I just purchased a brand new model Y - 2024 knowing full well juniper is coming and did not hesitate as Tesla has so many incentives to buy that existing model. It’s a fantastic car as it is - so anybody wanting a great car, as is, will buy the old model Y, and Tesla will use all its levers to make sure that the distance between the old model Y and the new model Y is sufficient not to kill off the Y in the meantime, they know how to do this👍👍👍

90% efficiency with the inevitable low magnetic coupling to the car (due to the large air gap) is well above what I expected as someone who has designed resonant power converters. In one of the Tesla "tear down" videos, they pointed out a connector intended for wireless charging in most newer Teslas. Assuming a subsequent version of 3 and Y with easily removable pedals and steering, they've only the manual door issue to solve for 3+ passenger RoboTaxis. Only needs autoclose, which seems easier, not autoopen. If these are possible field solutions, then I believe the entire vision.

The assumption for wireless charging is that it involves a transformer with the windings separated more than is optimal and an air gap as opposed to a shared laminated iron core, both of which reduce power transfer efficiency. It appears that Tesla may have found/invented a better way to affect a power transfer. I look forward to learning how Tesla achieved efficiencies above 90%.

I’d like to offer some pushback on the robotaxi concept, particularly from the perspective of someone in a semi-rural area-a city with surrounding towns, supporting around 200,000 people. While I’d love to be a "Robotaxi Shepherd," there are some challenges I’d face, and charging is a major one. If wireless charging is the only option, and I have to rely on Tesla’s system, that limits my choices and potentially increases costs. To keep this viable, I’d need to minimize charging expenses while maximizing charging speed. A two-hour charge time would be a significant problem. With a fleet of 10 cars, if each takes two hours to charge, I could only charge them once a day, which severely limits uptime. From what I’ve observed anecdotally, I’ve seen Model 3 Uber drivers needing to charge up to three times a day, so this would be a real concern for fleet operators.

This wireless charging system, you guys do realize 5 to 10 years from now there may be complete roads where this is built in to the roads. That means you never charge again. OK, maybe 20 years from now, but it will probably be for all electric cars. This allows for very small batteries. You would probably just need a very slight charge as you go along. It would just be a charging strip in the road no contact so no problem.

Manufacturing doesn't necessarily go for volume. It's best to have a diverse customer base with lower volume higher profit sales. If you have one huge customer they can demand lower and lower pricing until you are out of business and they move on to the next supplier. I wouldn't even quote a huge Tesla order. I would point them to China or India.
