This looks great, Rob. I'm seriously considering using Teslamate over Teslafi. But I have a few questions: 1) Does any of the car monitoring by Teslamate prevent the car from going to "sleep"? And if so, is any of that configurable? 2) Is there any support when/if there's a Teslamate upgrade or if there are any issues? 3) Any chance there could be an app version in the near future? 4) Are there any contrilst for the car (or. locks, windowse, sentry mode, etc?)

1) No. Your Tesla will sleep by default when idle. Within TeslaMate settings you can allow the car to sleep even when unlocked (like at home). 2) Scroll to the bottom of this page for instructions on updating. It's simple. And if you're nervous about upgrading simply take a snapshot using the cloud hosting provider prior to updating so you can rollback the update if necessary. It's free. 3) Not that I know of. Don't really see the utility in this 4) TeslaMate is read-only (ingests data) so as far as I know it wouldn't be able to control anything. Follow the steps outlined in the video and give it a try. You can cancel hosting at anytime as it's billed by the minute. Enjoy!

4:56 nice overview, Rob. Have you had any luck with the AC/DC data being separated? In my case, everything is classified as AC. I’m not sure if I have something set up wrong, or if it’s configured for European charging phases, and it’s not detected as a result.

awesome, great work Rob! one question i have is once telsamate pushes out new releases and updates, how do we get those changes into our running container? do we have to down the container and pull in changes and start it u p again?

This update process is simple (under 5 minutes) and only requires two commands on your server: docker-compose pull Will pull the latest version of TeslaMate. Then all you have to do is activate it by typing: docker-compose up -d Once that completes, test access to both your grafana and teslamate URLs. If you encounter a 502 bad gateway error just restart your server by typing: sudo reboot It may take around 10 minutes for the databases to catch back up with the update, so if things appear slow, know it's only temporary.

My Grafana (port 4000) would connect without issues But my Teslamate (port 3000) won't connect at all. I keep getting the error "This site can't be reached / refused to connect". Anyone know what's wrong?

Late to the party here... got everything installed without issue, however, when I navigate to the teslamate subdomain, I get the same 404 error that you showed when navigating to your primary domain "404 page not found". Any thoughts/workarounds on how to get around that?

Thanks for the great info, worked perfectly. I am however getting at "No encryption key provided" notification in the Teslamate UI. It states "To ensure that your Tesla API tokens are stored securely, an encryption key must be provided to TeslaMate via the ENCRYPTION_KEY environment variable. Otherwise, a login will be required after every restart." Got any advice about this?

Ran through your awesome tutorial to a T, twice. I’m stuck on getting to the teslamate domain. The garfana domain also does not load. Figured I made a mistake on my first try so I reinstalled the server, cleared the host key and started over. Still having the same issue. Any ideas?

This is good, but i felt too much process to setup this including domain name. Why can't we just get docker install on local machine and get teslamate into docker and access localhost ?

You can run it locally, but that address needs to be publicly accessible by Tesla Services. However, you likely have a dynamic IP address at home, so you can't use that because it will change from time to time. You can setup a Dynamic IP Update client, but would still have to have a human readable domain name. Its much easier to just get a static IP address from one of these cheap services.

Hi Raj - I looked into a local type of set up but it ended up being more of a burden than just paying for my own server. I needed something that was accessible from anywhere and would always be online. You can't do that with a raspberry pi. It's also only $5 / mo so it's not going to break the bank.

This is a good option, but I really love seeing my average battery degradation graph - my vehicle is lower than most others in the fleet! That's something TeslaMate can't provide - comparison to other vehicles. I also use TeslaFi to determine if I should have an update available and know based on past updates that it's pushed to me after about half the fleet is updated. Plus it's cheaper at $50/year. Plus no need to maintain virtual system in the cloud - you will eventually want to patch that instance for security updates and very unlikely it going to just work for any length of time. Just my opinion. I recommend everyone look at all the options before pulling the trigger.

Looks like mine did too! I fixed this by rebooting the server. Just type: sudo reboot in the command line to restart your server. Then I logged into teslamate.myurl.com, opened the app on my phone so the car woke up and it showed up online in both teslamate and grafana. I'm going to update the software on my server to pull the latest version of teslamate to hopefully prevent this from happening again. Still works perfectly! Make sure to use the hosting platform Vultr as outlined in the video as I believe the API limitations only apply to larger cloud services (i.e. AWS, Google Cloud).

If you encounter a 502 bad gateway message when trying to access your teslamate URL simply reboot your server via the command line by typing: sudo reboot Then you should be all set!

Hi Phil. First thing I'd recommend is rebooting your server. Type 'sudo reboot' on your servers command line to restart. Once it boots back up, see if your teslamate.domain.com is accessible. Does grafana.domain.com work? Both down? If they both are down ensure that your dns entries are set up / propagated. You can do a quick domain propagation check to see it's online.
