Ryan, I took delivery of my 2021 Model Y LR three weeks ago and was very pleased to discover that the build quality was flawless. Before I left the dealership, I looked it over from front to back and top to bottom and did not find one thing that alerted me in any way. After 3 weeks of driving it, nothing has changed. It is easily the best car I've ever owned, and I've had Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, and Lexus. It isn't the most luxurious, and it isn't the most comfortable ride, but it is by far the best vehicle as a whole. It's also way faster than my M3 was, and that's saying something. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I bought my Model Y in large part because of your KZbin channel. Thank you and keep posting.

I've owned the MY for 2 months. I have the 19 inch wheels and even with those, the ride is excessively firm. Also, autopilot doesn't work on the very winding mountain road in the Bay Area where I live, but I expect it to improve over time. I've had none of the issues reported about the earlier builds (panel gaps, rattles, etc.). Overall I love the car. Will never go back to an ICE vehicle.

Charlottesville to Douglas GA, new model Y. Fully agree on the suspension. Trip - stay 2 days, driving 30-40 miles each day around Douglas and then returning. I can certainly get there, but the problem is getting back. No destination charging at any hotel. It is possible, but just too risky Nearest supercharger or charger of any type is > 1 hour away. Not even a 120V place to plug in and I called the hotels. Maybe I could find a welding shop with a 240V plug... I don't think it's fully possible YET to ditch my other ICE car. A year or two more? Maybe.

For the supercharger network use the taper charge cycle for the entire trip, meaning you charge until the charge start to slow then unplug it then go to the next charger and repeat the process. Look at out of spec motoring for the premise of taper charge cycle.

Great full review. My only beef and you’ve done this before: Model 3’s are not ‘luxury cars.’ Did the research before I bought mine last year: the average new car was $36.5k - so if someone had the self-control not to add $10k of upgrades it’s only slightly more.

Tesla is defined as a luxury brand according to most internet sources.their cars are premium.model 3 base price is 35k but you wont find one with that kind of money(unless you go used or ask off menu)since they go around 45k to 50k when optioned out :)

Thanks Ryan for the updated review. My current 2018 Subaru has a feature with which I can push a button on the steering wheel and then speak a command from a fairly complete list. For example I can call someone on the phone as long as my phone is cabled to the car via USB or I can "navigate" to some location. I'd like to see Tesla add this kind of feature to reduce the number of times my attention is diverted from the road to pick out an icon on the screen. The Subaru feature set, called "insight" or something like that is on a number of other car makes as well. Cheers, S.

EPA range estimates are not necessarily optimistic: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX2pnJJnirSSbKM kzbin.info/www/bejne/l4utk5SVpLObipY In short, the EPA allows a manufacturer to perform a comparatively-cursory calculation, and then derate that number by a standardized factor, or they can do much-more-extensive testing without a derating factor applied. Tesla’s does the more-extensive testing, so they are, largely, over-optimistic. The main consideration here is speed: You will get a considerably lower range traveling at 75-80MPH than at 60-65MPH. HVAC is not as significant as it used to be if you have a heat pump.

The model 3 is sportier slightly better handling and more efficient. The model Y is roomier getting in and out, massive amounts of storage -good handling- slightly SUV ride. The trunk in the model 3 is very large but fitting two mountain bikes inside the back is for model Y. Aside from that they are very similar-both awesome cars. I would get both, perfect for family is one of each. The performance is unnecessary for either model unless 1 sec more accelerations worth 10k each-not for me.
@Deh_Erick
@Deh_Erick 3 жыл бұрын
@@defaultname19315 If I had to guess, I'd say its a design issue that wasn't corrected because of poor sealing placement. In my car, the sloped rear windshield causes water to quickly slide down and ends up rapidly accumulating between the glass and the weather striping until that area overflows into the trunk storage.

My husband and I bought a used Model S in April 2019 after trying out a Model 3 and Model S on Turo. We then made the jump to ALL ELECTRIC in September of last year when we sold our Maxima and leased a LR Model Y, same build as yours (Red/Black Interior/20 inch wheels/FSD). We haven't regretted it a minute! I even took a long-ish road trip by myself last November (Nashville to Little Rock) and it wasn't too bad at all. We had installed the outlet for faster home charging after getting our Model S, and now we just use that one charger to charge both of the cars at home. We can get a full charge on the MY in about six hours, for less than $6! Also - I totally agree on the rougher ride, especially coming from a Model S with the Smart Suspension, but I LOVE the easy entry/exit and riding higher in the Model Y.

I am so glad that "very picky Ryan" (which we have seen from time to time discussing the Y) didn't show up for this one-year review, and that it is very fair, complete, balanced, and quite positive in it's overall conclusions. (We have been enjoying our Y (with standard wheels) since early last June--an early model by east-coast standards--and can say that the minuses are OVERWHELMINGLY overshadowed by the pluses of the car: it is a pleasure to own and to ride in, especially when environmental considerations are part of the analysis.)

Your phone's NFC works as the key card. You don't have to open the app. You can unlock the phone and tap the B pillar locking area, the same way as using the key card. For me this is mostly not useful but can be handy on very specific occasions.

Very well review all things considered. I am a new Tesla MY owner (2+ months) and can relate to most of what you said. Maybe too early as I still love it very much so at this point, yes I would buy it again and no, not picking up the FSD option, at least not on all the Tesla I will own.

I will disagree with the stop light and stop sign recognition isn't very useful at the current time. I use it all the time and it is usually pretty accurate, maybe that one intersection out of 50 it struggles. After you drive a loaner Tesla without FSD, you definitely discover how much you miss and use it in your own Tesla. Great video though, other than that one item.

Ride might be a little stiff, but the performance in turns is way, way, way better than all those other smoother riding cars, and the reason for this IS the stiffer suspension. It’s takes turns like a nice bmw sport sedan.

I bought a Model Y in September and bought Enhanced Auto Pilot before the end of the year for $4k. It seems to come with everything Full Self Drive comes with other than not stopping at traffic lights. Paying $6k more for it to stop at lights seems ridiculous. I can always upgrade to Full Self Drive if it ever releases.

I disagree with your statement about Tesla improving their vehicles after the first release. My 2021 Model X is horrid, and after having a Model 3 I wish I kept my Model 3. My autopilot FSD has tried to kill me a couple of times. not worth 10K. Superchargers are the only reason to buy a Tesla. It is very good network and now a days only takes 20 minutes. Oh and to boot. horrid service departments, and bad attitudes from their teenager service people.

Great video, as always. I’ve been waiting for my model Y for almost 2 years, (LR RWD -LOL). So, I rented a Y on TURO for four days. I loved it. Except the hard, bumpy, jarring ride. Worse than any car I’ve owned, except the BMW i3. And certainly worse than any $50,000 car I’ve ever sat in. I love Tesla. Love. Any thoughts or advice on how to sell this to my wife?

Love your reviews! Hubby bought a Model 3 and I find all sorts of excuses to drive his car instead of my new Lexus. We ended up taking a road trip from WA to Las Vegas in his car and had so much fun that we did it 3X! Love the responsive speed, sound system and the Model 3's low center of gravity in the curves. We haven't had any issues with this car. Tesla made driving fun again.

Having heard so many people complaint about the stiff ride, I test drove a LR with 20 wheels. It felt sporty and nice to me; of course, most of my previous vehicles have been Honda/Acura, which are not known for softly tuned suspensions. I have LR with 19 wheel on order.

Ryan, I don't know what kind of a channel you have to communicate with Tesla, but I am hoping you could pass along a suggestion. The Model Y has a nice audio system (not great) but very enjoyable. It has a short coming that could be addressed with a software change. You may be old enough to remember audio receivers (a combination radio and tuner/amplifier for a stereo system). Because of the inherent power curve in these devices, they never sounded as good at a low volume as they did at a higher volume. It takes a disproportionate amount of power to make the high and low spectrum adequately and appropriately balance in volume. So on the receivers they would have a loudness button or boost button that altered the internal equalizer to raise the volume on the ends of the sound spectrum. I think it would be great for Tesla to put a button on the equalizer that would boost the volume on the low and high spectrum and low volumes. What do you think?

if i put 2 car seat in the second row, can i still get in to the third row? also have enough space to put 2 strollers? i mostly travel with a 2yrs old and a new born.
@YeLloE-wv1lz
@YeLloE-wv1lz 3 жыл бұрын
Depends. You need to push up the front seat all the way up so that you have enough room for the 2nd row (right side) to push forward and then up with the car seat attached. That being said, make sure you install it via latch if possible. The seat belt installation makes it difficult to get into the 3rd row due to the seat belt itself being in the way. Hope this helps. The middle seat (if you're thinking about sticking the 2nd car seat there) is attached to the left side. They both move together. Entry overall is easier from the left side but 2 car seats make it more difficult however, there's many ways to install the car seats. Just got to find what works for you but it is possible. I tried it. 2 strollers will be dependent on what kind you have. I have uppababy vista and I had to stick it vertically inside the understorage so it's standing straight up. two smaller umbrellas would fit just fine but if you've got a monster like the uppababy vista, you're only going to be able to fit 1.

When your driving under bridges or signs, Tesla sees it as a solid object and slows down but with experience knows it can drive under it Also I heard of a story where Tesla crashed into a truck that was rolled over because it was solid and thought it was a sign or something so Tesla thought it could drive under it and in those situations you should take over

I owned my Model 3 for a year exactly. Verdict? Drives beautiful, but it's boring as F*. Tesla seriously needs to pay more emphasis to interior, such as interior lights and rear passenger control panel to living things up. Already considering changing for something more fun

One should not be on the road for several hours, without taking a break for 30 minutes. This is Safety, not for you, but for all people around. I like that charging takes like 40 minutes and costs 8$, instead of gasoline for 80$. We live in a world that's full of stress it's not good to be driving for 5 hours straight

Hi Ryan...since you mention the global chip shortage and how Tesla moved to new semiconductor chips and microcontrollers, are you aware the delays in releasing the newly manufactured model Y/3 are on hold as Tesla doesn’t have the firmware for these chips yet? My model Y along with 40+ others that were manufactured at end of April, are sitting on the lot at my local Tesla store, because Tesla will not let these vehicles be delivered since firmware is not ready.
