Putting a Snake Repellent to the test, will it do what it claims to do? You be the judge.
NOTE: All snakes in this test were videoed from aprox. 70 feet away, close-ups were filmed with the zoom on the video camera (DUH!!) Snakes were not chased, made to go a certain direction, provoked or influenced in any way. From standing still 70 feet away with the video camera, the snakes were not influenced by me when they started to crawl. What is shown is that once the snakes encountered the repellant they were not deterred by it as the label claims.
Watch another test of another Snake Repellent, "Ro-Pel Snake Repellent" here: • Testing another Snake ...

It may not work as a fence, but I would imagine it would keep a snake from wanting to just hang out in the area where the product was placed. For example, if you placed the product in a crawl space, a snake would probably not want to take up residence there, no?
@HakeemKaree
@HakeemKaree 4 жыл бұрын
Not saying the product works at all but this experiment is flawed but mainly because the premise behind the product is flawed. It makes the snake wanna leave the area it doesn't determine where they'll go. Meaning even if they get on your yard it'll make them more likely to come in the house than sit in the yard.

Snakes will protect your garden from slugs and rodents. I'd like more snakes in my garden. Pretty much all repellents are useless. Get rid of what's attracting snakes like shelter and food sources. A lot of them eat rodents and rodents are attracted to things like bird feeders. Also find out how the snakes are getting into your house and block any entrances.

Thanks for the video, I doubted it would work but looking for something that may work. Some people in comments I think just do not understand that many of us have a REAL REASON to try to chase away snakes! It is NOT just food snakes like, I have found copper heads sunning on my concrete pad, or cooling in the shade on concrete under a vehicle! YES, I work on cars there crawling under them often! I DO NOT want to share my work space with a venomous snake! Also many people have children that play outside, they do not want the children struck by snakes! As for snakes only going for shelter, food, etc.. the fact is snakes will go where they want when they want, even if no reason for it! At a friends house, clean yard, no snake food, etc.. etc.. at least 4 times I found a copper head in yard between house and workshop. I almost stepped on one of them in dark stepping off the porch. Only reason for those snakes to have been there really was they were going from point A to point B and that part of the yard was in there path! Some of us do still live in rural areas where there may be lots of snakes, deadly snakes! Rather than having to kill snakes, it would be great to just keep them away!
@anthonyuplandpoetwatkins5283
@anthonyuplandpoetwatkins5283 7 жыл бұрын
given that about 1-2 people per year are actually killed by accidental contact with a venomous snake, even in the country, there is very little likelihood you could be killed by a snake. pretty unlikely you will ever even get bit. (about 5 people per year die from snake bites in the USA, but usually 1-2 of them are people who handle snakes and another 1-2 are killed when they are bit while either trying to kill relocated, capture or simply handling a dead snake. I understand that crawling under a car to meet a snake is unnerving. I used to have a job climbing trees, and occasionally, i would meet a snake on my way up, but the odds of you getting bit is best reduced by both keeping down weeds, trash and food sources, as well as, in the case of contact, backing up and giving the snake some respect.

@@anthonyuplandpoetwatkins5283 You apparently think all Americans report being bit to some authority or the wildlife conservancy in their state. A quite illlogical conclusion & assertion if you think everyone reports bites of animals, let alone of snakes to authorities that log numbers. I've been bitten several times in my life by accidentally coming upon one, stepping on one accidently, etc. & I'm only 39 & not a snake handler & have never once reported any of them to any state or gov authority to log. Idk anyone who has when they've been bitten either. If you believe the purported stats based on the notion every single person that gets bit by something informs the gov so they can log it, you must not be famillar w/regular people & the avg person living in rural, middle or surburban America. While people may not die from a bite, it's still unpleasant & can lead to a deadly infection if not treated properly. To dismiss someone's fears &/or concerns of snake bite based on gov stats is not a valid or accurate argument since the stats don't reflect anywhere near a true representation b/c most do not report being bitten. While I do agree it's rare to die from one, the risk of infection of any bite is significant regardless if venomous or not. You also don't always have the privilege of backing away & being notified of the snake's presence in advance before it's already struck b/c you happened upon it w/out warning.
@anthonyuplandpoetwatkins5283
@anthonyuplandpoetwatkins5283 4 жыл бұрын
@@Ph.D.. the chances of getting an infection from a non venomous snake bite is VERY low. if one tkes the basic step of cleaning the bite. snake bites are typically less prone to infaction than nips and scratches by dogs and cats. i dont rely strictly on govt logs, but the facts remains, in the USA, less than 10,000 (out of 330,000,000) are bit by a venomous snake, of those folks less than 1 out of 1000 die. in america, your chance of dying from a snake bite in your entire lifetime is about 1 in 50 million! in the meantime, snakes are literally EVERYWHERE. the thing is, snakes avoid humas most of the time and in spite of the ignorant myths so popular in pop culture, no snake ever chases a human. snakes, even snakes like king cobras, are not aggressive. some snakes are more defensive if messed with, especially if they feel cornered.

nor is there any need for it! if you dont like snakes, get rid of their food and cover and they will go away. if you continually have snakes on your property, you have rodents or other items that are attractive to these carnivores. if oyu have tall grass, brush or piles of debris stacked around in your yard, you are creating a welcoming habitat. clean up your yard, get rid of animal feeders (snakes dont care for the bird seed and such, but they love the birds and squirrells they attract!) if you do these things, you may still, on occasion, say a snake, if you are lucky, but mostly they keep to themselcs and avoid humans. if you see one, do not interact with it. no matter whether urban or country, snakes are around us all the time but because they usually avoid humans, you wont see them often. killing the one you see will not reduce the snake population but might increase the disease bearing rodents in your home and yard.

Somewhere in Africa, there is a certain species of bird that a certain species of tree climbing cobra loves to eat. This species of bird knows it is on the cobra's menu and can only do one thing about it, build its nest in a very specific species of tree...a tree that leaks sap (after the birds drill little holes in the bark to let the sap out), a sap the cobra absolutely cannot stand to touch. I've seen 70% of a cobras body held away from the tree by the remaining 30% of the cobra (pretty much its tail was keeping ahold of the tree) because the cobra really, REALLY wanted to start raiding those specific birds nests and it really, REALLY didn't care for the feeling of that tree sap on its scales...the cobra lost its grip on the tree bark, fell to the ground and slithered away. That sap is the closest thing I've seen that can be considered a snake repellent. I have no idea if that sap would discourage all snakes or maybe just that kind of cobra and seeing just how close the cobra was holding its body away from the tree sap...it's obvious to me that physical contact between the snake and the tree sap must happen in order to discourage a snake from entering the area you don't want the snake in (in other words; if you want to use this particular tree sap to guard your house, plan on using several hundreds of gallons of it and expect to have to reapply the sap after every rain storm and every spring thaw and the snake's are done hibernating). I don't know if the sap has an odor and I don't know what (if any) kind of chemical reaction may occur if it is shellaced on wood, concrete, pavement, whatever house shingles and tiles are made out of these days. It could horribly discolor what ever surface you are painting it on...or worse. Anyways, something to think about and research if you are really interested. Who knows, maybe a synthetic form of that tree sap can be mass produced with a pleasant aroma for cheap without any negative consequences and only have to reapply a small amount once every 4-5 years for total snake free peace of mind in your house...but I doubt it.
