9:41 Why does each oxygen have -2 and have 3 of them? Please help, I dont get it

the overall charge of the sulfate (IV) ion is -2 (says in the table), we know that the sulfur has a charge of +4 because thats what the (IV) means. So in order for the overall molecule to have a charge of -2 we need the total charge of the O molecules to be -6 (+4 - 6 = -2) -6 / -2 (-2 = charge of oxygen atoms) = 3 so there is 3 O atoms

hi! when looking at oxidation states, i know the subscript affects the number, but i wanted to ask if the coefficients do as well? for example, in Mn02, oxygen's oxidation state becomes -4 which in turn makes Mn +4, but in 2H2O, does the coefficient 2 affect the states? so would it be +2 (H) and -2 (O), or would they be affected by that coefficient and become +4 and -4?
