VW's transition to a model where they retain ownership of their fleet is ominous for legacy auto companies and possibly fatal for dealerships. EV owning NZer here. Lars isn’t presenting all the info. One reason the recently elected right wing govt dropped the tax rebates on EVs was because the rebates were too popular (a lot more than had been budgeted for). The EV road user tax was always going to be implemented as the previous govt had planned it. Petrol cars pay through fuel tax but in 2027 all vehicles will move to road a user tax model so it should be directly comparable then. These policies had been seeding exercises to get EVs into the economy and you might say thaey have served that purpose. Remember, Elon is not in favour of any subsidies. Note: I did not vote for this govt.
@wolfgangpreier91602 ай бұрын
@@TimTheSandmanNZ We do not have tax rebates in Austria. We just do not pay CO2 taxes on EVs that is all. Privateers get a additional incentive from the state. We company users do not get anything. We all have to pay road taxes for the highways. I personally recommend 1 Eurocent/ton and km driven on ANY road for EVERY vehicle. That would be fair for everybody. Everybody must pay taxes for electricity. Fossils pay 51% taxes, for electricty it is 21,8%
@johnwilson57432 ай бұрын
@@TimTheSandmanNZ Excellent. (Kiwi here) Yes, it makes sense that BEV;s pay RUC's since a tax is levied on Petrol for Road repairs/maintenance. The amount charged versus ICE/Diesal could be currently debated. But as you stated, that was always going to happen. I thought our Government (whichever Party/ies) would be doing all it can to wean off our dependance on Oil Imports. Given that Hydro provides around 80-85% of our Electricity, we should make full use of it. Apparently not! LOL This just reflects the short sighted approach of our Political Parties. All of these geofenced companies, are the antithesis of autonomy. And as you stated, none of these companies driverless taxis are scalable. As a driver assistance system, FSD is close to being ready. If a person needs to become involved, the person in the driver's seat should be able to take over; this is totally scalable. As a robotaxi, FSD V12.5.1.5 is years away from being ready. While I can’t disagree that there are chargers in the Midwest if you look across that northern area, there’s a lot of infrastructure that needs to be built in South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming even Wisconsin in Minnesota in the northern half, etc. The town that I live in doesn’t have electric chargers at all available public or private at facilities. Yes, you can charge at home but the electrical grid, especially in the co-op which is the electrical outside the town most areas don’t have the electrical grid infrastructure to handle all the electrical requirements for a 200 V system most homes are 100 amp to 150 amp and need to be upgraded to 200 amp in order for them to charge efficiently at home otherwise they’re stuck to 120 at 100 A with a few that still have the old system that’s less than 100 Amps So I guess what I’m saying is some need the infrastructure of not at home charging in order to make it work for them.

Owning a car costs at least 250-300 $ a month, even for a used car. Payments for the credit or you have to save money for buying a new car when the old one is scrap. Insurance, car taxes. Costs for a garage or a place to park the car when not in use. Maintenance, tyres. And then you have not driven a single mile. For this amount of money you can get 500 to 1,000 miles at a robotaxi.

Also, as people get older and have a harder time, great for them too. You find pleasure in seeing a Tesla dead on the side of the road? You enjoy other's misery? What is this nonsense about shutting down coal power plants? Ridiculous. Even if all electric for charging an EV comes from coal power, it is still more efficient and produces less pollution into the air than pollution spewed by ICE vehicles. FACT. EVs are way more efficient in using energy and don't waste energy like gas and diesel engined cars which are only 20-23 percent efficient- wasting the balance of energy in each gallon used which is released as heat. You have definitely drank the MAGA anti EV koolaid being spewed. You are being played by the petroleum industry that has spent billions in anti-EV advertisements, social media manipulation to try to convince ignorant people that EVs are bad for the us. Furthest from the truth. Your pleasure in seeing the misery of others tells me a lot about your lack of morals and compassion for others. I drive a used 2021 Tesla model 3. It is superior to any car I've ever owned. I save $100 per month vs gasoline. I have the statistics to prove it. The 5 year cost of driving this will be much less than driving an Ice vehicle. I like saving money! I guess you don't! Pathetic.

Most of the growth in BEV sales is in China. In the USA and Europe BEV sales are flat or down. Growth in hybrid sales are significant in both areas. Source PWC Electric Vehicle Sales Review Q2 2024

I read this article a few months ago, where they interviewed a truck driver who test drove the Tesla semi. He said that whoever designed this did not know anything about being a truck driver. Since the driver sits in the middle of the cab, he can't lean out the window to hand over his manifest, like normal. He's got to get out of the vehicle to interact. He also said that the space behind the driver's seat is not made for sleeping. So, you either have to sleep in your seat or outside the cab. When you look at it, he's right. But, the semi was built to be driverless anyway, so it's not surprising the designers missed the mark. There will be some hype, but in the end, the semi will be a dud.

I hope you understand economics 101 a little better than it appears you do. Love your show, but subsidies are paid by someone. Even governments get their money from the public. Even when this money is borrowed resulting in inflation 101. There is a cost and society will pay that cost. We read books and look at fallen societies, yet we still fail to see the lessons we need to learn and implement. The US is repeating ancient Roman policies. If we continue down this road, who knows. The CCP is subsidizing their EV manufacturers. They will have to choose 5 or 6 companies and let the rest fall by the wayside. That is coming in the near future. Their best manufacturing advantage is little or no regulations other than support the CCP. That's the major reason why they are much cheaper than we are in the USA. China is about to collapse from it's debt. It's crazy stupid how they run their country. Europeans in general have lost their minds over woke BS and you will also pay the price in your societies for this policy. Sorry guys. I hope you wise up sooner than later. Best wishes in this endeavor.

Maybe it’s you who need a few refresher courses. Not all government borrowing results in inflation. China is not about to collapse or go bankrupt; countries in control of their currencies don’t.

20:12 But what about pedestrian safety!? What if a Tesla semi hits a pedestrian? Will they be fine? If not, then how can Tesla send Semis to Europe?! Europe has more pedestrians struck by cars and trucks than any other country in the world. Pedestrians do not look both ways crossing busy streets, they just walk in front of moving cars and trucks because even if they are hit by a vehicle, they will be fine. Cybertruck is not legal in Europe, how can Semi be legal?! This is insanity!
