Installation:
Start by measuring how much fiber you will need for the dash. Leave a few inches extra towards one of the sides for connection. Then, go ahead and cut the fiber at that location. Again, before cutting the fiber, make sure you have enough for the dash and a little bit left over for connection. Go ahead and apply the 3M adhesive on the fiber for the entire length of the fiber. You don’t have to put adhesive on extra length. Now remove the adhesive cover and stick the fiber on top of the air vent opening. Press firmly to make sure the adhesive sticks on the entire length of the fiber. Rather than removing the adhesive cover entirely in the beginning, I find it easier to peel the cover as I install the fiber.
Grab a plastic pry tool that came with the kit and remove this side dash panel. Remove this side door panel as well. Cut the fiber so only the small tube portion is exposed so we can put it on the connector assembly. Do this for the extra length we left earlier. Insert this extra fiber through the hole on the top dash bracket. If you have a 2020 or older Model 3, this clip comes out, for the newer ones you can still fish the wire through this area.
Grab these cables with the metal head at the end. These cables have varying lengths. There are 3 short ones and two long ones. Grab one of the very long one for this next part. Insert the fiber inside the metal head and once fully fed in, go ahead and tighten the plastic screw. You can also use the small screwdriver that came with the kit for this part. Feed the other end through the existing wire harness and we will rout the cable through the door sill panel. You can insert the cable between this weather stripping and the door sill panel. Once you reach this area where the two door sill panels meet, you can simply reach under the panel and pop it open. Then, you can insert the cable through the panel and we will fish this cable through the cutout on the carpet. We have already done multiple installations and routed the cable through this cutout. Once the cable has been routed through the door sill panel, go ahead and push the panel to secure it. You can then reach under the front seat from the back and fish the cable through. We will route the cable through this carpet opening and rout it all the way to the center console. As you can see, it tucks in really well and we have the cable successfully routed to the top. Now go ahead and close the side dash panel and the door panel we removed earlier.
Let’s move to the seats now. We will have to insert this fiber all through the back opening of the seats and there is a large opening on the back. Keep in mind I have carbon fiber protectors installed and yours will just have a plastic tab here. Insert the fiber starting with the bottom part of the seat and this is just for measurement. Route the fiber all around the seat back and get a measurement of how much fiber you will need. You can take it all the way to the other end of the seat back. Go ahead and cut the fiber.
The central console fiber run is very similar. First measure the length of fiber needed for both sides of the central console. You can insert the fiber in this space at the edge of the center console. Make your way around from the top to the bottom on both sides. At end, cut the fiber so only the tube goes inside the center console for connection. Make those two connections exactly like how we connected the other fibers.
Now time to connect everything together, we are almost done. Connect the other end of all 5 fiber connectors to the main harness. Then we will just drop that wire ball inside the center console. You can then plug the 12V adapter to the car. It has a little switch on the top to turn the light on and off. Then plug the main cable harness the power adapter.
