I used to watch Tessa's videos all the time back in 2011/2012, but then sometime after that, they stopped showing up on my KZbin suggestions almost abruptly. I never unsubscribed, but they just sort of vanished and I don't know why. Like they say, "Out of sight, out of mind." I recently remembered her videos, and wondered what happened to her. Then almost like clockwork, this video showed up on my homepage the very next day. Very eerie indeed, but I'd just like to say that I had no idea she was a musician at all and I've been very pleasantly surprised! Lovely voice and lovely melody. Keep up the great work!

This song is so eerie. At first when I heard it I was confused because it sounds just like a chill, mellow song. But the more I listened the more uncomfortable I'd get. There's just something so dark about it, and so profoundly disturbing to me. After a while I realized it's because it reminded me so much of a situation I was in with a girl a while back. Only it's from her point of view, not mine which is why it took so long for me to realize why it resonated with me. This whole song, especially the lines "And I get drunk; on a boy who asks me if I'm up...I'll be your empathetic savior call me up I'll meet you later; you can praise me for the way I always know just what to say; I'll carve into your ribs and leave you crying for a kiss just for kicks" and "There's a circuit in my chest unconnected from the rest;....disconnecting my mouth from my thoughts" literally give me chills. I've been the boy. I know what it's like from the other side, but I've never seen her side of it and it's honestly horrifying. It's a song about addiction (from what I've gathered) but an addiction to drugs. It's a song about a girl who knows what she's doing is wrong and devastating to the people she interacts with but who's disassociated her actions with her emotions so much she can't stop it and a guy who can sense that something is wrong about this but is completely addicted to the girl and can't stay away. As you guy a part of you is angry and hurt and repulsed by becoming so dependent and close to someone like this just to end up being a pawn for their own impossible to decipher reasons, but from the girl's point of view it's just as bad. It makes me think that, at least in my situation, maybe she didn't just use me for her own amusement. Maybe she did it because it gave her a rush to do so, and she actually just couldn't stop herself. Either way, a fantastic song that shook me to the core. Tessa Violet is brilliant and talented, but honestly terrifies me. And I pray for the boy/boys who this song was directed to.

I know I'm a bit late to responding to this comment but I think this is a really awesome song. I haven't thought about seeing it from the outside perspective that deeply. And in a way it is kind of dark.

Actually, I thought that all of the guys who are listening this song were listening it from the "outside perspective" lol
@bug2buga4 жыл бұрын
it's dark because it very easily represents clinical depression. when you're depressed and anxious, it's like a veil falls over your whole life. nothing is good or fun any more because you don't want to do ANY of it, so you start seeking out darker means of escaping (drugs, other people, etc. etc. etc.) it's not so much about addiction in my perspective as it is the boy/partner's addiction to her strangeness. her bright colours, but the way she's always some kind of sad, then happy and brilliant again. it's very much how my own brain works, sometimes i'm inspired and colourful and making art, but then i hit those depression/art block stumps where i feel worthless and like i have no inspiration. the lesson is: don't use other people to make your life better.
@bug2buga4 жыл бұрын
@You- know-who basically, the guy in the song was fascinated with her and her depression/mental illness, he "never knew the taste of haze" and to him, the whole world was a stage. he was lucky, and going places, while she was left in the fog of her depression. the lesson is that he shouldn't have used her "haze" as something to fascinate/interest him, because the whole time it was a bad thing for HER. it's like how a lot of people think of depression as "tragic and beautiful" when it's really not. it just sucks.

I don’t interpret it this way at all. She has mental illness that causes her to be disassociated with her emotions. Its like walking through life in a cloud, that’s always gray. She doesn’t feel highs or lows, nothing makes her super happy... it’s like a chronic feeling of emptiness. She’s saying she met a boy, and enjoyed him but he didn’t ever experience depression like her. To him, the whole world was available and ready for his taking. And she was still just left in a cloud of emptiness. I don’t think there’s anything sinister about it.

Welp, that instantly got placed into my Favorites. Also, this is really good in normal speed AND 1.5x. Totally different vibe and the increased speed still makes it sound nice. You know, without sounding obviously sped up. Fantastic job Tess, I'm glad to be a long time follower. Going back to the VYou days. :D -The Prince

KZbin recommendations are piss-poor these days. They used to actually be good for finding new (and in some cases obscure) music. No longer. It's all about retention-bucks now. Nothing else matters.
