He did much more for Blakes 7 and Survivors than Doctor Who.

The thing to remember is that Nation and the writers were often limited by what happened around the series in real life. Nation couldn't write his series 3 episodes with Blake and Jenna and the overall story that would have been retained if both Thomas and Knyvette had stayed. Boucher had to write out Cally because Jan Chapel didn't want to return and 'Rescue' was a result of Nation's 'Terminal' not being the official end of the show. 'Blake' had to feature Blake's death, because Gareth Thomas insisted on it. The BBC's attitude to SF meant the shoot-out cliffhanger never got resolved/followed up on. So, after 'Star One' I regard the show as not continuing on with the original story vision.

Yes, had they not destroyed the liberator at the end of season 3 it could have been different. Maybe using the "harvest of kirous" plot to end season 3 and start season 4 ?

there was never an 'original story vision'. Like all other shows(even modern serialised ones like Breaking Bad), it was written on a season-by-season basis.

@@DarthRushy Like Terry Nation boasted to a producer about his idea, but didn't even have a series bible, outlines or notes at hand. He just wrote everything on the fly. It's not like how Babylon 5 12 years later would break the trend on American Sci-fi television. One can only imagine how Space 1999 would have turned out, had CBC not meddled in Harlan Ellison's The Starlost, which might have re-written the rules how sci-fi television in the Angloshpere. Nation probably would have had a much easier time by then.

Doubt theyll bring Blake back . That was the whole reason he agreed to do the final episode if he was to be killed off for good.In some ways the season 3 and 4 endings were good.In the real world the bad guys win sometimes and there arent always happy endings.The Federation was just to big, corrupt, and powerful.The Soviet Union was weak in comparison to the Fed.Servalan is like binLaden u just cant get rid of her.If the Soviets had been like the Fed . the cold war would never had ended.

Series 3 best with crew for that Ker Avon helm of liberator . Series 4 weak bad start kill off of Cally . Wasnt as strong after
