about.)

@kc5tng- Terry probably didn't pay a dime for this kit cause he is sponsored by DW & they're only too happy I'm sure you build this for him so he can go around the country putting on drum clinics like this one he's setting up for & the advertising that DW gets out of it is their payment.
