It amazes me that so many people have not grasped the fact that Enoch Burke was in prison because he broke the law. In no way whatsoever was he sent to prison for his religious beliefs or because he refused to identify or refer to a child as “They”. I will stick my neck out here and say that possibly half the country, myself included, agrees with his stance and his comments in this sorry saga. The manner in which he is going about it is the problem. In the early stages of this case, a judge told him he may well have a case in his favour. I believe there is a legal procedure and path to pursue such a case. However, Enoch Burke and his family are having none of it. At this stage, I can’t help but wonder if someone should have called for a psychiatric evaluation for the poor lad early on-if only to save him from himself. Even a judge asked at one point whether he was being controlled, which suggests to me that the judge might have had his own suspicions. Now, if this is all about deeply held religious beliefs and gender identity issues, as many suggest, it still doesn’t explain why other siblings seem to be involved in unrelated dramas. They seem to share a knack for courtroom theatrics-physically wrestling with Gardaí, defying judges, being dragged out of courts, and racking up fines kicking the arse of €200,000 making national headlines in the process. Hi Terry, I'm 68 and struggle to (fully) understand transgenderism, but I also understand the right of all people especially young people to be treated with respect and dignity. If young people are not respected then we are laying poor foundation for the future. You can refer to a group of people in the plural as them or they but not an individual. So I believe the Dept. should revisit this situation? You is both plural and singular and non gender, and should not be contentious? We have separation of Legislator and Judiciary, this is vital to a proper democracy, the Courts apply the law as legislated. Enoch Burke was jailed I believe for trespass? He is in my opinion, attempting to use the courts for political purposes which is not their function or in my opinion appropriate. If he believes the law is not fit for purpose then if he should consider how to campaign for change in a manor most law abiding people would.
@terrygorry7 сағат бұрын
We are in the same boat then. I struggle to understand lots of things to do with sexuality and young people today. But I think, along with the Court of Appeal, that a teacher who is acting in 'loco parentis' to his pupils has a high duty of care. I also think an employee shoud follow the reasonable direction of the employer. I also think that anyone is entitled to enjoy their private property free of trespassers, and they have a constitutional right to do so. I agree with the broad thrust of your comment and believe hubris has a role to play in this employment dispute. For that is all that it is.

Who are you to judge him? God decides whether something is sinful.
@paulinenicoll69177 сағат бұрын
Enoch Burke is in prison for NO SIN, it's not a sin to say to say NO, he refused quite rightly to allow ANYONE to mandate his speech. He's entitled to his opinion, whether or not i agree with it, I will defend to the bitter end his right to voice his opinion. It's called free speech and it's the corner stone of democracy. It goes with freedom of expression, lately there has been attempts by government to curtail both here in Ireland, with our neutrality no longer safe, our government are taking us on a path that the 1916 men and women fought to keep us from. I saw what happened in Coolock to innocent protestors, from a window up high, what i witnessed is nothing short of a disgrace to the Irish flag, what's happening to the WHOLE BURKE FAMILY is also a disgrace to democracy alone. the Bolsheviks would be proud, except we're not under Putin's rule.

This case is not about religious beliefs. It is an employment dispute arising from Burke's behaviour during worship in church in front of pupils and parents. The school deemed his behaviour to be gross misconduct and suspended him. He ignored the suspension. The school secured a barring order and he ignored that. The HC found him in contempt of court and warned him he'd be jailed. It has nothing to do with his views of LGBT people
@appalledpaul54976 сағат бұрын
Religious conviction fails to overturn legal conviction and it won't be the last legal conviction that the Burke's collect on their way to realisation. To be honest, The Burke's still continue to contemptously ignore the Rights of other which has a stark element of the unreal about it, no?

Be fair to your god and admit this fellow - whatever his personal or familial preferences may be (which is immaterial to the case at hand) - is a hard case irremediable malcontent. He is not being forced by society from his personal religious beliefs but from sensible reason and self control in public by himself. Could I appear in someone's church and then return the fellowship by thrashing around in ecstasy and speaking volubly in incoherent tongues which are my beliefs though out the entire service? The contempt law in Ireland is absurd. No judge should have the power to jail a person for the rest of his life for contempt. Many jurisdictions have jury trials for contempt of court. Meanwhile in many violent assault cases with grevious injury, the perp waltzes out of court with a suspended sentence leaving the victim distraught in the court room. As a Catholic, I considder this persecution of the Burke family to be appalling. As for the origin of the story, the use of transgender pronouns, I would not feel as strongly as the Burke`s because I would be less certain of what is right. Jesus told us to love one another. Very often, that is easier said than done but at least it is a simple enough instruction to understand. Is Enoch Burke acting out of love? If so, is he certain he is doing what God wants him to do? Would he do more good by giving everything he has to the poor? Again, not an easy thing to do but at least the poor would get it and not the state and giving to the poor is a simple and definate instruction Jesus gave. There is no ambiguity there. The things Jesus did not give explicit instructions on are not important. If they were, Jesus would have given us the instruction in a way that is simple and not open to interpretation.

Enoch obeyed God and spoke up for the innocent so that the children would grow up in truth. The church hired hands run when the wolf came. We need more sheaprards like the burkes. When one does anything to the weak, you do it to the Lord. When the babies are murdered who God created them in the womb, and how will we answer on judgment day. It is better to speak up now and lose our lives for the kingdom than to allow this evil to perveil. If anyone thinks calling boys girls are anything, they decide what is the point of the country. If we can't protect the innocent we deserve judgment and I only hope the people will stop fearing and speak up and call it out for what it is of the devil and demons. And may they be bound in Ireland in Jesus Christ name. He is coming at the door we better get right as a nation individuals for we don't have long.

LMAO there's a whole load of verses in the Bible that will clearly demonstrate the right of the Court and the wrong of the banshees! The Judge is there named in the paperwork - but if you go after them and harrass them - then it's yourself and your own nature that's on show - not his! Just incase you don't believe me - despite your claim of being a Bible basher - here it is in black and white for ye! :) Romans 13:1-2 says: "Obey the government, for God is the One who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power. So those who refuse to obey the law of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow."
@Fairwater43 минут бұрын
All of this has nothing to do with Jesus. It’s the Old Testament the Burkes cling to. Enoch ‘s mother and father have done a great disservice to their children, they’ve created inflexible & blinkered young people who cannot tolerate difference and get on and function in a secular society.
