💯 By the late 60’s Marriott was already well known ( particularly in England) from the Small Faces, I’m sure the comparisons were very favorable for both of them. As Steve inspired Terry , I think that might have been reciprocated because I think Steve was inspirers by Terry’s sense of ‘doing his own thing’

As you might or might not be aware, Reid, who had just started his solo career and was being produced by hit maker Mickie Most, was invited by Jimmy Page to join what became Led Zeppelin. He declined but pointed them to Robert Plant. He also declined Deep Purple after the dismissed Rod Evans. They ended up with Ian Gillan. Reid is often described as someone who 'lost out' or made 'poor choices'. Personally, I think that he did the right thing in pursuing his own muse. Yes, it is unfortunate that he remains unknown or just a name to many, but he has made music all through the years and seems to this day to be a very affable chap who loves life. Coincidentally the same could be said about Plant and Gillan. All three came out winners in their own chosen ways.

On October 2, 2020, Jimmy Page's Facebook page posted this text and confirms Terry as his original choice: "On this day in 1966, The Yardbirds played at the Ipswich Gaumont Theatre on The Rolling Stones tour. This was the first time I got to hear Terry Reid who was singing with Peter Jay and the New Jaywalkers. He had an impressive gutsy delivery for a 16 year old and he made a marked impression on me. When The Yardbirds folded in July 1968, he was the first person that sprung to mind."

If I match this group up against Led Zeppelin, I'd say the 2 areas where they fall short are 1. Having the lead singer as the guitar player also....it doesn't allow for wide independence and double headed creativity and interplay 2. This drummer...like most everyone, he doesn't come close to Bonzo

Interesting you say that cause when Jimmy Page wanted Terry Reid to join Zeppelin he wanted Reid to just sing without guitar but Reid would go for that
@jekelly0908
@jekelly0908 7 ай бұрын
For one having a second guitar player adds something sonically to the music. Plus you get that interplay between the two guitar players. Or maybe if Terry joined he puts the guitar down. Who knows? I think Plant is a better singer. But I don’t think it would’ve hurt to have the lead singer play guitar.
