At the end there the topic briefly touched on EV trucking. There are a lot of EV trucks out there but it feels like Tesla has managed to suck all the oxygen out of the press room. Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, Kenworth, BYD, Peterbilt are all legacy brands that have all-electric options, and there are even more startups and smaller brands. Some of these brands had semi-tractors on the road and in service years before Tesla fielded their first non-prototype units...

Sucking out oxygen is the correct way to look at it, especially when the cyberturd is the worst vehicle in production in the entire usa.

probably something in the certificate exchange is missing on the GM side for plug & charge to work right with the Superchargers, maybe they aren't fully ISO 15118-2/20 software compliant yet.

(Smidge from the Chat) Q: How much cheaper could a vehicle be if they stripped it to bare minimum compliance in terms of tech? A1: not much, A2: 0 to none. i mean it was pretty obvious not just those in the Auto Industry, but to everyday Auto consumers that when the Model 3 first arrived back in 2017, what it's "stripped out" interior represented was an attempt at PEAK DECONTENTING in order to save manufacturing costs, and of course despite this effort very few Model 3's ever actually sold for this $35,000 target price... okay then, what Elon's greedy nature means is no matter the rhetoric and propaganda Tesla Corp puts out regarding a "fictional" Model 2 (notice how he's already "strung everyone along" with a few years of it) he is NEVER going to manufacture and sell a $25,000 car, and despite how much i dislike him i really can't blame him since what doing so represents is the proverbial "Race To The Bottom" # RACE TO THE BOTTOM

Sorry Martyn, although confused why Dom isn't running the show this week, but miss the weekly news update, as Clarkson showed in a Top Gear episode many years ago in the UK with an F150(non-EV) someone will just thieve and run from the back of the truck when you're sitting at the red light. Not sure Martyn the F150 will be liked on your country roads think may be called A or B roads where it can be single lane with hedge rows on both sides. I can never watch you live due to the time difference, right around midnight my time Friday night after a long week of work have tried on occasion but just too tired.

I worry that a newbie, or someone thinking of going electric will be scared off. Gas cars, you just pour gas in and stop when it's full. Octane is the only question. I hope new ev owners know you don't have to know much except NACS or CCS mostly. And you will mostly charge at home. It's so much cheaper and convenient to charge up while you sleep, 80% full in the morning. Not worrying about fluctuating prices and dumping 60.00 to fill a gas car

Sorry, I’m a little late to the game, I listen to the podcast when I’m out road tripping my EV on weekend drives. On the extension cable there are currently 17,000 Ish superchargers that are open to non-Teslas and there are approximately 300,000 EV’s that now have access to the supercharger with about 120,000 Fords and about 90,000 Rivian’s and however, many GM’s so to expect all 300,000 to get extension cables which you know not even 1000 will probably get them versus Tesla replacing all of their cables with longer cables is only having to change 17,000. Tesla regularly replaces cables on their superchargers so they’re already sending out a technicians to replace cables so my thought is as they go out and replace these cables. They should replace them with longer cables. Maybe put a hook at the top for the V3 so they can wrap around and then eventually change them all out with the V4 of dispensers.

Question regarding charging cost with my Bolt on Tesla supercharger Scenario 1 - I put my cc info into my Chevy app and activate Tesla superchargers Scenario 2 - I have a Tesla so I have the Tesla app and can activate a charger with Tesla app If I use my Tesla app to activate a charge will I get my Tesla cost per kWh? Vs If I use my Chevy app … where id pay more, unless i sign up for their monthly discount plan?
@junehanzawa51659 күн бұрын
That last question is very interesting. If you're saying you own both a Tesla and a Bolt, you should take your Bolt out to a Supercharger and see if it will charge. However, I would imagine it won't since with a Tesla you just plug it in and it's recognized without using any app, where other EVs need to activate through the Tesla app or their own apps or their plug an play feature (Ford and Rivian, not GM yet).

In terms of charge port location: why aren’t more manufacturers doing what the Niro and Kona do and have the port up the hood in the front of the vehicle? It would allow using pretty much any charger without taking up more than 1 parking space

I'm concerned that GM (especially Bolts, god love 'em) coming online to Tesla network will encourage Tesla NOT to upgrade their ubiquitous V2 chargers -- in order to maintain exclusivity to Tesla owners for those stations. In Michigan over half of Superchargers are V2, and in many critical corridors (e.g., Bay City)....

Guys, you missed out a little bit on the IAA Transportation, it wasn't just Tesla. All the European companies are now pushing heavy duty trucks to the market. Mercedes announced, they have 2,000 orders already in the books for their eActros 600 truck and starting production in Europe in November. Scania, MAN, Renault, Volvo, Iveco and even Ford Europe are also updating their model lineup. Private charging networks are now scaling up with Milence taking the lead, but also the German government announcing plans to equip 130 rest stops short term. You might want to get in touch with the Elektrotrucker, a startup guy going electric truck influencer making already now the case for electric trucks in Germany and showing the public in a weekly vlog his experiences.

Tesla could do a mild interesting exterior and interior revision (X&S) but then put something exciting like 800V SOC packs in to really freshen up their line. They will be able to do it as all the other charging companies bring 800V J3400 plugs online over the next few months, and hopefully lights fire under the supercharger team to get those V4 cabinets certified. Yes and bring it down market to the 3&Y (2). 1:25:25

Hate to be that guy. Concerning the discussion on Tesla should focus on building smaller, more affordable EVs, which I do agree that more OEMs should refocus on that issue. When Ford announced that it was canceling its three row SUV in favor for a skunk works project to build more affordable EVs, in the low $30K or even in the $20K range, you all were pretty negative on the change of direction. However nice that you all are in favor of more cheaper EVs, which was one of the biggest complains on the various surveys on the general public souring on EVs.

I have been saying it for the longest time, and will keep saying it. Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in North America to more and more brands is the biggest gamechanger since Tesla itself. EV adoption will shoot up in the coming years like never before.
