It didn’t get kicked out because it’s a tesla… it got kicked out because if your car runs a certain time that’s “too fast” you are required to have a roll cage but track guidelines, any car there that’s “too fast” without a roll cage would get kicked out as well…

There are tiered levels of safety requirements depending on your speed at tracks, and for good reason. The tech inspector is supposed to ask what you estimate your cars speed will be. Your answer depends on what safety requirements need to be properly installed on the car. If you break into the next speed bracket you will be done racing at that track until you upgrade your car with the proper equipment.

I'm pretty sure on your ticket for entry, it states by purchasing your ticket you waive any rights for compensation if anything happened to you in the way of a car crashing and possibly killing you as a spectator. I know that exists here in Australia. Correct me if I am wrong. So if your rights are non existent as a spectator. Shouldn't it be the same as a driver once you sign up on entry of your race car no matter how fast it goes. I mean your car could lose control and crash even if it were a 11 second car. Right? I guess at the end of the day, you are at a race track. You are taking a risk just being there. What difference does it make if your car goes 11secs or 7 secs. More and more new cars are running some big numbers. I don't think it's fair to demand a driver to install a roll cage in his very expensive super car or a plaid because he might want to take it down to the race track once or twice a year. Can you imagine how ridiculous a Lambo would look with a roll cage in it. It's hard enough to squeeze yourself into one as it is let a alone with a full roll cage. These rules need to change. That's my two cents worth.

About 60 years ago my buddy had a '57 Ford, but no seat-belts were in it, and they were required to be allowed to race the car. So we took some out of a wrecked vehicle and he would just lay them across his lap to make it look like he had them installed. I don't think there was a way to mount them in his car. I drove a Model S years ago, but took it easy. The salesman drove it, put it in Launch mode and Ludicrous mode, and took off. My head slammed against the seat, knocked my glasses back over my head, and my back hurt for weeks. That was in 2016, so I can only imagine how powerful they are today.

Chances are if something bad happened it will be the family of the driver who will make lawsuit against the race track for not enforcing safety rules.

That makes ZERO sense for the race track to require a roll-cage on a Tesla... they literally NEVER roll-over, since most of their weight is at the bottom of the vehicle. Also, even if you could get a Tesla to roll over (which they have never been able to do in any crash tests), they are built so strong, the driver would still be fine. It seems they are still trying to force outdated standards onto a modern-day (performance) EV, instead of simply updating their standards to account for a newer generation of motor vehicles.

The tracks I've run on require a lot of safety equipment (roll cage) if you run faster than certain times depending on track . If you ran under 9 second 1/8 mile you had to have a cage at a racing thing set up by San Diego police years ago called "race legal" at the stadium to pull in street racers and it was really a lot of fun , I built a 93 3000GT VR4 and a 98 Trans Am for the fun .

This is why street racing will make a resurgence.. and private track construction needs to become a common profitable business. Never been a fan of drag strips... you spend your entire day and night and get a couple, maybe 3 runs if you're lucky.... I can run 130-165 on the hwy every single day during certain hours... and its as smooth and perfect a surface as youll ever find at any drag strip. You can even stop on the hwy and pull a legit run against another car or just run against the stopwatch.... Tracks and all the rules and cost are BS and such a waste.

Well, title is kinda misleading by omission, but it's still funny tho. He got kicked out because insurance policies require the car to have a rollcage and a bunch of other stuff and/or the driver to have a professional driver license, to go faster than a predetermined time at the track. It's understandable since they'd rather kick you out than have to deal with the NHRA, who certifies them, breathing down their necks for not enforcing said insurance policies. It's an ironic situation created by the fact that the NHRA thinks a production car with no extra safety features is not safe enough to go down the track that fast.

It's a pretty misleading title though. It insinuates that he got kicked out bc other people were butthurt about being beat by a tesla but in reality he didn't have the proper safety equipment. Even VW buggies need to have a roll cage installed amongst other things. They can't even say "If you die you die" though because they would actually be in deep shit with insurance and would lose a whole lot of money if this troglodyte died and he didn't have a roll cage (if he died with a roll cage then they would not be (as) liable).

This rule they have is warranted for gas operated vehicles, particularly modified ones. But for electrical vehicles, especially ones default with regenerative breaking and no upgrades, this rule need not apply as the safety concerns already addressed by manufacturer. Tesla should sell safety certificates, to be shown to track insurers certifying handling reliability on a straight road with max acceleration for drag race and safety mitigation if any, on faults.
