The airbrushes I use are a Patriot 105 and a Grex TG2. Covers all my bases. Limiting the needle with the back knob can be as detail as I want while still getting good coverage if I pull it further back. I spray a lot of acrylic inks with it and just works. I do prefer the wider opening of the 105 for ease of cleaning, but that's a small gripe when, as you say, it is a comfortable tool to use. Appreciate your videos and look forward to more!

RainX windshield washer fluid works wonders for final rinse. Really helps prolong tip dry from starting (with acrylics). Also I use it on my tip cleaning “towel”. For five years now and I haven’t had to replace not one single o ring in either of my Airbrush Masters airbrushes. But I also put glycerin in my thinner, so that may help as well.

I have the TS & TG models. My kits came the 2, 3 & 5 size needles & the fan air cap, the 3 sizes of paint cups. I also found the 50cc metal paint cups for both guns. These cups are HUGE which I use when painting my bicycles with #5 needle. If you get a #7 needle, get one of these or larger cups. Thank you for the great review. Just a couple of things, the name of the airbrush is pronounced Trit-e-um (think, Spiderman comics/movie) but don't feel bad, I've heard a lot worse,,,lol. You compare the threaded fluid nozzle to the press fit of the Badger, like anything ther are pros and cons. Like you say, using a wrench to remove the fluid nozzle is a bit inconvenient. However, the threaded style helps ensure perfect fluid nozzle and needle alignment. With that said it's appreciated that you mention the quality of the machining of parts and positive interface of the wrench to the fluid nozzle. When you bubble back I do recommend keeping the the needle cap on the airbrush. The bubble back effect won't be compromised and ensures the needle remains protected. When using the crown cap I gently pinch the crown cap between my thumb and index finger to create a similar seal and bubble back that way. Again the needle remains protected. It's great that you show the trigger stop feature. For general coverage and semi fine line work it does the job nicely. However, when doing fine line work I do recommend developing a good hand eye coordination. With a lot of paint companies going to water based acrylics these days these paints are often susceptible to tip dry issues. So with the trigger stop turned down that much, paint performance may suffer. Every so often I have to "goose" the trigger with a full shot of paint to avoid negative fine line performance with these types of paint. Doing this helps expel paint that's starting to tip dry and introduces fresh paint into the nozzle needle interface. A good way to practice fine line work is to get 3x5 note cards and try to do a fine line over the ruled lines on the card. You will get some wiggle as that is natural (we all have a heart beat) but it helps develop your hand/eye coordination. Lastly, and I see this in some of the comments, Grex does make corresponding fan caps for the .3mm, .5mm and .7mm needles. The fan caps are sold individually as well as in kit format similar to what you describe in the video. We do recommend the fan cap be matched with the appropriate size needle and fluid nozzle for optimal performance. Overall a great video and thank you for your effort. But if money were no object I would have Grex airbrushes because honestly once you get over a hundred bucks, the differences become so minuscule, it’s not really worth the extra cost.

I paint a lot of large scale, (1/12th and larger), model car bodies and was looking at this airbrush. It has a fan cap that can be added and that would allow for a larger spray area over the standard cap. I was hoping to see a spray pattern with this one. From what I could tell, it is no different than any other airbrush. Do you have plans to get, and feature, the fan cap?
@whiterose70553 жыл бұрын
I have the TG5 and the fan cap kit and use it a lot (for large scale models) . It is definitely worth the extra cash, however using the larger fan cap nozzle requires more air (flow as opposed to pressure) than some airbrush compressors can deliver, so make sure your setup can deliver the higher CFM requirements. You can get around the CFM flow requirement by buying an extra air tank and using as a reservoir to supplement it. The air compressor that I have is an 1/8 hp setup with a small tank (pretty much the same compressor sold under many brand names. ) I purchased a 10 gal tank and piped in parallel with the other tank before the air regulator so both tanks feed the air brush. When running the TG5 with fan cap I can supply the brush with enough flow to operate correctly with a bonus that now I can get a in more than 15 minutes of constant air feed to the brush under high flow conditions before the air compressor cuts in !!!! I could have bought a larger capacity air compressor but this one is so quiet; the larger ones were louder. Everything in engineering requires some sort of compromise to meet the set of circumstances at hand. Have fun painting :)

@@barbatosrex9473 I was also thinking that. Some of the ones on Amazon are good, but some are not. The advantage of the Hobby Mio one is that it stands up so it doesn't need to be worked over the fan, but in front of it. The Hobby Mio seems to be in the price range of all the others which is around $70. Issues that customers have is how well the fan works at removing dust and the motor being too loud. Maybe the more powerful ones have to be loud to provide enough suction to work right.

Will the grex Gxi5 be good for primers and glossy coats like 2K… I know you recommended badger, but there’s people on Amazon reviews saying that they seem like the ones there getting are cheap replicas of the actual badger and spray gunner is out of stock So was thinking grex maybe would that be a good choice instead
@barbatosrex94732 жыл бұрын
Yes the Grex GX5 is great for that. I love mine. And the Sparmax 0.5mm I tested tonight is great for thet too. . Here's the link to the Grex amzn.to/3jGKoo0

Hey Rex, Chris here.........terrific review of the Grex airbrush!!!!! I watched the video a few times though & I'm not sure if I noticed what PSI U were running the compressor at. I build scale model cars & I ONLY like trigger style airbrushes & I think I'm ready to move up 2 a better quality airbrush. Would U also agree that the TG3 is an appropriate size for using it on scale model cars? Would U also agree that the fan cap is the way 2 go 2 use as well???? Any info is appreciated....thanks much!!!!!!

That Grex covers so well and so quickly compared to my Procon Boy 0.3. It seems so versatile in the control of the spray pattern. A winner but a bit expensive. How do you think it compares with the Badger 105 with a 0.5 needle? Thanks for another great review but you are costing me heaps lol.
@barbatosrex94733 жыл бұрын
It's a no Brainer as far as cost goes, the Patriot is awesome at $80. This one is currently $178, a hundred dollar difference is tough for many to swallow for sure.

@@barbatosrex9473 Thanks Rex. Unfortunately the Grex here in Australia is around $275A so May have to look at the patriot down the track. Cheers

Great review, I've had my eye on a trigger type for a while now. Did that one come with a Fan Cap? Thanks again, have a great day. -David

@cjadams74342 жыл бұрын
No the grex are actually dual action..pull half way you get air...pull more you add paint...there are indents so you can really fell it nicely

Ironic that you uploaded this test video today. Just saw this brand at my local Hobby Town earlier. They offered a whole set that came with the compressor, the hose, a quick release, trigger brush with handle, 3 or maybe 4 different cups and several other items for a little over $400.00. There was also a slightly smaller bundle for around $380.00.
@barbatosrex94733 жыл бұрын
Yes, not cheap but their compressors are great too. And if you need everything you can't go wrong with that set
@geo07113 жыл бұрын
@@barbatosrex9473 Glad I know that now thanks to your videos. I'm gonna try and pick up the bundle. Your videos really have helped steer me toward some excellent products, paints, and tools since I got back into Gunpla back in July. Thanks for that!

Yeah, Badger are out of a suburb in Chicago. They machine everything on-site with a lifetime warranty. Anything goes wrong, you just pay the shipping and they'll take care of it. I absolutely love their products, and their Sotar is a dream. I do wish they had some trigger options because some of the priming sessions my fingers would love that.

I think the procon 290 is a better brush. But I find it funny you complained about a handle for a airbrush lol. All the mundane stuff you buy and that’s what you don’t like is a $20-$25 handle? I’m sure you could pass on paint for once or a kit and get a handle lol anyways good video though.
