For those who are curious re the SR LFP - I have a 60kwh model and did this test in Australia, outside temp was 19 Celsius and dry, 18” Michelin Pilot Sport 4 at 45 PSI with aero covers. I managed 248miles (400 km) from 100% - 0%. Driving speed averaged 60mph over the journey. Also worth noting that the LFP M3 isn’t that much lighter than the LR due to the heavier battery chemistry - I think there is only 100kg difference now on the bigger 60Kwh SR M3
@RSEV2 жыл бұрын
Great info. Love the LFP. How much did car say was used kWh ?

@@contactluke80 I have the same LFP single motor model Y here in China and so far the overall average consumption is 112Wh/km. I think the key takeaway from this is the degree of warning that you get before you are stuck. You got the warning about known chargers, you got zero estimated range, you even got a pull over now before if crashed completely. It is also worth noting that you could recover with power from literally anywhere. It is also good go know that you need to protect the 12V battery. I had a hybrid that had a standard ICE battery which is wholly unsuited to the use profile it saw as it never saw a high current draw and was held at the float level all the time. I was quite embarrassing when that died and I needed a jump.

@nettlesoup2 жыл бұрын
In the Tesla manual they advise against towing with motor-driven wheels on the ground. In reality, if you do it while the car is on and in Drive, and only for a short distance, then as far as the car's concerned, it's no different to driving down a big mountain with regen all the way. By keeping the speed low (< 30 mph) and limiting the regen distance, you should prevent damage but obviously I'm just a random commenter so it's just my opinion, do your research, etc! Worth bearing in mind that when the Now You Know team's Model 3 won the Pike's Peak Hill challenge for their class, the only way they could charge the car every day (since their mobile battery charging supplier pulled out) was to tow it up and down sections of the track while regen charged the battery up!

Interesting - drove a Y LR couple weeks ago from Tesla Chester and the ride was utterly horrendous, crashing over the smallest of imperfections on the road surface. Didnt feel right and wondered whether they'd simply not bothered to reduce the extra high pressure they stick in the tyres while shipping them. In Brum last at a gig so popped into the local Tesla centre this morning - again drove a Y LR which had the recommended pressures for daily use. Chalk and cheese - roads much much worse than around Chester and it rode beautifully, deliberately searching out the poorer bits of tarmac and it was more than acceptable. So if any of you try a Tesla test get them to confirm the tyre pressures pre-drive. Bottom line is it beings the Y right back into the picture for me

@ManfredvonHolstein Жыл бұрын
Nice test but I don’t believe the power consumption figures that the Teslas report. When I keep track of how much power I put into a Model Y by what the chargers say they put in and compare that to what the car reports, I get a whopping 20% difference. Some of this will be charging losses but they cannot possibly be as high as 20% when charging at fast DC and fast AC rates. So the car is deliberately underreporting consumption. The batteries are therefore also likely somewhat larger than what you think they are, in terms of usuable capacity. Tesla is deliberately not reporting battery sizes so it becomes harder to monitor actual vs reported consumption.

I have a 2021 3 LR Dual Motor. It is our third EV in a row and I’m considering returning to a diesel or petrol engined car. I understand that things are (still) moving towards EVs and H2 but right now, but because there is no real agreement to vastly increase charging infrastructure (ratio of 150kW and faster chargers to EVs is?) and because manufacturers still think we all care about how much more angular our headlights and boot lids are, how to make basic functions inaccessible, 0-60/100kmph and software gimmicks in order to justify not investing in better battery technology, I’m considering buying a much cheaper car and spending the savings on fuel over many years. Here in France we get €6000 state supplement and then whatever the dealer wants to contribute on new purchases. A Hyundai EV5 would attract €10,000 discount but would still be around €40k to buy! Think of all the diesel and petrol cars that can be bought for €30-35k and even with the current cost of fuel, how many tank fulls that would be .

But you have the financial choice [by the sound of it] to drive an emissions free car and promote a better future. So do that. Enjoyed this video, thank you for doing the things we shouldn't. Useful tips should anybody find themselves in this unfortunate position.

Very good to know what actually happens. So many cars have different levels of millage after they hit zero, and also behave slightly differently (Mat Watson from car wow has tried this with a few cars which is where I saw this). Impressive in actual millage capability on both cars………

I was in the polestar until it died in that video with mat watson. Polestar is far more gradual and predictable at the end which was better really, albeit far less range

Great video. Do you know how many miles you ended up covering after 'You must charge' warning and after hitting 0%? Useful to get an estimate of how negative you can go, -3%, -5%? Mark

It’s in there but I did 14 miles after 0% About -4%/5% or 3 kWh
