Cybertruck FSD looks to me like it had to little training data, which kind of make sense. They picked key scenarios from the regular FSD training set by hand and generated the scenarios in their virtual environment with the larger Cybertruck model. This way you can basically use the same scenarios in many cases and use the same checks you had before, to make sure the performance is good. But it looks like the training set was too small. The reason here being, that this is probably a manual task to make sure the scenario is solveable and optimal. So say if there's a small gap to fit through the scenario needs to be adjusted for the larger vehicle by hand, so it can actually fit through. In the virtual environment. Real world data however is probably very limited in this training set, which is to be expected with this small fleet of vehicles.
@aerostorm_Ай бұрын
Yeah this is my interpretation too. FSD is vehicle model dependent and needs a ton of organic data (3&Y) to get to where we see peak intelligence. The simulated/emulated behavior just lowers the information density.

I feel like part of it, just based on my human experience driving my CT, it handles soooo differently than any other car, including other Teslas. And also, the sheer weight of it is tremendous. So that takes a lot of getting used to. I feel like now I am super nimble and smooth driving it, but that took me a month. So if FSD 13 has been trained on mostly other Tesla driving data, it wont map all that well to the CT, but that said over time CT data should go way up and we should see huge improvements. Even my passenger commented on its smoothness and comfort. However, I don't yet have V13 on my model X, so I don't have the comparison that your have. At no time during the three hour drive (alll urban streets) did I feel uncomfortable of noticed it unsure. Maybe a difference of driving expections or preference. With the Cybertruck's "bulk", I found V13 FSD drove better than I. We passed multiple one-way constuctions site and several round-abouts. No complaint here. Thanks for posting. So this version is arguably the best version of FSD I have seen. In my first two drives though; it has hit a curb with a rear wheel duing a left turn AND changed lanes from outside left turn lane to inside left turn lane, cutting off another driver who was almost next to me in the inside lane. Both situations were quite surprising especially given its behavior every where else. I hope everyone stays vigilant! Thanks for the video! Our M3 hw4 LR is really really good by comaparison.

@georgemarengo823Ай бұрын
No, nothing like trying to kill me. It’s hesitation, like Chris sees in his CT. Also not great navigation or even bad navigation. Many trips where I have to go SOUTH on the 5 freeway, the navigation path is CORRECT, but FSD doesn’t follow the nav path and wants to turn on the NORTHBOUND freeway entrance. Or, when going to my local grocery store, the path planner has the QUICKEST route planned, but FSD decides to take the longer route.

@georgemarengo823 Interesting. I did experience the "wrong exit" phenom once. And, inexplicably, they care lurches through stop signs on quiet side streets, but it's perfect on busy boulevards. Except for my heart-stoppers, 99% of problems are nav related, namely erroneous speed limits.

Reporting Back: definitely not like the FSD13 videos on the Y I’ve seen, but certainly an improvement over v12. Much better at picking appropriate speeds and maintaining them, better lane keeping in general but still some occasional drifting to the edge. MUCH better at slowing ahead of time but still sometimes follows too closely when traffic is slowing and stops too close to stopped traffic for my liking. It pulled forward into an angled parking spot at my destination, albeit not within the lines at all (expected since parking isn’t supported yet). It also went into an incorrect turn lane to follow navigation (a pretty obvious error) and had a jittery correction mid-roundabout like V12 but overall much better. The smoothness of coming to a stop and resuming is perhaps the most noticeable improvement.

1:15 She thought it was weird that you stopped. CT's path plan was a normal turn, which would only be a problem if she stepped into the driving lane, same as if this happened while you were going straight now a road. FSD correctly assessed that she very likely did not intend to do so, and was taking the turn slowly enough it could stop if she did. Note that she had already turned her head and was aware you were there making the turn, FSD could see the body language as well, thus reinforcing that she was unlikely to step out (as opposed to, say, if she had her nose buried in a smartphone oblivious to all around her). Put it this way, if you'd been making the turn yourself, would you have stopped? I don't think so. Just take it slow and careful. 6 mph is pretty slow...

If I had to guess, they're probably fine-tuning the model for Cybertruck with much less data and it destroys some of the ability. What you want to do is to parameterize the model for different cars, i.e. the car, or the attributes of the car (size, weight etc) is an input into the model, along side the video stream and route/map data. I wouldn't worry too much, they'll figure out a way to have a single "driver" for all vehicles.
@marcusschou1843Ай бұрын
I Think so too must be due to different camera angels on the cybertruck.
@didierpuzenat7280Ай бұрын
The issue is how much new examples are needed to fine tune, I would say quite a lot since the characteristics of the car impacts many quite different scenarios. It will be a good indicator of the future difficulty for Tesla to launch the Cybercab and even to sell trained models to other brands.
@bear4278Ай бұрын
That makes sense to me with getting too close to stuff etc. (obviously it is bigger than the Y etc.), but not moving from a stop sign and running a red type behaviour is harder for me to explain (I would think the existing data should be usable since the size of the vehicle shouldn’t really matter) 🤷♂️
@didierpuzenat7280Ай бұрын
@@bear4278 If they do not have enough examples (even to fine tune), a solution is to use a model with less parameters and so it will be less efficient on every thing. But of course it is just an hypothesis.
@martindbpАй бұрын
@@didierpuzenat7280 Different camera placement may be the biggest issue unless you have some preprocessing step to normalize them. It may be difficult for the model to generalize over different placements (i.e. be able to handle a new one out of the box), since there are essentially only a few "examples". It's easier to generate data in simulation for lots of different camera placements, that could help, but not ideal.

@RedPowerStationАй бұрын
I wonder if they are testing strategies... theoretically you could attempt to map the Model Y training data to the Cybertruck with a transformation layer either at training of inference. However the physics of both vehicles is so different. This would save on having to gather specific Cybertruck FSD data... however I expect this could be a short term solution until Tesla can get enough Cybertruck specific FSD data for a Cybertruck only model. This could explain the performance differences between CT and Model Y.

I posted this in an individual comment, but since you’re talking about it here, I wanted to also share my perspective as well. Although there is a likelihood of not having a lot of training data for Cybertruck, there is another more technical answer that could also be the case. Having both of the model Y and Cybertruck on the same FSD version, but having them act differently, makes me think that they are adjusting parameters on the neural network. Just like with all AI with end to end neural networks you can change certain parameters once the model has been trained. For example, as a developer you can change a perimeter, called temperature, on ChatGPT that allows the model to be more creative or factual in its responses. I bet Tesla has a similar perimeter for confidence that they can adjust based off of what vehicle they’re putting the same FSD version on.

Chris: Other videos you comment it's okay for a vehicle to sit in the intersection while it's red to complete its turn. Now, at 8:32, you're getting agitated and upset that it's doing what it's legally allowed to do. Personally, IMO, I think you went into this update with a really negative feeling and with a "brace yourself this is going to be bad" mentality. By now, I honestly thought you knew how the FSD is engineered: 1) Test fleets are nowhere near the number of vehicles that M3/Y are on the road. 2) Think about how quick its rollout was to run on a completely different vehicle (dimensions, turning radius, height, etc.) 3) Think of how adaptive this software can be to other auto (legacy) makers lagging behind. If, or perhaps when, FSD allows licencing of their software to run on other brand fleet, the adoption could be exponential. 4) Think about how FSD started. I'm blown away by the fact that CT can simply pick up from v13 and learn. Think how FSD started - dotted lines and all. We take for granted that the Truck wouldn't start from the same baseline. However, imagine if it did. Imagine if FSD was still hardcoded. That would've been our reality. Engineers manually coding software for every new vehicle. It's no doubt that old timers keep saying: Younger generation take things for granted and don't have the patience anymore. Remember the dotted FSD. Realize how far it's come and how the software is able to be so dynamic and adapt to a brand-new model which is only 2 years old. It took the team 3-4 years to get here. CT is accomplishing most in less than 2 years. The reason many of the other features are disabled is obviously for liability purposes and negative posts. If they allowed the CT to reverse when it's not fully ready, then imagine if 3/4 of CTs backed into a car by accident then this would look bad on Tesla. Regardless that customers claim they are aware they're assuming the risk, they would still take to social media to post how their truck backed into a parked vehicle making Tesla look bad in the process.
@joeybagadonuts1206Ай бұрын
I agree with this. One of the great things about V13 on my AI4 S, is that if it getting into the intersection and the light turns yellow...it correctly proceeds through it. It does not stop, hesitate, etc. COMPLETE the maneuver and get through the intersection. Happens all the time in real-world driving. The worst thing you can do is stop / hesitate in the middle of the intersection...the next worst thing you can do is hard brake in an attempt to stop before getting into the intersection.

At 1:15 you had an intervention but, in retrospect, FSD was in the right and your intervention created an awkward situation. If you would've let it cook, then it would have been all good. This seems like a milestone in the software development. If we belive in the promise of the superhuman ability of the software, at some point human interventions will change from being needed to save the software from getting in a crash, to messing up the software and making it come closer to a crash. It seems we're at that point. You may need to make a new category to track. Or maybe start recording negative interventions.

The most annoying issue is with the speed-setting control, the vehicle rarely matches the set speed unless I press the accelerator. However, shortly after, it slows down again. Secondly, it’s been stopping far too close to the car in front when approaching stop signs or traffic lights. I often have to take over because I worry it might hit the vehicle ahead. Third, when making a left turn, the angle feels too sharp, and the rear tire ends up grazing the curb. Lastly, the wipers make a low-pitched "thump" noise, which can be distracting unless you have the music turned up loud enough to drown it out.

Absolutely! I've heard stories of people who started with little to no knowledge but made it out victoriously thanks to Maria Luisa Clare.

I was excited to get 13.2.1 last night on my Cybertruck. Haven't driven with it yet. Not as excited after watching this video.

Give it a try anyway, you may have a better experience. It's been nice to me today lol with one small 0 intervention drive so far

They should call it Version 11 for Cybertruck

im going to guess the driving performance is based on the models drivers. cyber truck probably doesnt have enough feed back on how it should be driven yet

I have a hw3 ModelY on 12.5.4 2 and it drives so much better than my CT on 12.5.5.3. I totally understand your frustration and thanks for being honest in your review.

Been using the FSD 13.2.2.1 for approximately 2 weeks. I am kinda bored now I am not driving at all expect for some disengagements due to navigation.

People don't stop for Model Y but people will stop for cybertruck. Can't blame cybertruck for that. 😂

I saw FSD on Cybertruck park it self on some guys' video on X, so it already can somehow?
@DirtyTeslaАй бұрын
It's just hit or miss. Sometimes it will get lucky, but actual parking support is coming in a future update according to the release notes

I think they have like the confidence turned way down making it much more cautious. I think that's very similar to the way Hardware 3 works as well that the confidence level is turned way down. They are just much more confident that the model y will do what they wanted to do. Cybertruck they're just keeping it overly cautious which sucks.
@ericstromquist9458Ай бұрын
I think because of the different camera positioning and the different dynamics of the vehicle, the Cybertruck needs to be trained on Cybertruck video, and there just isn't as much available as there is for the Y, so the model is undertrained. More training video and more hours of training compute should fix it.

They obviously need more Cybertruck data

Question. If people use fsd for cybertruck, will they get enough good data? I thought they'd use the same data, but use an algorithm for different hardware interfaces....guess not
@kenion2166Ай бұрын
@@appl314 FSD runs in shadow mode if its not active and still collect data in the background
@appl314Ай бұрын
@kenion2166 Yes, but if everyone is using fsd, no human shadow mode data.
@jmendiola222Ай бұрын
Yes, but it's not promising that they can't abstract the form/weight factor and handling of the vehicle from the actual behavior. If they have to "duplicate" all the data from every different model, it wont scale.
@joshcarter-comАй бұрын
@@jmendiola222 that may be part of the trade-off with a machine learning stack; you can’t get in there and start adjusting the model. It’s much more of a “black box” than their prior hand-coded FSD stack.
@AaronMcFarlandАй бұрын
I much prefer truthful which is what your videos share. When I am being told FSD is perfect and then I get the update and it isn't anywhere close to perfect. Keep giving us truthful opinions of FSD. Robotaxi can't make these mistakes if they expect them to drive around without a driver.
@chankaneАй бұрын
I wonder if I should do this in Honolulu.... Just have a feeling that there would be sooo much problems that'll make FSD look super bad....

legally, at a stop traffic light when turning left, you arent supposed to enter the intersection until you you see an upcoming gap, so the the truck is doing it properly...you also made a comment on one of your latest car v13 vids...we humans just like doing illegal things :)
@DirtyTeslaАй бұрын
I hear ya but in this downtown setting you will literally miss every light cycle otherwise. I'm not sure what the answer is. Did you think the move it made was appropriate?
@zeekweeks1723Ай бұрын
@DirtyTesla technically, it wasn't wrong, but since most of us do drive like how you thought it should have handled creeping into the intersection past the stop line, it's a toss up. However, punching it after the light changed yellow, not so much, but that's also debatable, cause that's very human of it .

*How is the ride quality on the Cybertruck if you have driven a ICE truck before and can compare?* *I drive a Maybach and a Lexus IS300, picked Tesla Model Y as our third car - I think the Tesla's ride quality needs a lot of getting used to. I mean, even in small potholes, the suspension seems to hit you pretty sharply.*

Have you adjusted the suspension via the software. It can make it a easier drive.

My guess is there is much less training data for the Cybertruck than the other models, so that is why it’s not as good.

You're not being too negative. There's no reason the behavior should be so much different on the same branch.
