Interesting results!! I tested the 2690 v4, 2667 v4, and 1650 v4 with a 3060 Ti at 3440x1440 and found there was essentially no difference between the 2690 and 2667, whereas the 1650 had some bad frame pacing that brought down the average a little. I also tested in different games though. I did find that the Ryzen 5 5600 is the better CPU across the board, but it only stands out in a couple games. All in all, I had very similar results, even at a higher resolution. I was hoping you’d have the E5-2689 v4 in this roundup too; I saw that you purchased it on Black Friday. I’ve been eyeing that CPU just to see if it’s better.

@beansnrice32110 ай бұрын
Wow, what an amazing amount of work for one man. Also quite surprising results! I just can't get over how much the 2643 smoked the 1650. I guess it goes to show you how much a little extra cache matters but I think it could also just be that the 26xx series seems to have a beefier memory controller than the 16xxs. I'm also quite surprised by the 2090 but I suppose I shouldn't be. It is a fine cpu it just seemed to have odd hitching for me in unpredictable situations. I suppose the clocks core count and cache all do add up. Especially in F1 23 but even in counterstrike. Maybe it's just my crumby Dell motherboard, lol. All of that being said the poor performance of the 2687W blew me away. I didn't expect much out of it but was kind of hoping to be surprised in a good way, not underwhelmed. All in all the main metrics that I see that make or break a cpu for a game are(in no particular order); core count, clock speed, uncore speed and cache. Uncore seems to stay pretty consistent for a alot of these cpus, which I think explains the Avatar results. That or the gpu was the bottle neck. If I were to describe the 2089, I'd say it's a bit better than the 2667 where 2667 shines and is slightly better or worse than the 2090 where it shines, depending on the task. Cinebench it would be slightly worse but it's better in most games. I bet F1 would be better with the 2090 though. It's weird, the 2689 gives me a clock speed of about 3.68 most of the time but when I'm playing Cyberpunk with full raytracing, It drops down to 3.3 ghz. Thank you for this truly monumental benchmark! =D
@Miyconst10 ай бұрын

So I've given this video some more thought. the industry is heavily leaning to multi-core/multi-threaded performance moving forward. I think that for the V4 CPUs the e5 2667v4 is the most direct core-to-core competitor for the ryzen 5600. the extra cache separates it from the 1650v4, and it's clear that it helps in FPS. So, the e5 2690v4 is pretty much (not exactly, losing a slight bit of clock speed) an e5 2667v4 with an extra 8 cores sitting in idle most of the time. it doesn't deliver the same FPS as ryzen, but if you're getting even 75% of the performance most of the time in games, then you still have 8 whole cores and 16 threads waiting to be used for other things. I think we can expect these extra cores to come into play very soon. I'd love to see a revisit in a few years time.

@@nicay_14 I'd spend the extra few dollars and go for the V4. Its not alot worse but for a 10% price increase your getting 2 more cores, 4 more threads, and an extra 5MB of Cache. For the minuscule price increase the upgrade is worth it.

Are the xeons still a good deal when you consider power cost? Someone recently reviewed a Chinese motherboard which comes with a mobile i9 (Erying i9-11900H). $160 with TDP 45w. Of course, you have a better handle on overall cost of the Xeon systems.

Hi Miyconst, I have a Xeon E5 2680-V4 and looking at Intel Xeon List, it says base frequency: 2.4 Ghz and TurboBoost: 3.3Ghz, Does it mean that this xeon is susceptible to be turboboosted? I asked you this because I always thought that only Xeon V3 are possible of being turboboosted
@Miyconst4 ай бұрын
Turbo boost and Turbo boost unlock are different things. Turbo boost works with all Xeons, unlock is only possible with V3s. Unlock means that all cores together boost up to the max clock as long as TDP allows.

Hi man i know the effort and the hours spent to make this!! Anyway i have 2 questions: i got 2687w but still didn't arrive is 2697a far better choice?? Sad i thought computing is still about frequency rather than so much cores... and my second question: where is 2697 normal v4 and 2699a v4 to complete this collection once and for all hahaha?? I strongly think 2699a would kill all of them even comparable to 10700k from how heavily games are depending on threads now, what do u think?

The E5-2689 v4 is great, if you can find one at a decent price. The QS version is sometimes available on Taobao for around 320 RMB. The Ryzen 5600 is pretty much irrelevant now, after the recent price drop of the i5-12400F and 12490F in China. There's also the i5-10600KF for much less, and the i9-11900KF for a little more (their power efficiency is horrendous, but LGA 1200 boards are cheap, and nobody runs their CPU continuously at 100% anyway).
@Miyconst10 ай бұрын
Eh.. we are in a very different market situation.. here in Sweden the LGA 1200 boards are either overpriced or simply unavailable. Core i5-12400 is still about 30-40$ more expensive than R5 5600 and requires aftermarket cooler. Cheapest possible H610/B660 board is also 20-30$ more than a decent B450, so yeah, here R5 5600 and R7 5700X are very much relevant.
@manaphylv10010 ай бұрын
Really? Over here, it's the Ryzen CPUs that are overpriced, and a decent AM4 board often goes for over $100. In comparison, LGA 1200 boards are less than $50, because nobody has good CPUs for them. So, the cheapest option for me is buying an LGA 1200 board locally, and either an i5-10600KF or i9-11900KF from China.

Can you please guide if the E5-2697 v3 will hold up well without the bios modification to unlock max turbo on all cores? I am thinking to buy a Z440 with a E5 1660 v3 or 2697 v3. Comparing benchmarks, the 2697v3 clears the 1660v3 overall with a little bit of sacrifice in single-threaded performance. I am confused now since with the mod the 2697v3 would run at round 3.1 ghz on all cores. The 1660v3 should run at close to 3.5 on all cores I believe but I couldn't find concrete info. Both are almost same TDP so makes sense for the 1660 to run at max freq with 6 cores less. So stock chips what do I get 1660 v3 or 2697 v3? I don't wanna loose too much of the ST performance.
