I drive through a debris field well after a crash on the interstate and heard some things hit, yet thought I was fine for the next two miles. Then I heard a bang with loud Rrrrrrrrr sounds, saw the warning from the display that the RR tire was down to 20 psi as I pulled over to the shoulder. It was 1:15pm and I was about 5 miles from our Tesla dealership. I entered a Roadside Emergency in the app. Nine minutes later someone texted me in the app. They said the “loaner wheel” was out and the car would need to be towed to a tire shop of my choice or the dealer. New at this, and potentially having a warranty claim, I opted for the dealer. Tow truck guy (3rd party) arrived, and hauled it back to the dealership. My wife picked me up as the tow truck guy was finishing. I had no key on me, so they had me remotely start the car when they got it to the dealership. Tire had 5 big sidewall gouges, so replacement was the only option. * What happens when I’m in the middle of nowhere? * Would a nearby tire shop have had the right tire (Costco doesn’t have them in stock around here) * What if my wife didn’t pick me up? Do I ride back with tow truck guy? * Tow truck guy said most of the new cars don’t have spare tires. Is that true? I spent a fortune on this car, and so far I’m not at any more ease about the tire situation than I was going in. I’ve probably had a flat about every two years, and my prep with the jack, etc, has bailed me out every time.

I had a flat tire twice on my Tesla same tire. The experience was a nightmare. The first flat happened at 8:00 on a Friday night at a busy intersection in an unsafe area. Mobile tire repair would have been ideal unfortunately in Los Angeles it's a 3-day wait time. My only option was to tow it to a Tesla service center, as it was after business hours and I could not call local tire stores to see if they have the tires in stock, which apparently nobody ever does. Because Tesla service centers don't work on weekends I had to wait until Monday with no car. Monday rolls around and I discovered that that service center has no tires in stock, with none due for at least 2 weeks (2022 model y induction Wheels long range). They're suggested solution was to buy the tire, then Uber it down 15 miles to the service center. Nobody had the tire. The next selected solution was to order the tire from a third party, which I ended up doing. This half-assed solution did work, but I was out of a car for almost a week. Second flat tire is currently in process, and was way easier. Fortunately I discovered it in my driveway. Tesla sent over a text to give me a loaner wheel so I could drive the car in the meantime. The mobile tire tech appointment is pending, I'm waiting for them and they give you a 5-hour window and again it was a three-day wait. I believe in the first instance there were no longer Wheels available so I was really stuck. The mobile tire repair is a fantastic idea, however a 3-day wait makes it useless in Los Angeles for many applications. Tessa really needs to have this better staff, and it should be 24 hours a day, so if you get a flat tire in the middle of nowhere they can come fix it. All in all this experience makes me hesitate to buy another Tesla, or recommend Tesla to other people. Which is a shame, because of it weren't for this incredibly screwed up experience I would be a Tesla evangelist.

Unfortunate situation but I don’t think you can blame Tesla for that since that seems like that was the only option (to Uber a 3rd party tire down) I don’t really know what else they could do since no one had the tire in stock…. Even a non-Tesla in that situation would have the same outcome sadly.

They DO need more service centers though, and have been growing so fast and haven’t been able to keep up with the service/repair shops which hopefully gets better soon. I would guess La is also the highest Tesla population there so everything would have wait times.

Luckily they don’t have as much that can go wrong, but when they do it can be a pain.

I picked up a large screw yesterday. I contacted Tesla Roadside this morning. Four hours later and all I've gotten is an automated response advising that the 'next available' tech would handle it. Everybody is busy for 4 hours?!? Not good customer relations.

They just came and found a nail. It looks smaller then yours but they had to change my tire :// and it cost me $269. I only get my Tesla model 3 for a week :(

Hi tesla intern here the tech probably didn't get to you only because when you called they had some customers ahead of you, tbh there's a shortage of mobile service techs apparently.

Thx for sharing. I would not trust the patch to long, especially if it’s in the front. Your safety is more important then to save money. That’s speaking from experience & my opinion. Good luck 👍

I’m confused. Tesla told me they would only sell me a new tire for 370. How did you talk them into patching?? They said no because it has the foam

The tech told me if the puncture was within so many inches of the edge he can patch. So luckily for me the bolt was in the center so it was patchable.

You could’ve just used a plug for 10 bucks at a gas station. Im sure u don’t do high performance driving in the tesla.
