Testing a simple forge

This was a test for the refractory ceramic. I cast a forge lining out of the ceramic, insulated the outside of it with rockwool insulation and put it in a 6 inch section of stovepipe. The burner is just a garden torch.
I don't expect this configuration to be effective. But it did prove out the idea that the ceramic can be cast into a tube and appears to be pretty solid. I also found a source of calcium bi-phosphate in powder form, making the preparation of the mix for the refractory much simpler. It's actually just a supplement for horses and cattle, so readily available.
