Great and inspiring video. We ordered the Standard Range Model Y and as far as i can see, its only a few extra stops on a long road trip. When chosing the standard range, we could also stay under the limit before extra taxes were put on the car + the extra horse powers cost a lot in insurance here in Denmark.

Took my M3 to VN too and used the charging, which was very handy. Rather than using a regular travel adapter, it's recommended to get a specialist adapter designed for the constant high current. Just thought I'd mention that in case anyone watches this and thinks it's a good idea to use a regular one. V interesting to see the braking incidents and that they didn't happen again. I've only had them on AP.

Check your tyres don’t have sound deadening foam inside them or tyreweld might not work. I regularly drive our M3LR from French Pyrenees to England. I leave home with 100% charge, stop at Saintes Supercharger with about 15-20% for about 45mins, then to Nantes Supercharger for a top back up to 80% and some lunch and then the last full charge at Rennes before driving to St Malo ferry. This means I have loads in the battery when I arrive in UK. All Superchargers I use for this journey, are in Hotel car parks and this means leaving the motorways to get to them. The cost of using public chargers means EV charging costs are at parity with petrol and diesel mpg. I can drive the same route in a 1.5 turbo diesel with a full tank.

Excellent and enjoyable video. Appreciate your video editing too. For the Tesla AEB, it seemed too abrupt compared with the way my Model S handles pedestrians in close proximity. In my road trip to "Flying Goose Mountain" with lots of people walking nearby, the proximity alarm went off instead of any emergency braking. Btw, this is a "road trip" in Hong Kong (if you can call it a road trip!). Anyway, thanks for a wonderful video. Subscribed.
@rickontesla2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I’d be interested as to how the Tesla would handle it nowadays (this was filmed 8 months ago) as I think the software has been tweaked to favour proximity warnings too. I get plenty of proximity warning alarms so imagine it’d start with that at least rather than just straight to AEB.

btw, if you have the blue 16A connector for your granny charger it’s possible to get a EU 16A plug to 16A blue socket. This increases the charge rate up from the 2kWh that the GB plug limits you to. Check out caravan cables for a suitable one. Make sure it’s rated for 16A as some are too thin.

Great video quality and editing! I drove my TM3 LR 21 to Lake Como last Summer and had a similarly smooth experience - with free charging. A couple of friendly advices: 1) In the notes on top, I suggest you record your equipment for the benefit of the viewer. Several of us will wonder e.g. what camera and mic etc. were used for the excellent video. 2) The quality is too good to be marred with repeated and not so subtle attempts to get us to engage ("let me know below....") - we get that it increases points and pay, but let the quality speak for itself, and be the magnet, focus and attraction - also; most likely it will be easier to get repeated viewers that way. Again - a friendly advice that might come handy. Wish you and your family the best.

We didn't get any range anxiety, just used the Tesla navigation and predicted battery levels and took breaks on the road trip whilst the car was supercharging. Range is good in warm weather, maybe not 330 miles but at least 250+ miles from a full charge (depending on roads and driving style)

Brilliant video - thinking about doing a very similar trip! Extremely well filmed and edited too :). Did you find many non-Tesla cars charging at the superchargers? Once concern is that due to charge port locations, other cars might need to park sideways across 3 chargers which would mean chargers are listed as available in the Tesla Navigation but are blocked on arrival.

In October, we’ll embark on a more comprehensive trip all the way to Seattle, south to San Francisco, over to Salt Lake City, spend a lot of time in the SouthWest’s amazing national and state parks, then homeward from there: about 10,000 miles. 😄 As a fellow Tesla stockholder, I was saddened to see how high the stock was when you bought in to it-arrgh!😢 Here’s hoping that by mid-2025, it’ll rise once again.

Hi. Great Video. I’m driving to Paris in my Tesla at Christmas. I have a couple of questions… What other stuff do we need to take with us legally? Breathalyser etc? Also, the GB sticker… is it magnetic? Does it affect the paint work at all?
@rickontesla2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Matthew, yes we had to take a breathalyser too but I think that might be being phased out. I got 2 x magnetic GB stickers on Amazon. Got 2 in case someone thought it’d be funny to rip it off. No issues at all with the paint afterwards.
@15bit622 жыл бұрын
The breathalyser is a wonderfully french bit of stupidity. You were legally required to carry it, but there was no prescribed punishment for not doing so. I think the whole thing is history now though. You do need a med kit, triangle, and high vis vests for everyone in the car. You're also technically supposed to have a set of spare bulbs for the lights, but that seems irrelevant for LED lights.

Is that a possible thing and is it decent price or exorbitant ripoff?? (PS Europeans are often challenged when they come to Canada with our distances, If I go visit my Papa who live in the same province as myself (Ontario) our weekend visit is easily 1200 Km- The reverse is true also I discovered when for our Honeymoon in France in2014 with an RV my wife was so surprised that by the time she found out where we were on the Michelin Map, I had passed it 10 minutes before!! I also have a 12 volt refrigerator in the sub trunk, a butane stove, a USB powered faucet for a camping sink and will get a 2 gallon water bag for that and a camping clothes washing bag to do one outfit of laundry each day to air dry. If it goes well I'd like to do the same in Europe and other parts of the world. I was thinking of shipping my Tesla but someone told me that you can rent them throughout Europe for only a couple hundred dollars per week. Do you know anything about that? If that's the case I'll just setup my garage to be able to remotely manage Turo rentals and rent my Tesla on that to offset the rental cost in Europe. In the U.S. I can just go to my nationwide gym to shower (and workout while I'm there). Do you know of any gyms that are all over Europe that would let a foreigner sign up without a contract?
@rickontesla Жыл бұрын
Rentals are fairly economical in the UK/Europe, not sure about Tesla's though if you wanted to rent a Tesla specifically. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to the gym question, most will try and tie you in to 12 month contracts ut you might be able to get a short term roaming pass if you're prepared to pay a bit extra.

And for that time is everything and waiting 40-50mins to charge would effect how we holiday and are enjoyment of taking side adventures to un planned destinations, and ice brings freedom of the unexpected. 6:39 Excellent Tesla tip. Tesla misbehaving? Get the wife to go into "Mom mode" and give the vehicle a good telling off. With perhaps an hour on the naughty step, for good measure.

It's in the video at 17:47 - I had free supercharger miles and just needed a £1.85 supercharge on the way home

Imagine doing it in a Porsche Taycan or similar? Would have been a nightmare.

Except for the part that you’d have actual driving enjoyment with the Porsche, rather than driving an appliance.

1 year old video and GB stickers? Those aren't valid, must have UK stickers or on the number plate now. Although having just got back from a trip ourselves, it seems that many Brits didn't bother to check or didn't think it applied to them.
@rickontesla Жыл бұрын
Just to correct you. The video was uploaded on April 2022 so obviously filmed the summer before ... 2021 when GB stickers were the order of the day.

@@rickontesla Thanks, I did wonder. I still saw plenty of GB stickers or none at all last week so clearly plenty of Brits still aren't aware or don't care about the changes. I will add that we had a fab trip, so relaxing and have already booked one to Italy next year. :)

Why did you have to put a GB on your trunk/boot? Is this a law?
@rickontesla2 жыл бұрын
It used to be but has now changed to a UK sticker .... From 28th September 2021, the distinguishing mark (or national identifier) displayed on vehicles registered in the United Kingdom that are driven abroad will change from GB to UK. From 2nd August 2021, drivers will no longer require an insurance green card for taking their vehicles to France.

@@rickontesla Thanks for your reply . Here in the US in most states we have the option to have on our plates the county we live in. Most people pass because it makes you targets while traveling. To have such a sticker on my trunk/boot screams I'm a tourist come get me. That's not safe imo. I guess that's different cultures. Safe travels

Can anyone advise please...... TESLA Hmmmmmm!!!!! I took ownership of a brand new AWD Model Y on the 23rd of January 2024, and in a little over 2 weeks I have done 560 miles. I don't have a charger at home so I charge at Tesla superchargers at 40p a KW. I go before I start work at 5am when it is the cheapest rate. I did do just over 100 miles of charge at the local shell garge which cost me £26.81 the other 4 superchargers cost me a total of £80.40 thats a whopping £107.21 in 17 days. Does anyone think this is correct or do they think I have an issue with my battery. To be honest the first few day I did put my foot down and have the heating on, some mornng I don't have the heating on at all. I have a 2013 BMW M Sport Diesel and costs me just over £80 to fill it and I would get around 600 miles to a tank of diesel. I regret getting a Tesla now.....

I would argue that coming to a full stop increases risk of getting rear ended. And is using autopilot really necessary in low speed zone?
@acps110 Жыл бұрын
If you turn off Automatic Emergency Braking, the car will turn it back on every time you drive. It is always on, the off button is only for the current drive.

You charged first time when you had 54%? That's gonna be some slow charging. You can easily drive to 10%, or close to that, can't imagine there was not chargers for 44% charge distance... Second charge at 42%? You are talking about charge rate while you charge at way to high a percentage. Charge rate show above 85%, that's also bad charging, charge no higher than 80% and don't charge above 20%. Preferably around 5%, but you can have some margin and charge at 10%. Third charge at 39% to 97%, at least 4 times longer than what you should be doing. You doubled charging time from what you needed at minimum. When charging at V3, there's no influence of other cars charging, you get max charge all the time. Only V2 with A and B are affected to share charge. (V2 has two charging cables and max 150kW rate, V3 has one cable and 250kW rate. V2 shares max range between every A and B duo, so 1A and 1B occupied means you split 150kW. V3 has a lot more capacity and will most likely never see you lose time or much charging speed.) When at V2 charge your charge speed is only affected by the person to either your left or right, if you share the same number and use A and B, so what you are saying doesn't make a lot of sense. If a charge park is fully occupied accept the B next to your A, you get max speed, it's the only thing you should care about. Charging stationary to 100% and leaving car there for hours, better if you don't charge to 100%, but if you do time it so you leave close to fully charged and not leave it there for hours. Fifth charge from 50%, again you talk about charge speed but you start charge at wrong percentage... For somebody wanting to really prepare, you seem to not know certain key things about charging speed, the different Tesla stalls and at what percentage you should charge to what percentages.

Thanks for your comment but I think you might take charging a wee bit more seriously than me 🤣 Personally, I'm not going to try and get my car down to 5% battery whilst on a point to point family road trip. What a disaster it would have been if I'd have run out. I charged at sensible points, for example when we had spare time in the evening at Heathrow so we didn't have to charge the next morning on the way to Dover. All the best 🙂
