Key learning takeaway for dealing with reflections. Use large diffusion. Place lights in the back. use a Polarizer! Got any other tips/advice? I'd love to hear it!

What lense are you using in this video? I'm new to DSLR, and only have the basic lens and a "telephoto" lens that came with the Canon Rebel T5 I picked up for a steal.

Great video! I recently bought a 12" light box which has the LEDs fixed to the top in a circular pattern. I think it will work for what I want, but the moveable LED strips in this set up look far more flexible...The other thing to consider is that with any light box, it can be seen as starting point, and things like extra back drops can easily be improvised....Have you tried using the included black back drop yet? Mine has a slight sheen to it and I am wondering if a totally Matt black finish would have been better?

You are totally right. It’s just a stepping point if you are really into product photography! The black does have a sheen that can create a glare…not easy to use. I wonder if take I a fine grit sandpaper it would reflect less. 🧐

I have a light box I haven’t used yet. I know it would kind of defeat the purpose, but wondering if I could use strobe lighting on both sides of the box, instead of the built in lighting. Would that give a more even lighting scene?

If you open up the sides, yes of course! I'd still diffuse the light though...unless you want the harder shadows. Keep in mind, one of the benefits of using a lightbox is that it will remove any external light sources from your shot. So if you are using a slow shutter and/or higher ISO and don't want mixed color temperatures (say the LEDs are 5600k but your room lights are 3200k/warm/tungsten), or don't want unnecessary reflections from overhead lights/lamps, the walls of a lightbox block all of that and allow you to have full control!

You got lucky. The one I got sent from Fositan was big enough for me to crawl into. I mean it's HUGE.

Lol...yea, after a certain size you may as well just have a dedicated studio 🤣

Have you thought of lowering the diffusion sheet to bring it further away from the lights?

That's a good suggestion! I'll give it a try next time!

I meant to post on an earlier video, but I really like the new intro. Also I have an idea for you to consider. Perhaps you could meld your niche of photography and video to what the younger generation is into, content creation and streaming. Would it be a good idea to provide tips and tricks or guides to the behind the scenes of a young aspiring KZbin/twitch creator on the dos/don't specifically with your knowledge/angle? Looking forward to those print unboxings!

Hah, thx!! Yea there's so much more that goes into a quality stream then people think!

I would have removed the glass dome, curved glass is never going to be photo friendly

Definitely! I chose it to showcase the LED reflections intentionally. Then use the diffuser to see if it worked.
