Is the trans fluid the red stuff for transmission or Bud Light?
@RobertHolster1Ай бұрын
Another excellent podcast. Very good explanation of the old school methods of adding lubricity to diesels. Back in my IDI days in the 1990s, we added a little transmission fluid to the fuel tanks due to those pumps failing at 100k miles or so. Not sure if that even worked, looking back on it now. As a new diesel owner, I'm having to learn how to manage and maintain the Denso HP4 pump and injectors on my 2023 L5P. Although failures aren't common, they can happen and get extremely expensive. So episodes such as this is extremely helpful. Full disclosure, I am using another popular additive, recommended by a few folks, so we'll see how well it works.

I’ve used Hot Shot for years, Good shit!

I've used Opti-lube products and Hotshot Secret Products. I'm currently using Hotshot Secret EDT and adding a little LX4 in my 1986 M1009 CUCV with 6.2 diesel.

Just installed a new set of Stage 2 DDP injectors in the 1st gen Cummins. Cleaned up the haze and improved the performance of the 10+ year old DAP injectors. Well worth the investment.

I have been a long time 20plus years Lucas Fuel additive user. I would use this and Cetane additive in my 6.0 power-stroke- great mileage no issues. On my 6.7 power-stroke I use HotShots EDT and a Lucas Blend every fill up. Also run Hotshots 5-40 oil actually went 7k on an oil change can’t wait to get the results back from testing to compare to other oil. Good video guys!

I use a Schaffer's fuel treatment, for my logging equipment, if he can show where their products can outperform what I'm already using....I'll swap to his product
@2hotscottproАй бұрын
I use that also.
@dallasgrothusen1547Ай бұрын
Using Schaeffer’s as well. I have start e to watch boost no responding code in a C-7 RV and it looks like I am maxing out at 29 psi boost non treated. With treated fuel I am 30-31 psi which apparently triggers the DTC.

I buy Stanadyne -5 gallons treats 5000 gallons of diesel..
@willb7975Ай бұрын
Last 4 months, using stanadyne performance blue and purple lubricity formulas each tank for my 17 F350 6.7, daily driver. Was using EDT for a few years prior, but wanted to shift from a specialist versus hype. Always winder why not use available diesel from the pump, common folk would use, when comparing the scar testing (who is actually using that liw quality of fuel) applicable to listeners (ram cummins, ford PSD, chev/gmc duramax). Enjoy the channel, just noticing same trend of narrative and why the use of such a baseline quality of fuel....

Personally, I prefer Marvel Mistery Oil. It gives me 3.7 MPG over no treatment in my 7.3. 🤔

Is that a fuel additive or oil additive?

I would love to get an additional 3.7 mpg. I'm getting 11-13.5 mpg on my 97 7.3 cclb 4x4

Questions: it is good to use the same baseline fuel and make the comparisons as they did but what about the fuels at the pump from the different distributors (e.g. Exxon-Mobil vs Shell vs BP vs etc). Don't they add their proprietary additives which may include (or not) lubricants?? Then you hear about winter vs summer blends. Has Hot Shot tested the fuels from the pump from the different companies and is there a difference in their lubricity and other additives? Which major distributor provides fuel that has the greatest benefit straight out of the pump?

I'd love to see Hot Shots do lubricity testing on B100 & R100. Alot of stations are only selling B20 now & candidly, its getting very hard to avoid cause of our lovely gvnt

How can you have an unbiased view on additives when your guest is a representative from a major additive manufacturer?
@donborst9910Ай бұрын
In canada it's mandated 5%bio in the fuel and I've been told that it helped the lubrisity. Any comments would be helpful.

So if you tested atf with good fuel that was at 480 and you use trans fuild, it would bring it down to 382 That's good 👍 like you said some ppl have pals of atf Using 1 liter per tank of fuel is nothing at all

How is Nano Syn 251 different than FR3 since they both claim virtually the same benefits ? FR3 claims to be fully synthetic ( group 4 or higher )... What about NS 251 ? What are the component differences between the two products?

7:25 older trucks? 50/50 blend gasoline with old or new oil... add 5% of that to modern diesel. costs less them buying ether cans and the older turbo diesels fire on all the cylinders like their a huge gas engine, no visible smoke either. calculated average flash point correction for a 15:1 diesel when modern diesel is made for engines with a 18:1 ~ 30:1 compression ratio. like the diesel and gas pump are both on the same pump in a lot of places so... double stuff the fill neck.
@ardennielsen3761Ай бұрын
engine needs to be built for it or it will throw the rods out the block and melt the pistons, adding gas to diesel is similar to a large belt driven blower... adds constant pressure over the dwell time. ... excessive overhead room to get an extra 5psi of overheat out of something that would normally sit at 800lbft so it can fully sit at 800lbft/430hp for hours at a time. needs gasoline blended in to idle at low load to reduce misfire/smoke. circle track trucks... afford a flooreder ford.
@Feistygoat1Ай бұрын
can confirm about older trucks and the ultra low sulfur diesel my 96 6.5 runs significantly smoother with edt and this past week I've started using lx4 on top of that and the truck is running the smoothest it has since I've owned it

Anybody have anecdotes for fourth gen 6.7s? I got one and I don’t think I want to run it like my 12 valve 😂
@charliemagoo7943Ай бұрын
Years ago transmission fluid would remove carbon from injectors.. the new fluid has a higher flame point maybe even less combustion. If transmission fluid was a really good lubricant, clutches would slip.

Has anybody defined the scientific causal mechanism for poor diesel fuel lubricity since 2006? Has anybody defined the scientific meaning of diesel fuel lubricity beyond just the words? Has anybody yet engineered a proper test for diesel fuel lubricity beyond the so-called lubricity tests designed and developed by ASTM. They do not know the proper definition of diesel fuel lubricity. ASTM's lubricity tests are truly left wanting.

I have to shout out Hotshots Secret personally. I manage transportation and logistics for a demolition and abatement company in DFW TX. This shout out started for me back in 2021 when I was at my highest money spent within the fiscal year on DPF, SCR and fuel injection related repairs. I manage a fleet of Mack trucks AI400, MP7 and MP8 powered units, as well as a fleet of Ford 6.7 powerstrokes 2 2014 model F250s and 4 2016 model F350s. And finally a fleet if heavy equipment various John Deere excavators, track loaders and generators, CAT track loaders and skid steers and Bobcat mini ex and forestry package skid steers. In ‘21 I had 2 injection pump failures back to back. The first occurred just after the SnowMageddon fiasco. The injection pump on one of my CAT 963 track loaders left the chat to the tune of 20 grand to repair and a couple months later the CP4 on one of my 2014 6.7 powerstrokes left the chat and took out the entire fuel system to the tune of just under 8 grand to repair. I started treating my fuel in bulk at that time with HotShots EDT+ at a ratio of 800:1. Fast forward to now, this last fiscal year I have had ZERO repair costs regarding DPF, SCR and Fuel system on any of my equipment. Naturally I am a skeptic about things, but I head up everything regarding maintenance, repair and operation of all of this equipment and I also can see the sharp drop in the numbers starting with the bulk treatment of my fuel on the yard. I spend about $1000 or so every quarter on fuel treatment and it has prevented 100K per year in repair costs. WELL worth the money.
