For anyone making this for themselves, a suggestion: size the cubbies to slide in a red solo cup. As dust and crap collects in the boxes, slide out the solo cup "liners" for an easy clean. It also lets you take a whole mess of sticks to your project if needed.

Go down the craft aisle of any department store and you'll find a wide variety of sticks that are perfect for, well, an aid to nearly every task imaginable. My favorite is the simple toothpick which I use for precise applications of epoxies, CA glues and many more uses. I have some of those popsicle sticks that are fatter at both ends and I apply spray glue on the back of an entire sheet of my favorite sandpaper and place the sticks on the gluey side and apply weights. Homemade sandpaper sticks. Oh!! And Q-Tips are a requirement in any makers arsenal. I am really fond of the long medical ones bc when I use up the cotton end I cut it off and repurpose the stick. Love the little Tamiya ones too.

I find it so refreshing and encouraging to be reminded that even seasoned professionals make mistakes. I also feel like it's a wonderful lesson for viewers of all ages and making ability to see that not only is a mistake not the end of the world, but and is instead an opportunity to learn. Thanks again for the uplifting and education content! As always, I look forward to your next video.

I work out of my car. I need a lot of stuff on my passenger seat, which tends to roll off at corners, my water bottle falls over, I cant find my pen... etc. and occasionally I need to have a passenger in the front seat beside me, so everything gets thrown on the back seat and sometimes gets lost for ever. This month I made a cardboard box out of pizza boxes, with compartments for everything so making things easy to locate, and when I need to put a passenger there, I can just put the box on the back seat until the space is free again. I made it to fit the seat perfectly and its has been a life changer. I totally get the thing about it rolling around in your head for ever. I wish I had done this 5 years ago when I first thought about it.

Welp, I've now purchased all kinds of sticks. I think my son will have fun making crafts with those!
@AVspectre
@AVspectre 4 жыл бұрын
They are totally fun for that. :) Depending on his age, Aileen’s Tacky Glue (spelling might be off) could be a good choice when he’s working on his own builds alongside you. White glue sometimes takes a long time to dry, and we’ve all burned ourselves with hot glue. It’s nice to be able to stick something together and keep working - especially if you’re a kid. :) I haven’t compared it to wood glue re: dry time but it’s just another option. :) Cheap dollar store craft acrylic is also an inexpensive way to colour the sticks before building. Watered down, it can make a faux stain effect to tint the wood (doesn’t cover over glue so that’s why I suggest beforehand). Of course, you can always paint over after with full strength too. :) Cheap kids craft FTW!

Yup, I saw you draw out the lines for the angles wondering if you were going to catch that! Easy to make that mistake! I have sat and literally designed and built many things all in my head, figuring out the mistakes, tricks and other things until I get my design down the way I want it. That may take weeks and months! Then I put it on paper and build it.

Just started watching and that was my assumption. :) I am organizing myself and have a drawer of various adhesives. As for sticks I’ve been using a double-sided snap-close bits box. It’s like a tackle box I guess but more like a small briefcase shape where the front and back with a clear lids that show the contents so I can find what I’m looking for before opening. It requires an extra step of opening, but it works well for me as someone who can’t have everything out and at the ready at all times.

Coffee sticks are great for doing lots of things. But only the ones with square ends. Adam says that the round ended tongue depressors are best for mixing epoxy. For structural consideration, grain direction in plywood is essentially irrelevant. The plies are laid in alternating grain direction. So if you have 5-ply sheets, 3 will be running north-south and 2 east-west. For 7-ply, it's 4 and 3. No matter what direction the grain should run for strength, you will have just under, or just over, half the sheet oriented correctly. That's one of the beautiful things about plywood.

I've never been convinced about eyewash stations, every shop I've worked in had one but I've only got a vague idea where it is. The sink on the other hand, I use it everyday, I can find it in the dark, if I'm blinded by something in my eyes, that's where I'm going.

@@brocktechnology At my first job I got some gas or carb clean in my eye and went to the bottled eye wash station and doused my eye. The nearest sink was in the bathroom across the building and I doubt I could of made it with the shear burning of my eye. Should take note of where they are because I'll bet my vision on an eyewash station thats kept up to date.

The science labs at my high school had these really nifty eyewash faucets on all the sinks. They had a little lever to switch between regular faucet operation to the eyewash fountains (imagine two drinking fountains in parallel, spaced apart to hit both eyes) I’d love to get something like that for my shop sink. I’d also love to have a shop sink... lol. I work out of a tiny shed 🙄😏

Knowing how Adam works, and thinks, I fully expect to catch glimpses of these dispenser racks in the backgrounds of future vids with the items re-arranged a) short to long from top to bottom, and b) identically on both racks. And maybe with some additional items thrown in to fill in the empty compartments. Because as George Carlin used to say, "We've got more space than we have stuff to fill it, WE NEED MORE STUFF!"

the lineup of coffee, iced tea and ginger beer on the worktable at the start amuses me for some reason.
