Did the car hit anything in the bottom? Was there any penetration in the front skid plate?

Not to my knowledge, but I didn't really check because I didn't have a flashlight at the time to light up the bottom of the car.

I am thinking, outside temperature wouldn’t have anything to do with the leak. It must have been punctured somewhere.

I had the same issue. My 2022 model 3, which was new, had a clogged pump valve that was faulty and just needed to be replaced. Mine didn't leak coolant, but the Tesla service center said it could have been worse if it overheated. He said coolant loss and charging issues would have been next if left untreated.

I’ve had no problems after 22K miles in Model Y LR. Outside temps do get to 100 while driving, and, likewise battery temp shows 100, but no error messages. I’ve not seen coolant leaks, just A/C condensation puddles on the garage floor. No coolant color to the puddle, I guess I’ll watch that more closely now. Thanks for the video that this can happen.

Probably hit something in the road and broke the radiator or the coolant hose below the subframe. it’s very easy to damage the cool hoses in that car because of where they placed in the car being so low to the ground you can thank Mr. Elon Musk for that.

77,000 miles on my model 3. No problems in LV, Bakersfield and driving through the Mojave desert. It has been a crazy hot summer. I do get the occasional condensation under the car. I’m guessing a broken coolant hose or bad connection.

@jordyworley914 ай бұрын
I had a similar situation driving to Vegas 3 weeks ago. When we stopped at a gas station half to to Vegas from California we noticed a ton of coolant pouring out. I went inside and bought a gallon of coolant for 38$. I put maybe 1/8th of a gallon into the car and kept driving and watching the temp gauge. Everything looked fine, I pulled over to check and then it started pouring out again. I don’t know why but as long as the car was moving and not stopped I don’t think the coolant would pour out of the line.

Yes, the charging system/batteries use coolant to help regulate the battery temperatures. What I didn't know is that the same coolant lines supply all of these same systems. So a breach in the system can impact multiple systems.

I had similar issue though was more cause I had run over debris on the highway that I couldn’t avoid. Debris had severed two coolant hoses that affect the hvac battery. Was bunch of coolant similar to your video leaking all over. I’d guess in your case could be maybe it got too hot with the weather and unfortunately those hoses just didn’t have a good seal on them or it loosened over time plus the heat could be why yours leaked. But yeah in same situation where towed to Tesla service center and it takes forever for them to update the status. How Tesla works they usually replace the entire parts as the repair so is costly. My repair estimate is 15,000 but I just have to pay the insurance deductible. Also the date they give as an estimate of completion is pretty much the completion of the next step and then they update estimates again. It’s a lengthy process with them. Will be glad to get my car back soon it’s been 2 weeks since my incident and me calling them a lot for updates.
@teammikey4 ай бұрын
Wow, thank you for sharing your experience. Do you mind explaining what actual parts had to be replaced that added up to $15k? Is it just me, or Does this sound like a factory/engineering defect? I don't recall any of my previous vehicles having issues with driving over smaller debris (e.g. Small gravel, etc.) that would damage anything under the car.

@@teammikey It’s one of the scarry thing that is holding me back to purchase my first Model Y. There are plastic cooling lines under the front of the car and behind the front wheels. These cooling lines connects to the battery pack via a plastic coupling that is NOT replaceable witout replacing the whole battery pack. They literally mounted / attached the plastic couplings from INSIDE the battery pack. So, you damage one of those 30$ plastic couplings … you are in for a 15k batter pack replacement 😢 If you ask me … this is a huuuge design flaw. Why they didn’t make all the connections to the battery (including those cooling lines couplings) replaceable … is pure insane. To make matters worse the front (and back) skid plate that protects these lines / couplings is …. plastic !😢 Also, behind the front wheels, there is also an elbow coupling connecting the cooling lines to battery … protected by the same PLASTIC covering … sitting really close to the running wheel 😮 So any debris no matter how small, that is able to break the plastic covering … can damage those battery pack plastic couplings really easy. Pure insanity ! I would look into aftermarket metal plates to protect these areas (search youtube)😢

That’s crazy. I’m scheduled for an ac issue too. It doesn’t blow much cold air, at least not as cold cold. 26k mi only. Tesla might change the sensors along w other stuff. Might be a faulty piece that might be covered under your warranty. I just took a couple of trips to Vegas when it hit the 120s temp. My YM didn’t even break a sweat. Well, till a couple of days ago when the ac wasn’t as cold. I was at Baker too. So nice to have that many charge stations. Good luck.

Not surprised at all my early 2023 Mode Y LR was at the Tesla service for small repairs/fixes of factory defects plus finally I got locked out of the vehicle (16volt battery dying) requiring jump starting the vehicle. Two weeks after repair it happened again so after 7 months of ownership 7K miles I had Tesla buy it back. Towards the end of 2023 I got a great offer to buy a new Model Y Performance for a discount and I was hoping things would be better this time but unfortunately 6K miles and car being driven on a hot 100plus degree weather with main battery at 68% it suddenly gave me a warning to "pullover safely car may not restart" and "front drive unit disabled" so now I just can't trust these Fremont built Teslas and have to go through the buyback process again.

Wife and I came into buying a used Tesla a 2016 Model X 75D with low expectations and it hasn't disappointed us yet. Low range? Sure. We expected that. But just plain dying on us? Unacceptable. Just dipping our toes as this is our first electric vehicle and we are seeing if we like it before spending big dollars on a new one. Spending over $100k and having two buy backs or collant failure would sit wrong with me. So we spent $25k and checking things out. Liking it so far.
