We have a model 3 long range dual motor AWD and it is simply amazing. The sound system is hands down the best I've ever heard. It's not just a means of getting around, it's a genuine Joy to be in. Tesla recently figured out how to get better performance out of their motors. Instead of adding it to next year's model like other companies, they sent our car an update and made it faster and added range at the same time. It's a whole new way of doing things.

2:30 I believe the AC induction motor is still used up front on the awd and performance model 3/y, due to its ability to spin freely when not in use.. -It’s likely to stay in use

Tesla still uses induction motors on their dual-motor cars because they are able to “freewheel” when not being used (ie:freeway cruising) which adds to overall efficiency. Model 3 front motor is AC induction type.

Thank you for the clarification! After doing some extra reading I was glad to see they're not abandoning all induction motors. Thanks for watching!

Since you're interested in doing videos on modern cars that fit themes of more retrospective videos you've done, it'd be neat to see a video on a Fisker Karma, which fits in neatly with the Bricklin and Delorean in "sports cars made by rich car industry insiders who wanted to go it alone"

@AutoMoments

I definitely like Tesla, but refuse to be a fanboy. This was a fairly early 2018 model, so the exterior panels definitely had some fit and finish irregularities. But other than that, it seemed well built enough. Thanks for watching!

@AutoMoments
@AutoMoments 5 жыл бұрын
They do very well in the luxury sedan market, but there are still hundreds of thousands of gasoline luxury SUVs sold in the U.S. Tesla builds great products, but there are still a lot of automakers that are considerably larger both in terms of sales and profits. My hope is that Tesla continues to succeed, but for the time they're still an underdog. Thanks for watching!

Great video as usual. Yeah it seems to me that the words autopilots, Artificial Intelligence and so on are used way too much nowadays, for machines that are still pretty far from being able to live up to the hype (and won't be for at least a few decades IMHO). On a side note, when you're comparing Apple and Tesla in the video, saying that Apple dominates its industry, that's actually not the case. Iphones only make up 13% of the smartphones market, the other 87% being Android phones (all brands). As for desktop computers operating systems, its 16% for MacOS and 77% for Windows. Apple is, too, an underdog selling expensive trendy designer products.
@AutoMoments
@AutoMoments 5 жыл бұрын
I agree; self driving tech is cool, but it's not quite there yet. As for Apple, that way lazy writing on our part. You're right; Apple doesn't dominate by market share, but they're definitely in a much more solid position in their business than Tesla is. Thanks for keeping us honest, and thanks for watching!

Thanks for being a fan, as always! You raise a good point about where the electricity comes from! The U.S. Dept. of Energy actually has a calculator on their website where you can see how clean (or dirty) an electric car is VS a gas car, depending on your state. It's fun to play around and see which states are the best: afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html

@@uselesscompanion6417 I'm for all the alternative energy solutions but to my mind it has to be as solid, reliable, ready, and long lasting as gasoline. Electric is fine for public transportation, commuter trains and buses don't need to travel 400 miles. Solar isn't practical, it's not always sunny, wind fans are horrendously ugly. Imposing, birds keep flying into them, killing them instantly, tremendously loud, devaluing property because of the noise and it's not always windy. So, no, we are not ready for alternative fuel sources yet.
