I'm so grateful that I get to occasionally work with brands I actually like to create sponsored videos. Their direct support helps keep this channel afloat in the ever unstable world of KZbin ad revenue. These videos will always be disclosed, of course, and I appreciate everyone's kind support for these partnerships. Royalty Soaps also participates in commission or discount affiliations, like Amazon or RewardStyle, as these opportunities become available, like Amazon and RewardStyle and while the money we make with these links isn't much, every little bit counts and once again, we really appreciate your support! These products will always be marked and disclosed with a "✦".

Makesy sells the Trinity Oil Blend and the 50/50 lye water solution on their website as well if you prefer to shop directly with them. At this time, I don't believe any other major retailer sells a full cold process soap making set up. When and if they do, I will be sure to test those as well so everyone can shop at their preferred location. Until then, there are a large variety of online vendors including Amazon, Bramble Berry, Makesy, Wholesale Supplies Plus, Nature's Garden and more! ✨

The fact that they sell the lye solution outside of the kit honestly makes me so excited! I am a casual soap maker who makes batches for myself and friends and family and mixing and measuring the lye water solution (and then waiting for it to cool to the correct temp) adds so much time. I also love that there’s no dangerous fumes to worry about when it’s pre-mixed. Might be experimenting with this in my recipe soon!

I started doing master batching of my lye water in a 50/50 stock solution. It's so much more convenient. I make 900g ( say a 2lb bottle) at a time in a gallon size mayonnaise jug that's industrial size, wide mouth and it has a handle! I can calculate for different recipes on the fly and then it automatically reheats when more distilled water is added.

@@The-Grateful-Hippiehow much does it tend to reheat? Wondering if I should mix it with my remaining distilled water for my recipe before or after measuring out and combining my oils.

@@theatregirl120 I master batch my oils as well and I use a large electric wax warmer to do so. So I flip on my oil melter, and wait till my oils are clear. My shop is in the basement so time depends on how cold it is down there. I plan my soap colors and fragrance and note everything in my formulary log while I'm melting. Then I weigh out my lye water and mix with water for each batch. I small batch but I do several different batches in a session that I weigh out all at once. I'd say the lye water heats up to about 130F so you have a little bit of time but shorter time than if you were to mix it with your full water amount from dry. Mixing from dry lye mine gets up to 220F or so even if I use ice. So I dilute my lye waters, weigh out the oils in batches and then I mix my colorants for each batch with that batches oils. By the time I'm done with that usually the temps are good to go! If not, I've earned a 10 min break ;)

@Hershewed I think most people that opt not to shop there do so because of the brands core beliefs. The founder is very evangelical Christian, and the company has faced scrutiny for a number of discriminatory acts against various groups, and made a few very questionable decisions. There are lots of articles online about all of the controversies, if you want more information.

Me too. We had an important appt for my fiance as he is legally blind and filed for disability. It was a long and stressful appt and going on 4 months with an income of only mine with 3 young children, is killing us. I don't even have the money for food or gas to get to work and even though being BLIND is 100% on the list for approving disability, they're still gonna deny him I know it so we went ahead and got a lawyer. But God knows how long this is going to take! I'm mentally and physically exhausted and hurting. My body can't take much more but I have to keep working. *HUGS*

Just a tip! NEVER use your kitchen silicone spatula to make soaps diys, even if it's just a one time thing! The fragrance oils will get absorbed into the silicone and it will NOT be useable after. Washed multiple times, did all the things the internet said, vinegar, hot water, baking soda, etc and still ended up with a veggie stir fry that tasted like perfume. Just save yourself and get a separate set of silicone/plastic tools. (Metals are safe tho, because they're not porous)😭

@@lefthandedclogger Nothing, it's soap. The claim that you can't use a spatula for soap, wash it and then use it for cooking is just ridiculous, if you only do it once or twice. Obviously if you make soap or any other products regularly, you want to have specified tools for that only, but saying that you can't use your stick blender once to try this, is just silly. I've been making soap on and off for 34 years, on the regular and selling for the past 7 years.

@@lefthandedcloggerItems used for soap making may still have sodium hydroxide, or essential oils on them, even after washing them well. Geeat video katie. I would assume the soap cost less per bar, because of the cup, mold etc. Because to buy 1 mold is around $10-15.00 and cup that size is about $5-10.00. And those are reusable items that are going to last you a very very long time. Because some people might still think it is to costly to buy the kit for that cost to end up with 10 soaps, plus the job to make the soap. In my calculatuons i got 1 soap bar for under $2.00. And i call that kit a really really super buy. I wish we had hobby lobby here in ontario, canada. Great video.

I love the "box" being a usable container :D. I really hope people are appropriately careful with the lye though, there are way too many videos out there of parents ignoring warning labels and letting their kids get hurt. Did they card you on it, sometimes that stuff must be purchased by adults?

Hi, could you recommend a different oil than coconut as my daughter is allergic to anything with coconut in it.

You can just increase the amount of olive oil or palm oil you use! I would go with increasing the olive oil since it's less expensive, but the soap will be a bit softer so it may need to cure longer. Brambleberry has a whole page on soap oils called Beginner's Guide to Common Soap Making Oils, it lists benefits of the oils, and towards the bottom it has a table showing the max percentage of each oil that can be used in a recipe. Olive oil can be up to 100% so it's an easy one to use. If you do plan on tweaking an existing recipe to substitute something else for coconut oil, I'd recommend checking it with a lye calculator to determine if you'd need to adjust the amount of lye. If you're just making it for fun you could probably skip this step if you're using olive oil specifically, since it won't make the soap harsh but would actually make it gentler. Castille soap is a very gentle soap you can make that only uses olive oil, so it might be something to look into as well.

Thank you for this information, I want to make soap but didn't have a card to order things. now I can go to the hobby lobby and get them, still need to travel 70 miles, but will call family and do dinner while there

If you go to dollar tree you can get a prepaid credit card for $1.25 plus whatever amount you want on it. Then you could order things with your prepaid card. Walmart has them too but they're like $5.

Hi Been watching all your videos and enjoying your spunk. I don't make cold-process soap. Although I have in the past I make hot process. I am still relatively new at it. Please correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't recall seeing any hot process lol If you're up to it would you consider doing at least 1 try at it?😉

Your awesome. I love that it is so basic. A lot of people use commercial.soap that has a bunch of ingredients that are not needed. I have been making cp soap for 30 years. My mom made it when I was a child, and my grandma made soap when my mom was a child. I noticed you did not check your temps of the lye water and oils. Is this even needed? I always was told they needed to be at least 5 to 10 degrees difference. I have never soaped at room temps.

Thank you! The temperatures of oils and lye being close is not always necessary. For example, if the oils and lye are both 40° F, they will have a very difficult time binding even though they are the same temperature because cold liquids do not bind well. The risks include aesthetic issues like stearic acid spots and safety issues like unincorporated lye. You *can* get "thermal shock" by incorporating oils and lye that are very different temperatures, but I have mixed 65° F lye water with 100° F oils many times over the years (using my recipe from the description box) with no issue besides batter acceleration.

Question - Isnt the 50/50 solution alreadt exactly whar is needed? Why do you add more water?
@Dandidandelion
@Dandidandelion 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the recipe, but it would seem that the kit calls for a lower lye concentration. The oils all have a specific saponification level, and the sum of those numbers adds up to the amount of lye needed to convert it all into soap. If she had mixed it exactly as-is and the soap required a lower lye concentration, the soap would have been extremely lye heavy and therefore caustic. Should they have mixed it at the needed ratio to begin with? Probably. Luckily adding more water is a lot less stressful than adding more lye crystals.

No, you shouldn't use kitchen items for making soap and then use them for food again. You should have dedicated utensils for Soap making.

You didn't test the lather like you said you were, with these, so let us know what the Makesey soap is like. I've been thinking of getting more into soap making after attending a soap class from college, but still a bit hesitant to committing to the hovby after collecting all the equipment.
