@Gjeebs You skipped "Unlock on Park". You have it on but I recommend it off. As long as the child safety thing isn't on people can always open the doors from the interior. The issue is people opening the doors from the outside. This setting also applies for the trunk. If you pull over and park with this on to wait for someone a thief can run up to your trunk and do a quick open and grab.

Lane Departure Avoidance applies corrective steering to keep the car in its lane while "Emergency" Lane Departure Avoidance takes more aggressive action, automatically steering the car back into its lane if the system detects an imminent risk of leaving the lane and potentially causing a collision. I think one example of an emergency scenario might be where you are changing lanes and a car is in your blind spot, it may veer you back into your lane along with an audio warning.

While in Auto Pilot I always keep my foot on the accelerator in heavy traffic and often continuously override its more cautious tendencies allowing me to maintain the distance I want to the vehicle in front. Then when I’m happy to let it take over again I stop pressing on the accelerator and simply monitor what it’s doing. Never let the dumbest but steadiest member of your driving team take 100% control and complain when it does something stupid while your brain is out of the loop. @ AutoPilot consists of Cruise to control speed and AutoSteer. Tesla is 100% clear that you are 100% responsible; people not understanding its abilities is what causes all these senseless crashes; the worst example was the guy watching a movie prior to his well earned decaptiation. AutoPilot does 99% of the work which I use 70% of the time. Think of it as your teenage nephew with no experience but smart and fastidious to understand simple instructions. He cannot optimize car position, vehicle spacing and see dangers ahead but you can with your years of experience so why would you hand complete control over to your nephew and then yell at him when he makes a mistake. It’s a team effort where AutoPilot does 99% of the work for you. Don’t mistake your need to do you 1% and to monitor what its doing by paying MORE attention to the road not LESS which you can accomplish because you’ve been unburdened by the monotonous bits most of the time.

I've had several times where it incorrectly detected an object in front of me thereby preventing me from accelerating at a stop. Made it dangerous when I was trying to cross an intersection with cars going both ways.

Ben, depending on where you are roadtripping, setting it to 100% might be a mistake in terms of total trip time given the way the battery charge rate slows as it approaches full. More charging stops, with shorting charging times may be optimal for total travel time. Setting at 100% might impact the route planning algorithm.

This feature actually can be annoying when navigating in cities and you need all the real estate to understand where you need to be - when the blindspot camera comes on, it distracts a bit. So I'd turn that off, especially when driving in busy areas where you're not familiar and need all the navigation and map visuals. But, alas, this was not a big deal to you ;-)

I don’t like having the “trip planner” supercharger option on. Went from Phoenix to Vegas with a stop in Kingman to use the chargers there. Because “trip planner” was on, it wanted me to stop at every charger between here and Kingman. Been doing long road trips for years. Like you mentioned, sometimes the planner wants to do a bunch of short charges, I've found that cancelling navigation and restarting it after an 80%+ charging session will sort it out. Actually, It's recommended you cycle the battery between 40-60% even on a daily basis if possible. I charge mine to 70% if it's warmer than 42F (5C) and 80% if it's colder than that. I use about 25-30% battery every day. The difference between cycling the battery between 50-80% and 40-70% is 2-3% degradation at 200k miles. I like to have a decent buffer for safety and unplanned trips and can't be bothered to constantly change my charge limit. But the general consensus is: 1. Plugging in all the time is a good thing 2. Cycling between 20-50% is much better than 50-80% even though you're using the same percentage of battery. Packs handle being discharged better than being charged. 2.5 If you've charged to 70% and then used up 20%, it's better to plug in and charge back to 70% than to leave it one more day and discharge to 30% before cycling the battery. Small cycles in the middle of the pack! 3. Keep the battery percentage close to 50% at all times, for example - charge to 70% at night, arrive to work with 55%, come home with 40% and let the car sit plugged in till it's charged again at night. 4. Don't stress a cold battery - drive in CHILL mode during winter months unless you've managed to heat it up with normal driving to where it'll give you the full regen. Then it's warm enough to safely provide the full power without strain.. 5. If you have a car plugged in over night and it's cold, preheat the battery before you drive. 30 minutes is a good estimate. 6. Don't discharge below 10% on a daily basis. 7. Don't supercharge. At all if possible. Home 11kW (3x 230V x 16A EU) or 7kW (single phase 230V x 32A US (honestly idk how you guys have it, I just assume lol) is plenty. Supercharge only for road trips and if possible, only use the bottom part of the pack - 15-70%. You don't have to do all of this, it might seem like such a chore.. but really, most of these are just set and forget and won't hinder your experience. But the difference between you doing this and not could be as much as 5-7% degradation difference at 120k miles. Tesla only claims the battery will give you at least 70% of rated capacity at 120k miles, and people usually get somewhere around 87% with the worse part of the graph in low 80s and the better part in low 90s. Packs don't age linearly and will loose the first 15% faster than the next 5%. You can delay the first 15% with gentle use.

That is very strange, I've never heard of Tesla uploading videos to anything. What would it be uploading? I mean, the videos for sentry mode are stored locally on the USB in the glove box, and it isn't supposed to send them to your phone unless there is a significant threat.
@platniumdr
@platniumdr 29 күн бұрын
@@ProXcaliber Simply put, Tesla uses video data to train FSD; a truly mind boggling amount of it. FSD is a technical marvel and there's some very deep rabbit holes you can go down. If you're interested, about an hour into the Tesla AI Day 2022 presentation they cover FSD development. From there, there's thousand of hours of community deep dives into the software, hardware 3 computers, Dojo and other super computer training stacks, shadow mode data collection, etc.

@@platniumdr I don't know, I checked my network after writing my original comment, and it doesn't appear mine does that. I do, however, have sentry mode turned off at home, and I have all the settings for sending anonymous data turned off in the vehicle settings. Maybe try that? Because mine does not send that amount of data over my network.
@platniumdr
@platniumdr 29 күн бұрын
@@ProXcaliber I'm not worried about the data, just mentioning it so people are aware. It's not uploading sentry video, you seem to be pretty stuck on that.
@ProXcaliber
@ProXcaliber 29 күн бұрын
@@platniumdr I mentioned sentry mode because that tends to keep the car awake and in standby mode, which could lead to it sending a lot of data back and forth to the internet. But if you read carefully, I also mentioned that there is a setting in your car where you can turn off the sending of anonymous data. I guess you glossed over that part, seeing as you only care about the fact that I mentioned sentry mode. Either way, I have both of these things turned off in my car, and it doesn't send anywhere near that amount of data through my home network. According to my router, in the last month it has sent approximately 20 GB of data, and I do recall receiving at least 2 updates within that month.

Auto wipers is the worst feature on new cars but reaches top levels of bad on Teslas as they always come back to auto each time you get back on autopilot. I always keep them off to avoid random wipes when dry which might scratch the windshield with road dust. Hopefully Tesla will find a way to let us keep auto wipers off permanently unless we activate them. Such a stupid feature on modern cars... are we lazy to the point of not wanting to select wiper speeds ourselves? 🙄

I'll tell ya the one thing I cannot figure out how to do, is make it so that I can make one of my key cards be explicitly a guest profile so that if I want someone else to drive I can just hand them that key card, and have them unlock the car and drive on purely a premade guest setting that they can fuck with all they want without messing up any of my stuff. As far as I've experienced, this doesn't work if my phone is within a 960 mile radius of the car, unless I like fully shut the Tesla app out, turn off Bluetooth, turn off my phone, and bury it in aluminum foil. Why is this not like, incredibly easy to achieve? Am I missing some part of this process?
