My late Father used to breakdown the old wooden ships down the docks as some of it was the North American Red pine and Columbian hardwood that you can't buy today but he build sheds and fencing that still stands today with some of the old brass screwa and brackets that is far better quality than the Chinese crap were forced to buy in all the main outlets so doing the skip diving is well worth it Terry.

Oooh that timber is in really good condition! Too good for a skip. I guess someone is having building work done. We kept all our old timber - the ones that were riddled with woodworm have been designated for the fire, the rest has gone towards other things like ducky runs or the new compost bin sections. Well saved Great Uncle Bulgaria King.

I've only found utter rubbish in skips, lol. Nothing that I could repurpose, sadly.I have bought some great items at car boot sales though- mainly old 'brown' furniture that I have renovated and shabby chic painted. I get them for a song- no body wants itd until I have done them up, and then \i manage to sell them at a good profit. I love the creativity of it, so I have fun too. Planted out my onions yesterday and rest of my ornamental alliums today. Just the broad beans to go now, when i have space free. So many overwintering brassicas. trouble is if I grow them I find it so hard to discard them, ha ha, so my beds are full to the brim. I give away excess harvests to friends, family, neighbours and the local food bank. Happy growing Terry and love o Sandra 🙂

You might be able to grob onto that broken screw with a locking pliers and turn it out. I guess it depends on how much of it is standing proud of the timber.
@terrykingsallotmentgardening6 күн бұрын
@ronyerke9250 as long as I don't damage my tools on it, the screw can stay or be cut out, my grips wouldn't quite reach it without damaging the wood.
@ronyerke92506 күн бұрын
@terrykingsallotmentgardening If you can gouge the wood enough to grip that screw, after it is out, a drill and a dowel can repair it if needed. I just hate leaving metal in salvage wood in case I forget what was left in it. But it's your decision. I'm just offering options to consider.

@terrykingsallotmentgardening3 сағат бұрын
@TheRightPearPlot I only use the ashes from my log burner because I know what when in. Yes treated timber is dangerous when burned, not sure if it would be safe to use on the plot, but it's everyone's own personal opinion that counts.
