I keep a pair of cheap speakers (from thrift store) on my workbench to use first. If they get fried, it's only $5 or so to replace them. But this is a good idea to check for DC. I did have a receiver in my home theater for years that would output DC voltage to speakers when in stereo mode, and it would overheat. However, in surround sound mode, whatever caused the DC was filtered out, so it worked great.

a really good thing to do, I wouldn't want to ruin my mid 90's techniques that sound great.

I've got to open my vintage Fisher 125 back up. It worked great after using deoxit on it for about few months, but it's already scratchy and having issues with the right channel again on the stereo/mono switch and on the band selector.

Have you tried CRC QD cleaner before you DeOx? That has worked for me.

I had a nice Yamaha receiver for free that was really a mess, and loved to eat new parts. It is/was DC coupled and popped one of my test speakers. So yes this is a good heads up

1st.. Thank you for watching this channel:) IMHO if you like your Sony receiver then get it repaired. But if you think you may want to try something else then maybe look for a vintage receiver. As you know an AV receiver won't cut it as far as 2ch stereo sound is concerned. Again Thank you.....BB23

Hi there, my kenwood KR 5070 receiver suddenly lost volume. It is so low even when I put it on the highest level. Occasionally the sound hits the highest bursts of sound. I hate to give up on it. Any thoughts? Played fine since 2006. Thank you, D Ann

Fiddle around with the Vol control, speaker A&B, balance, mode selector, tape & source controls. If your are lucky you just have a dirty control switch or knob. I have seen this happen quite often.
