Tesla Model 3 RWD Fog lights - detailed installation

Having fog lights in any of my vehicles is something that if possible, I always try to get it done. This time was with the 2023 Model 3 RWD. This trim doesn't have fog lights from factory, even though the wiring is fog light ready, the vehicle is software restricted for fog lights. This method allows you to install fog lights without tapping into the OEM wiring, keeping the installation clean and easy. It can be reverse within minutes if needed.
Aftermarket fog lights come in different design and layout. I went with the OEM design. You can find it in many online seller such as ebay, amazon or aliexpress. The headlight adapter is available only via Aliexpress.

@@kaimanson3174 thank you for the reply. While this seems straight forward thanks to your video and this harness I already bought I still think if I can somehow manage to make the fog lights switchable. Maybe with a small remote but I am not so Firm in electronics.

@@jonathan5354 great idea, it can be done but it will require tap into the amber light wire as an option and run wires to the inside cabin, I really like to keep my cars as OEM as possible while making them stand out/look different. Sad, is that the only thing blocking us out of the stock switch is a software.

Thanks for sharing the video. If you looked at something like the S3xy knob/button to see if it can control the fogs?

No problem, happy to help 👍. That would be a great idea. If the maker of the knob/button can create a smart adapter that can trigger a relay on/off to be able to control the fog lights then that would be possible, the adapter available nowadays is basically splitting the power that is going into the headlight to the fog light.

Great video super detail and informative. I want to try it myself but upon searching for fog lights how did you make sure the OEM you purchased had the actual lights working as opposed to the rwd variant which does not?

Great question, the set I bought were aftermarket...maybe in the future I will get an OEM set. I made sure the eBay listing showed fog lights were included. The RWD version has a blank cover.

Why do you use aftermarket fog lights? This “harness kit” will not work with the OEM fog lights?

I used an aftermarket set. It will sure work with the OEM lights, that was my idea initially, but couldn't find a set for a good price.

If you put the headlights in auto and the headlights are off (during daylight) is the fog light and led strip on? just the led strip? Or neither?

@@LakeHome-n4j great question. Yes the led strip stays on while on DRL. Once the headlight comes on (low/high beam, even flashing your headlights) the fog lights will come on.

Nice! I ordered the same puddle lights after watching your video. When you ordered the headlight plug from aliexpress did you have to order a qty of 2 to get two plugs or did you order qty of 1 and it came with two?

Hey, I own a 2023 model 3 and was wondering if I use the harness with the stock fog lights will they work? or they dummy fog lights?. your reply would help me a lot!

Sadly the stock fog lights in the RWD are dummy lights. Once you remove them you will see a black cover where the led bulb should be. You need to get the harness and a set of aftermarket or OEM fog lights. Any questions let me know, happy to help 👍

@@MrunalChowdaryKosaraju go for it, I'm here to help. The process is really straight forward, these cars are really like a computer. Plug and play most of the time. Let me know if you have any questions in the process. You can practice while at home, remove the cover as shown in the video and see where everything is located and then put it back on. I usually do this when doing something new in the car.

Wait so I have a 2024 Model y rwd. I am installing aftermarket fog-lights, My fog light has a black cover but has a led on amber. I was planning on splicing that wire into the positive for the fog light. Would this work?

@@mtom9267 Model Y it should work as well. It shares the same fog lights as the model 3.

It should work, they share the same headlight and fog lights as well. Connectors are the same. I didn't know, the MY RWD didn't come with fog lights. Any questions let me know 👍

Correct....the OEM harness that goes into the Headlight goes into the adapter (input), the adapter has two wire harnesses on the other side (output)..one continues to the headlight itself, and the second one to the fog light. The OEM harness going into the fog light is left covered somewhere in the bay.
