For years Craftsman tools were actually S-D or Proto. Their tool chests were Kennedy. You expected that quality from a rebranded tool. Adam, Thank you for the great video. I miss the metal boxes from the 1960's - 70's from SK-Wayne In my opinion, a bad case makes a great socket set useless I'm going with the Milwaukee sets Btw, awesome shop!

I have a Craftsman mechanics set that my father purchased me ten years ago. On the face of it, it’s a well designed blow molded case however I have had a few people open it upside down not realizing there is a right way to open it and all of the 3/8s sockets fall out (the 1/4 sockets are in the lockable part). It’s simultaneously great and frustrating. I have eyed those Milwaukee sets to go with my m18 and m12 tools but the craftsman haven’t failed me (while maybe not the best quality it’s still very good). On the subject of ratchets; my father who over the years as an engineer and mechanic, has one Snap On tool (a 3/8s ratchet) tool it’s also one of his oldest from 1970. It’s still the smoothest and most satisfying to use compared to the others.

I just wrapped up a 20yr diesel mechanic career. While I invested in SnapOn torque wrenches, air tools, and a few other specialty tools, the majority of my hand tools are 25yr old Craftsman, and they've survived quite well, in spite of what the $30K SnapOn box owners said... Split a few chrome sockets over the years, but often because i used them on air tools... No complaints, except that now Sears dying off makes replacement difficult now. A shame...

Getting cords back into tool cases is a developed skill. So with practice one should get better at it. I am personally not a fan of having to wrap cords around tools. So the way Adam had his router cord did trigger me. I am also not a fan of Milwaukee's litigation against other tool manufacturers either when it comes to cordless lithium ion batteries. It is straight up extortion. It is not like Milwaukee invented cordless tools or lithium ion batteries. All they did was have the audacity to patent the combination. Then use that to try to bilk money out of their competitors. It's low.

Oh my god yes! I HATE those stupid blowmolded cases. I recently got a dremel rotary kit which, of course, came in a too big, yet too small, blowmolded case. Needless to say, that tool has found a better home in a nicer box.

Adam, check out tekton tools. I love them and their cases don't suck as much as many others. I've got their complete quarter and three eighths drive sets and I'll never buy another set, if you do lose a socket they sell every single size individually for really reasonable prices as well. And their ratchets have 90 tooth mechanisms. Smooth as butter. Also most of their tools are usa made. Check em out.

Adam's socket sets and choice of socket sets shows you what adam uses his socket sets for. Not to be an ass but I and my friends and family have sheered many a Milwaukee socket in the past doing automotive work and while they're a good cheap solution they tend not to have the longevity needed of most jobs. Also the lift out trays thing WAS a thing on old craftsman socket sets though I believe is no longer a thing sadly. Either way I'm glad Adam has tools he enjoys using, I just sadly can't share that love :/

I usually like to live under the motto “buy once, cry once”. So when I was in the market for a socket set I looked around at quite a few before finding these Milwaukee sockets in a pack out. It had both the 1/4 and 3/8 in the set and I was fortunate at the time to grab it during a sale which saved me almost $100 on the set. One of the best investments I have made though. Love these sockets.

I've come to think you need about five 10mm sockets to ensure one is always around. Less than five and you won't be able to find one. More is fine too. When I worked in the auto industry, I carried my own 10mm because I didn't need to waste time trying to find out who had the one we shared. Having my own at all times was right up there with a box cutter in terms of things I used every day.

@@cammy9r I have multiple sets of sockets accumulated over many years so I do have spare 10mm, but the 10mm is actually the only socket that I have physically broken. I'm not sure what nut I was reefing on but I heard a crack found part of my 10mm on the floor. Now I know why my impact 10mm is forged and so damn heavy vs the silver cheapies I have a bunch of.

My tool collection is very modest compared to some people. But I do like the small ratchet and socket cases for the sets I use frequently. It’s nice to take the case out from the tool chest and just carry it over to whatever I’m working on in the garage or on the driveway. So the cases are useful for that purpose. I’d like to buy a couple of the same sets for one of my sons, but unfortunately they’ve changed the case design, and it is not an improvement. :-/

One thing not mentioned about the socket sets is that, if you do remove the tray to store the sockets elsewhere, the case itself is now a great multi-purpose storage box. It's an ideal size for artist supplies like paints and sketch materials or random loose things like sandpaper that don't necessarily need a more elegant storage solution.
