Hi !
Another awesome bass line by the almighty Amos Williams (and ofc an awesome TesseracT song). His playthrough of the song gave me the opportunity to better understand the way Amos plays it, especially the groovy/funky part in the middle, which I transcribed accordingly.
Also I tried to take advantage of the 1080p quality of my camera instead of my phone, turns out there's a bit of auto-focus going fonky sometimes and the quality is not so great so, sorry about that ! I still have a lot to improve audio & video recording-wise :)

How do you lock in that second verse groove with the song? I can play it with an instrumental but the vocals trip me up so badly.

Don't listen to the vocals then ! :) I'm kidding, but I did not have that particular issue so I'm not sure if I can give you any good advice. Maybe try feeling the groove in other groupings or subdivisions ! This is written in 6/4 but personally I feel most of 6/4 TesseracT's grooves as 4/4 with a ternary feel. Also I guess listening to the drums helps, especially the snare which hits almost every time the 4th beat (or for me the 3rd).

I faced the same problem with the first riff that comes with the vocals in Exile. I had to have the rhythm down 300% with the instrumental, thats how the vocals stopped tripping me up later when i played along to the full version. Took a little adjusting obviously but eventually my brain caught on.
