Excellent video,I have two Avo testers,a Mk2 and a Ct160,I much prefer them over the Hickok testers I also have,you can actually measure the anode current and with the Mk2 even the screen current.Also much more sensitive for measuring leakage or shorts between the various elements.

Thank you for your comment Herman, I am still using the Avo and it really is a good unit more i use it more I like the unit.

Hi Peter. You seems to be Simpson panel meter that Avo ct160. Have i correct? Somebody replace that.

Hi Kikko, well spotted, yes its a Simpson meter. When I originally got the CT160 the meter was O/C, this is very common on the CT160's. The original meter movement is a 50uA type and almost unobtainable. I found that the SIMPSON 260 series (early version) has a meter that will fit, however it has a different sensitivity (100uA I seem to recall). Using a mod that was common in the 70-90's of adding in an OPAMP meter driver circuit which allows the exiting cct to drive the new meter all was good works very well. I copied (colour) the original scale, laminated it and fitted it to the new Simpson Meter. Calibrated the output and now it should go another 50 years now!!.

@@vk4gxc If you use Simpson 29T panel meter you dont need Opamp,only few resistor. I have that shematic. It will work Avo MK4 too.
