M3P owner here. This video does a great job of summing up everything for these cars. To me, for the price, these cars are really hard to beat, even with the introduction of the new 'highland' version M3P. Why's that you may ask? If you can find a good example of the legacy M3P used, you'd be saving thousands compared to the 'highland' version. That to me makes the daily-ability of this legacy version even more enticing for the cheaper cost of entry. Make no mistake, just because this car is no longer the 'latest and greatest', does NOT mean it is all of a sudden a bad car. Don't fall victim to that consumerism mindset. These cars make excellent dailys that only marinate to be better over time with OTA updates and the gas savings. Couple of tips I'll add to potential buyers - 1. Tint, get it. These cars are fishbowls w/o it. I spent $1k on mine professionally installed. 2. PPF, WORTH ITTTT, but if you already have rock chips (waited too long or bought used) that window may have passed for you, depends on the car. 3. Make the uberturbines your winter set w/ good A-S tires and pick up 19" rims w/ 265 wide performance tires for the main set. Kinda spendy, but that's what I would suggest. 4. RPMTesla makes wind/road noise kits for these cars and they work GREAT, highly recommend. 5. If you're considering a suspension upgrade, Ohlins is hands down the brand to go with for coilovers. You can adjust the firmness manually from soft and daily-able all the way up to firm for track driving, AND set the ride height to whatever you please (something the new OEM setup on the 'highland' M3P cannot do). Hope this helps!

regarding the white seats... I actually was driving once and didn't realize I had gotten a small cut on my finger and I got a drop of blood on the white seats. Decided instead of smudging it all over, I'd let it dry and then try to get it off. Once it dried, I just used my finger nail and it came right off like it was never there. Love the white seats!

I have had my Model 3 performance for 2 days now and so far I am very happy. The acceleration just makes a bad day into a good day, the agility is great, the seats are comfortable, and as you mentioned the visibility out the windshield is great. I don't mind a slightly rough ride, it kinda connects me to the road. I'm early 40s maybe in my late 50s MAYBE it would bother me? My only gripes so far are 1) I really miss cooled seats. Even if I get the car cold before I get in, my back and butt get warm. I always run hot. 2) I really do miss buttons. I miss quickly hitting mute on my steering wheel or turning up or down AC without looking. I have navigation voice comms, and I am slowly getting used to voice climate controls but I tried "mute" "Radio off" "music mute" etc and it didn't work. I guess I'm an old man but I do miss the buttons. Not a deal breaker though. 3) No plug for...plugs. WHY!? It has a giant damn battery. Seriously... WHY!? Can anyone explain this one to me? My F150 Lariat had not one but two and I used them all the time. When I had a lot of downtime at work I could plug in my laptop and play computer games. I have a big pet lizard (tegu) and I could plug in his heated bed when I took him on trips. However, 52k before tax for a 3.2 sec - 60 car that handles well, looks good, and my monthly payments are what my V8 F150 cost me in gas each month. Pretty happy.

If you ever decide to downsize to 19’s or even 18’s, the suspension “roughness” will get a lot smoother. The P comes with suuuuper skinny tires, which means they arent absorbing hardly any shock from the road

Others say, however, that with those rims there are more frequent injuries if, for example, you drive over potholes. The tires themselves are thinner, which is probably the reason. And if you need to change the rims, it won't be cheap

Matt, I'm currently looking at an entire wheel swap (rim + tires) due to the 20" that come with the performance. I owned a LR through the winter last year and the stock wheels did just fine (18" aeros on all season MXM4) though I'd bet that Colorado winter is a lot worse than Kentucky winter haha. If you're looking for a true winter tire, i've hear really good things about Nokian Tyres.

The rims also could be sticking out from the tire for a performance reason, a little stretch of a tire makes the steering more sharp and direct with more playful handling. If they were square set the handling would feel more mushy, and if the tires were oversized the mushiness would be more pronounced and the car overall would be less athletic.
@racekar80

Stretched or stances tires on rims are never good, the first thing I noticed is the rear tires on my performance Y are too narrow for the rims. The sidewalls should always be either parallel or lean in towards the rim.

@JremiahJones
@JremiahJones Жыл бұрын
The outside portion of the wheel is a tad more convex compared to the entire wheel which slightly concave, though closer to flat. In all reality the shape of the wheel isn't really the problem, it's the tire size. The performance used to come on 8.5 wheels with a 235 tire but when Tesla introduced the Ubers, which are 9s, they kept the same 235 tire. Essentially stretching them.

I have looked at some of the options that Tesla's provide when ordering - I looked at the model Y - Looks like black seats are standard no charge. Body colors anything other than White - are a 1000 dollars optional cost or a little bit more. For a 55-70 thousand dollar vehicle, you would think they would put more detail in front grille and rear view looks - at least for the performance models. But that is Tesla for ya, keep it cheap looking. Still not a fan of the interior dashboard looks to a Tesla. I don't hate it, but to me it looks like nothing more than a computer on wheels with a large display on center dash and very few control buttons on the dash. You have to go wondering through all their menus on display to do everything - which I feel would be kind of a pain while driving. Tesla Charging cables we have to pay extra for any of the 2 choices where other EV vehicles provide at least the 120 volt charger cable standard - no charge. Tesla's are great EV vehicles and assume they perform very well, but what we have to pay for them and what we physically get, the cars should be cheaper in pricings (paying for the performance and software features). I do like Tesla ordering system and don't have to go through the shifty dealerships of other manufacturers. There are no markups or illegal fees with Tesla vehicles - what we see in the order pages are the only pricings that need to be paid. Thanks for the video and take care.

Martin, oh yeah tint is 100% needed. These cars are essentially fishbowls without it. PPF on the other hand is a more difficult decision. My rule with PPF is as long as it's under 5% of the car value, good professional install, and you actually care about the paint then go for it.

New M3P owner (4 months ownership). I PPF'd the whole front of mine, and am scheduled for tint in the next month. Wasn't too sold on tint initially as I've owned numerous other cars in the past that never had tint and it never bothered me. This car, however, gets warm. Real warm w/o tint. We're talking interior temps of 80-90 degrees F on a 55-60 degree cloudy day here in Oregon. Plus, with how good the visibility is from the inside, it unfortunately means visibility for onlookers on the outside is also very good, so w/o tint privacy is not really a thing with these cars. I definitely have felt the weight of some people looking in at me a lot more than I would have expected, be it at a stop light, superchargers, sitting in my car talking on the phone, etc. etc. The PPF was an EXCELLENT decision. The comments from existing owners about the paint being soft on these cars is TRUE. To me, it was an investment as the amount of rock chips and scratches I saved on my car will absolutely make my car stand out someday when I go to sell it. It's an easy way to help contribute your car to being in that 'excellent condition' bracket when reselling. Long post, apologies, but happy to share my experience if it can help someone out. Tint + PPF, to me, are excellent choices on these cars.
