Contrary to what everyone else has said, I think he seemed to be alright about it all. He took the jibes well, and I think he was playing along a bit with the miserable image schtick. Also, he smiled on a music video way before Colourfield. Fun Boy Three, The Telephone Always Rings, he smiled and laughed quite a lot throughout that. The way I read him, he wasn't averse to smiling but never felt the need to smile just out of politeness when he didn't find something funny. Zig and Zag raised the corners of his mouth a few times here, so I'd say he was amused enough by the antics.
